Remember when you were 16 with your first car? You walked into AutoZone, picked up some questionable underglow for your car, some plastidip, and an exhaust your parents forced you to take off. Good times, right? Well, we've all been there in our automotive life. Even if you never admit it, we're about to go through ten mods you either did or thought about doing when you were 16! Be honest and let us know which ones you were guilty of in the comments below!

What mods were you guilty of?
Fitment Industries I bought my dad a rocket thruster exhaust when I was young and stupid lol
Fitment Industries nothing doing good so far got a good set of wheels and tires didn’t go cheap :P
I straight piped my RX-7 with flex pipe from O'Reilly's after the mufflers rusted off, drilled holes in the air filter cover for more "airflow," and had blacklight LED's illuminating the subwoofer... at least I calculated the resistor values so they'd run on 12v before the days of automotive LED replacement bulbs. 😆
I spray painted original release Advan RG II Wheels

“50% off spike lugnuts!”

I think it was 10% off
If you have sleek rims, and your paint job is on point and everything is upgraded, people can look past spike lugs.
NOPE

So glad I didn't get into modding cars until I was 20, when I actually had a good job with good money.

I once changed the head gasket on my mates ford, didn't go well, ended up with 4 extra bolts once I was finished but kept it a secret. To this day the car is still in use and the bolts are still in my tool cabinet 😂
lol been there took the whole engine apart and end up with extra bolts
😂
Markus Patients. 😂😂😂. Those bolts now hold the exhaust heat shield and engine on my pressure washer. If I did work at Honda honestly a customer’s engine would be in my pressure washer right now.
Haha ended up with four extra bolts... I got a drawer full of bolts that just seem to appear at the end of every job I did. A DRAWER FULL
@Markus Patients dude I got a shit box Honda and the number of bolts that come from the factory on that car is already small how can you lose any more and still have a car? I had to take the door card off because when I brought it it came with 2 extra bolts, a cube of foam and a broken driver window. It wouldn't open. Apparently that is because the crane lifting the window is broken, so the dealership unscrewed the window and stuck a pvc pipe in there to hold it closed. And the pipe won't let the foam cube designed to stop rattles fit anymore, so they stuck an old sweatshirt in there.
Waaaaait, what’s wrong with plasti dip? 😂😂😂 not everyone can splash out a few grand on getting a respray every time they wanna mess around with colours 😅😢
@Grant Long glad to hear that, universoty budget isn't going to exactly allow me to go pay the value of my car to get it wrapped or sprayed lol
Nothing, just gotta be sure to put enough down and like anything take care of it and it’ll be fine
Just wrap your car yourself it's fairly cheap
I have no issue with plastidip, as long as it's done right (just like everything else)
You can wrap a car for yourself for around £400 guys♥️♥️
Plasti dipped wheels, tails, trim and emblems, underglow/LEDs everywhere, cheap tint on a 2002 Trailblazer for me... still no shame. Learned from those mistakes 😂
Yooooo I also have a trailblazer, also with plastidipped wheels and trim lol.
My parents still won’t let me make any mods to my gti and I have to keep it stock😔
@@willkaufman8208 if they won't allow you to mod it, is it really your GTI?
I saw a plastidipped trailblazer SS.... except instead of the average ss being lowered (this is average to me) i saw this one lifted
My first car was a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire. Metallic pink. YUCK. I decided to spray paint the car lime green like Paul Walker's Eclipse. It turned out just how you would think spray painting a car in the hot sun in front of your parent's house would turn out. Eventually I got sick of the green and decided to go matte black, but this time with a roller and a gallon of outdoor house paint. Now this was actually pretty sweet because if I ever got a door ding in a parking lot, I would just open what was left of my gallon paint can, and paint right over the scratches. Eventually I saved up enough money to get a "professional" paint job from Maaco and the car got rear ended a week later.
Justin Buice this story 😅/😥
And then you got the bmw?
Probably for the best. I'd trust the exterior house paint more than maaco. Lol
Back in the 1970s, we had a kid in my high school paint his car with a paint roller.
It actually looked fairly good. It hid a lot of the rust and was a more even color than kids who painted their cars with cans of spray paint.
As a professional automotive spraypainter of 9 years, i cringe every time someone thinks they can paint their car with a fucking can of paint.....A paintjob costs $5000k for a fucking reason lmao.
This guy sounds like a discount Linus tech tips. Lol
Damn... at least his fingers don't constantly look like he's eaten a bag of Cheetos though. So there's that.
He does! Holyyy

