Whenever you use spraypaint (or spray texture for drywall) its best to put hot water in a bucket and let the cans soak for a few minutes then shake them, then soak them to get the paint warmed up throughout. You get a better mix, your nozzles spit less, and since the paint drying is an exothermic reaction hot paint dries faster/harder. I learned this trick from an absolute virtuoso with a rattle can that guy layed down Krylon better than most people can use an actual paint gun.

Too funny I just got all the parts in to finish my M4A1 BLOCK II-ish and I'm painting this weekend . I'm doing Forrest Green , ODG and Patriot Brown .
I picked up Centurion C4 12" Quad , BCM SOPMOD MOD 1 Stock , Arisaka 18350 Light , Centurion AST Trigger , Sprongco Red Spring , Colt H2 Buffer and Sig Romeo4T . I bought the Colt M4A1 Block 1 Upper in 2008 . Apparently it fell off back of truck near Anniston Alabama lol . I also have couple Colt M4A1 LE Lowers that dont have the ridiculous high shelf . So they can be used with GI or DIAS . I've been waiting to do Block II-ish for a long time . I have way too many Block 1s and Mod 0s . If I can track down used TA01NSN at good price I'll probably pick one up . I'm building this as back up rig . I've been using Colt M4A1 Block 1 as my back up rig for 10 years so it's about time I upgrade ..

    • @ahole5407
      @ahole5407 Před rokem

It's not about looking "cool" it's about what is effective. Macro and micro patterns break things up at different distances. The shading goes with the work environment and the light (think of how nature put fur on animals, dark on top light on bottom, stripes spots and colors for their environment.)
But hay, if your just going for the Instafag look, by all means. 😂

I see some really whacky camo. Don't do stripes like a sea snake. That's like a railroad crossing sign kind of. People really pick up on those patterns.
Rule 1, break up the outline so it's hard to see the edges. So corners of magazines, mag wells, corners of handguards and lights so they never look square or like shapes we associate with unnatural things.
Israeli helmets make their heads look like rocks instead of the helmet that makes everyone go look! A helmet! I use lines for that.
High contrast drastic, larger color changes for longer distance disguise because a bunch of intricate woodland type just looks like a brown gun from a distance in anything but actual woods. Like the pictures of a face they make with lots of little pictures of other faces. Like pixels. Black and white stripes just look grey from far enough away. That. So do some intricate stuff but also make it so there's big darker or lighter stripes or edge break up.
Lighter on bottom and darker on top like animals. It's for confusion as to what's the top or, is that the top of something? Can't tell ... That.
Start lighter base coat to end up darker, start with darker colors and add lighter to end up overall lighter. The overspray keeps adding up. Your coyote or tan will be a darker greyish green kind of color by the time you're done. Paint it with actually still wet 91% rubbing alcohol all over it as you go and watch what happens. Makes it look airbrushed and blends all the paints together to look like a photo. Takes a little practice and Krylon is so much better than Rust-Oleum on every level from application ease, to final look to actually drying and setting up like it's supposed to. If you like getting paint rubbed off all over your hands every time you touch your gun Rust-Oleum is for you. If not get the Krylon only. The final job will look 10x more professional with less effort. That said, Rust-Oleum high heat paint is awesome. I mean you need to try it. Leaves a hard, flat black finish that looks like something a tactical scope might be coated with. Cool. It's a psychology. Not just random blobs and streaks. Always hit the corners. And the front view. That's pretty important and missed a lot. 😂 cover your light. I'm out.

@@loneelement if you look up "galactic puke Ibanez" you'll probable see guitars that have an interesting paint schemes. It's several layers of different alternating colors then you remove it in spots like feathering a repair. I do that with the cans to get really intricate little designs that are really natural looking. After they're all applied I get the handy 91% alcohol and just kind of clean it until cool parts start showing.

Only prep I do is throw in on the dirt and start spraying. Mask off what you don't want paint on. The oils that are around the fire control will make the paint lift and come off and any carbon deposits will also make the paint come off easier, if dirt get on it while painting, good, it adds to what I'm trying to achieve.. But this isn't about having a safe queen. It all wears off when you USE it. Once it wears down too much hit it again with the cans. Hell I have a hard enough time keeping the black anodizing on the guns I don't have painted 😂
Don't be one of "those" people who paints their tools just because they think it looks pretty and never use them because they are afraid of it getting scratched, or worse... Breaking a nail 🤣

@@loneelement Awesome. Some former military/police guys have some kind of superiority complex and think they should be the only ones allowed to own specific weapons and body armor, nods etc. The 2nd amendment was designed to prevent government tyranny which means fighting the government (military/police that are loyal to the woke mob). I appreciate you bro.

Thanks for sharing the past GWOT into the future! Great STRING AND GRASS TECHNIQUE!!! Don't forget to view your rifle in white light, then IR/NODs, and finally Thermals to see if you stick out in any imaging situation. (Suppressor cover) What looks great in visible light, may be a dead giveaway, as you touched on, under other illumination! You never know who is watching. This applies to ALL gear now!!! Just buy cheaper black and paint! Expect to be full spectrum imaged!!! Fight in the shade! As a 26 yr bro to another:🫡

Whatchu talkin bout saying black is easier to detect under IR? I use a sensor that uses IR regularly and would say that’s not true. I would 100% agree that black draws my heat which would pop up better under a IR sensor but the color doesn’t show up any better then any other color.

Think he was talking about IR light reflection when using NOGs. Some blacks look bright white under night vision. Could always tell who has a black watch cap under their helmets (at night using NV).

@@tcr2237 my bad yo I retract my statement. I use IR in Avaition and all we see is heat and I’ve actually had someone ask me what color that technical was when it was 3am in the middle of nowhere and we all had a good laugh at the guy

Ah I believe you are talking about thermal and technically you're correct. Night Vision is technically called I2 (I squared) and yes black has the highest reflection of any other color on a gen 3/3+ tube.

Unless you are going for a worn/distressed look. Spray paint is not good. Don’t be lazy and cerakote.

I like cerakote and hydrodipping and have rifles in all three, Spray paint is fine. It works if applied properly is field expedient and can be tailored to your local environment.