Same. My g37 is done well, nothing cheap or “rice”, and my grill is plastidip...99% of black G grills are plastidip (they are impossible to wrap). But I have done everything on this list in high school or while in the Army.

Every high school has a tiny guy
We didn't cut our springs, but we did have the heavy guy sit on them & torch em.
MrNickyDalenz better than cutting
Heat and a vice on leafs was the best. Lol
Oh my God why didn't I think of this....
Did that work it was it still shit like cutting springs??
@@Frisky_FZR I think he was talking about just heating them up. When I worked at a welding shop, I had to help a young guy out from under his car because he heated his springs laying under his car....lol
glad they added under glow in the video but didn’t talk about it cause I still want to do that mod 😂
Don't be mad, underglow is coming back lmfao this guy is fuckin moron 🤣😂🤣😂 lights is the NEW hot trend right now, bikes, trucks, cars lights interior exterior, underglow
My first car was a 97 328i sedan automatic. I loathed that it was an automatic, so I took the shifter trim off and installed a boot to "hide" the fact that it was auto. Also, plasti dipped the factory 15" wheels, put fake M badges everywhere, had an autozone cone filter for the intake, installed cheap eBay headlights, blacked out half the tail lights, and installed cheap speakers that sounded terrible.
Now I'm back in a 97 328i sedan, but its manual swapped. Also installed BC coilovers, Bavsound speakers, glass headlights, and spent the rest of my money actually fixing everything and eliminating all the leaks.
I didnt even have a car when i was 16😒
Thats why i made these mistakes when i was 19😂
I was at 21 started late
Same, i got my first car right before i turned 18
Vlady Martinez same here man!
Did everything, but bad tint. Chris Fix got my back 😂
I've never done any of these because all of my vehicles have been work/family vehicles, but I'm finally getting fun cars so I watched this to learn from others' mistakes. So thanks ya'll
i am currently plastidipping my entire outback

Lol!! Damn you got me on so many of these. But #1 Cutting my springs, was a hard learned lesson. Lol. Thanks man, you made me laugh at my stupidity in my younger years.
these videos are awesome. 1. I am guilty of all of these but the lambo doors, never got into that one. 2. I just recently got back into the car community and I learned very fast, what was cool 10 years ago is BY NO MEANS cool today. i watched one of your videos on this exact topic, I felt a little attacked the whole video, woke up the next morning and ripped off the banner I put on the windshield 2 weeks prior, the tail light tint and the back window stickers. it was a rough day. my girl got a kick out of it tho. hahaha
"Plastidip just rubs or scrapes off" That's the point. It's a cheap as dirt way to change colors/looks rapidly on your car.
Yeah. That's bogus fear mongering anyways. I plastidipped my rims and it lasted for years until I wanted to give back to the factory look.
and looks like dog shit combined with vomit and maybe a little clitty litter thrown in
I used it to just cover the ugly chrome on my front grill.....I don't regret it
@@trillrifaxegrindor4411 sounds like someone done fucked up their dip job by not following instructions. GG
A 400-800$ kit, isn't cheap as dirt.
I’m 21 and I still use underglow. I am not a ricer, I don’t have any crazy body kits or wings or anything stupid like that, I just really like underglow.
Christian me too man 😂💪🏼
Swear...me too😂
wait but... why
No complaints here. I just installed underglow a few days ago and I love it and always will.
i'm coming up on 35 and have an underglow kit awaiting install (when it's not 40 degrees with 20 mile an hour winds), I'm gonna wire it so it functions with the interior lighting, so when I unarm the alarm it comes on and lights the ground around the car (it's often dark where I park as there aren't street lights on my street or anywhere else other then the stores in town), the underglow I don't like is when a jacked up truck puts lights in the wheel wells to light up the tires, that shit just looks stupid to me, you should only see the glow of the lights and not the light source.
I really haven't done any cheap or bad mods. I bought expensive stuff but it was well worth. The best decision was a $2000 exhaust system. It sounds incredible...
I am still young and am watchig this video to learn. Thabk you so much for this video, I just hope your car can forgive you and appreciate how far you've come since then
Cut the exhaust off my Lexus SC300 because LOUD. Tried to get my inspection sticker and the dude looked at me like I was the dumbest person on Earth (deserved).

I hate when I hear an exhaust note n turn around only to see said car cruising at 5mph smh
LOL, same, bet when this car is going 55 on a highway it sounds like it's going to fucking pop.
Drone is the number 1 cause of annoyance to drivers worldwide.
I cant understand the appeal of having a loud AF exhaust setups.
I personally love the deep growl of a V8 but not when it's trying to kill my ears jfc
SArtisto1 yup exactly bro.

The cheap filter thing was a fail I experienced. Plasti dip worked great for me however. I plasti dipped my old focus back in 2014 and the guy I sold it to still has it on there and it looks as good as the day I did it. It's just flat black, but If you do it right, you can power wash it and keep it looking fresh for as long as you want.
Lol what I did was cut springs on a 2004 Fiat Pailo ..yoh the car was bumping all the way......
Am a fan from South Africa bro keep up with the good contact
You forgot putting house speakers in the trunk and calling it a system
I can smell those burning wires now. 😂
lol wow that is bad? For low wattage bass I use cheap house woofers for their efficiency but I give them a custom box.
Good idea...
Those were the good days.
I put a power inverter and connected my old Kenwood home theater system connected to the door speakers and in the trunk the home speakers! It was so loud! hahahahahahaha
OMG those days!
heh, not a single mention of having 6 15 inch subs in a ford escort. guess i am not on the list.

Haha me too!!
Jesus dude, I am in my 50's and went to a vocational school for automechanics. I think I could write a book on the stupid stuff I did lol. When I grew up we still had carbs, most cars didn't have fuel injection yet. And a lot of us had muscle cars from the 60's and 70's. A big thing was putting too large of a carb for the camshaft. Or using adapter plates to put a 4 barrel on a 2 barrel manifold and not changing anything in the engine. Or worse yet buying a performance manifold and carb but not changing the cam or anything else to support it. Or putting the wrong cam or too large of a cam in your engine and making it useless for daily driving or using the wrong headers for the application. I also pulled the whole exhaust off my 72 buick and put in dual straight pipes. Killed my torque and actually made the car slower lol. I put a hood scoop on my car and had it painted. It ended up cracking and looking like crap. It also made my engine really dirty and took longer to warm up. Didn't help the performance at all either. Didn't make it worse really, but it didn't help much. I put hood pins on my car and removed the OEM hood latch system. My dad told me not to, I did it anyway. Someone pulled the clips off while I was in a store and I didn't know it. Yep, my hood flew up at 40 mile an hour while I was driving home and destroyed it. On the upside it got rid of my hood scoop lmao.
With newer cars I fell for the cold air intake thing and wasted my money on that. Didn't help the performance any but made it sound like a vacuum cleaner or something. Muffler deletes, cat deletes and cheap performance mufflers that made my v-6 or 4 cylinder sound like a swarm of angry bees. And again made the car perform worse. Car companies actually spend a lot of money to design an exhaust that is quiet and performs well. Then we mess it all up thinking we can do better than a team of engineers. 9 times out of ten we don't.
I have also seen people try to do things right, but still mess it up simply because they chose the wrong parts. Like using a camshaft and headers designed for circle track use. They are designed to make horse power at wide open throttle at high rpms. They are horrible for street driving and will actually make your slower off the line. I always tell people to go with the street/strip version of something and not the "race" version. It will work much better for daily driving. With muscle cars we always said build for torque, not horsepower. That is the power you can feel when driving around. Unless you are running really low gears, but that sucks for daily driving too. I built a car for the drag strip once and tried to drive it daily. It was fast, but you couldn't drive it in the rain without sliding all over, it was extremely loud and hot and it got 6 freaking miles to the gallon lol. And my top speed was 130 mph. It would do it in like 11 seconds but that was as fast as it would go without blowing it up. And I got beat on the highway by a ford toraus sho! That was humbling let me tell you.
I enjoyed reading this way too much! Funny to see how kids will be kids no matter the era we grew up in.
My Chevelle was one that a group of dealers in Fla ordered. 402, Th400 with 4.88s, delete everything, no carpets, armrests, nothing! Fucking nightmare daily driver, but I LOVED that car!
Aye them wish/Amazon neon interior lights go hard tho 😂😂

Rookie, you don't even need the muffler for inspection when you're mates with the guy inspecting it ;)
Mingus OG my first car was a wrx that we rebuilt the motor and it needed all new o2 sensors so it had 3 codes and one for a tumbler valve and it was too expensive to actually fix so we went to my dads friend and he did that for us it was great
Underglow. Because the fast and the furious was too good
Surprised he didn't go over that.
Idk, I still think hidden undercar lights can look good. You just have to hide the bulbs.
man where I live i see so many cars with completely exposed led "underglow" . civics and corollas from space!
High Thomas actually I like underglow, I put it on my motorcycle. It’s easier to tell who your friends are. When we used to go out at night it was easier to tell where everyone was in front of you or behind you quicker.
It really just has to be done right. The car has to already look like it should be hovering... also hide the bulbs. Back in 1997, my car had blue neon bulbs.. 4 of them. I kept them from breaking (and hid the bulbs) by mounting them in u-channel (like industrial shelves are made of) ... sorry about the driveway stains... Oh God, the forgotten, repressed teenage memories that you just revived... "Whatever no-name exhaust" "Fake Intake" "K....&...N." Guilty on all counts.
17 year old me thought my Camry was so classy with the Autozone green LED dust covers. Three of which didn't work.
Also, the $50 loud muffler didn't quite fit, so I used zip ties so it only sagged a little bit.
Needless to say, my girlfriend's parents were very impressed with her choice of boyfriend.
I never had problem with my cold-air intake going in my car and it worked great, but then again I also took my bumper off to put it where it needed to go.

Uhh I almost forgot what the previous owner did!
-Removed air filter box and the heatshield for it, replaced with a cone filter which is now slightly melted because of the lack of shielding: it's a really well made hot air intake.
-"Upgraded" the front position lights to LED, and only the positioning bulbs.
-Filled LITERALLY half the trunk with a ported box that fits two 10" units (tbh, it's actually quite nice).
-Plasti dipped the rims, and now it's all cracked: my friends call them spiderman rims.
-Removed a vacuumline to the DV so it'd make a cool turbo stutter.
-Straight piped the resonator from 2" pipe, to 3", back to 2", presumably made by a "welder". After looking at it from under a lift, I'm pretty sure the welder was blind and or had no hands.
Can't wait to get my full Aero kit for my LS430. Not going to lie 600 for the cheap one sounded alot better than the 2500 I spent haha.
Cheap open air intake that was blue to contrast my red Honda fit...
The plastic felt cheaper than the water bottles they give out at conventions
Drink every time he says “at the end of the day”
V Bone I don’t want to die
Ded from alcohol poisoning within 5 minutes
Got aftermarket Spyder Headlights to replace the yellow fogging OEM ones on my 03 Vw Beetle Turbo S
I plasti dipped my wheels just to see if I like black rims on my car🤣.
And I put the wing badge on my car but it is made for my car
You forgot blue led interior lighting
not to mention cheap underglow and just cutting exhaust instead to buying any part of it
Is red led interior lighting better?
Josh EJ8 red is so bad I didn’t think I had to mention it .
@@i_read_bad_reviews Lol. What about Soft white?
Nah thats fine, i just prefer blue over this yellow white ish stock lights
I couldn't afford most of this stuff when I was 16.
Actually I still cant 15 years later.....
Im 18 I never did that when 17 or 16 and I'll never bc of some amazing tutorial channels like this one...actually only this one😅
My 2011 Nissan Murano went from mom rig, to lowered on coils, “custom” greddy exhaust, ram air intake with jet flow maf, and yes… I plasti dipped roof and grill
1st mistake.
Does not own the car itself.
Ruuuuh😂🤣
How?
@@bentzwerg8919 I actually know a guy who has a lease for a Subaru and he's done a bunch of cosmetics. Has no intention of buying it out..
@@RaisedTalent12 oh ok
Ouuuuuchhh
Thanks for opening some old wounds for us man.
Your welcome 😁✅
never forget the 99 sentra i had when i was 17 and i bought the $40 amazon special lowering springs, they were like a 1/4 the size of the stock ones and disassembling the strut and spring in the driveway with some buddies from high school watching the top hats luanch across the road as we just impacted them off. after all said and done it did look good sitting on the street but lord it was the bounciest ride id ever been in. on top of that found some cheap 2 in wheel spacers i put on the stock wheels for the stance. end of the day the ball joins were ruined. the stock struts were ruined. and then i put red led strips under the seats that i wired the power cable up to the subs i had to make them flash to the bass. after it was all said and done i was under the car with a hacksaw taking the muffler off.
dont do it kids. just wait til you save enough up to put the nice parts on.
Gotta love how the previous owner of my car did pretty much all of these to my car 😩😩
I heated up the springs on a 1973 240Z to drop one coil. That car handled amazingly well after that. On my first car in high school in the early 80s (yeah im old) they came out with spray tint. Yes, window tint in a spray paint can. My best friend and I tried it on our cars and it was a disaster. Those were the days!
bronze colored streaks all down my interior.......damn that stuff
Oh man I can’t believe that stuff isn’t around in an improved fashion, I’d love to prep and spray some tint.
They ripped into plasti dip here in this video but the 2020 product is waaay better than it was in 2008. I could see someone giving this another try.
@@prestobizmal yea plasti dip now isn’t bad is just a lot of work
I just plastidipped all the chrome pieces on my car just because i don't like chrome.
What's so hard about normal paint and primer?
@@Misfit1336 commitment
Brian Abongan same
@Matt Morawski I don't have the skill to use paint while plastidip you can just peel it off.
@@Misfit1336 because cars nowadays don't have proper chrome and once you paint it you can't get it back to the original fake chrome, my cars previous owner did a shit paint job on the chrome trims on windows then plastidipped afterwards but still didn't do that thick enough to peel so once I eventually got it all off the chrome is now faded, no amount of chrome polish will fix it
2004, I had a 1997 Ford Contour SE. Mesh grille from auto zone, debadged it only to find out the fenders had holes below the badges so I installed clear marker lights from Autozone to cover the holes. I also had the fake intake from, you guessed it, autozone, oh and some random muffler I won in a raffle at a car show that I had my local exhaust shop install. Topped it all of with a set of Chrome Focal F5 wheels, yeah I was killing it
I'm 17, I admit I do have a jerry rigged cheap intake, BUT IT WORKS (and Im going to buy a k&n soon) I have Manzo lowering springs, offbrand but they work and I havent had any problems yet. I tinted my windows with precut tints but they aren't that bad. and I just recently bought a set of Enkei J10s from you guys.
I bought fog lights that I installed but never installed the wiring
Raphael aNGELES I’m guilty of this lol
Same 😔
Lmao 🤣
Me too. I had many accessories that I never bothered to wire up.
Straight up ready to do this to a base 2018 Kia Forte I just bought. The more I look at them, the more the plastic covers look hideous in there lol.
When was "back in the day" for you? 2012?
I was 16 in 2001 think hes younger fr
Dirt Merchant it would be 2006
probably 2018
Weird to think 2012 was 7 years ago
2002 for me, it was just a marvelous time... i just turned 16.... fast and the furious was well on its way with coming out with a sequel the next year.
I had a BMW e46 with a 2.2 straight six. Did the plasti dip to the rims thing...sold them 2 months after. It was also straight piped from the cats all the way back...Mistakes were made...
