I also find it odd how Ana Torres is a Republican, yet makes no mention of President Trump throughout the entire series, never mentions Mexican families being separated and put in cages at the U.S.-Mexico border, and never mentions January 6th. "Black-ish" was always up on current events, yet "Grown-ish" feels like it lives in its own safe bubble, even though it's supposed to be in the same universe as its spin-off show.

That’s true, most college students don’t usually wear designer clothes or even flesh out in style. They wear lazy day everyday clothes from hoodies, sweatpants, jeans, sneakers or anything that’s loose. Grown is his romanticizing the idea of college being relationship oriented or social issues, without understanding the real idea of college. It’s nothing about relationships or anything, people go through actual struggles : from financial aid, classes, homework, stress, housing cost, activities that are college oriented, international students and yet, they put up only romantic storylines about characters but they never focus on actual college things.

The show is a sitcom/comedy, not a drama, and while you have some points from you opinion mind, as far as which characters you like & how they act, which some I do and don't agree on. Things like where they live and how they pay, there parents obviously. It's been established they come from money, or have scholarships. They go to Cal U. Every sitcom has a group of charactets being friends for years, sometimes decades. Why it keep getting renewed, because it's on freeform, a small network, and i almost guarantee it's 1 of the most watched shows on that small network.

I hate this show so much man. Nearly everyone in the cast is horrible and so petty, I really don't feel any sympathy for the problems they have especially when they are self inflicted. And it tries to talk about "real issue" but the dialogue and characters are so fake that I can never take them seriously.
Like they wear the freshest outfits and lives in the dopest dorms I'ver ever seen in my life. So when they have an episode about money problems, I'm calling CAP because there is no way they can dress like that everyday and have to worry about money, it honestly feels patronizing.
And the idea of this being a collage experience is so fake. I don't even see these people go to class in the most recent seasons. You can't tell me they talked realistic social issues with this show when they don't even go to school any more or do homework.
And as you said, this show has ZERO consequences. You don't just drop out of school, get a job, leave that job and roll right back into school easy peasy. At the very least, Zoey would have to catch up on a semester of work but you already know the show is going to ignore that and just pick up where Zoey left off. They can't just have characters study and earn their degrees properly, not when there's so much drama in their social lives we need to waste our time on.
This show is just drama, after drama with no consequences. Because you can't waste time with consequences when you need to move on the the next big scandal! Can't waste time on character development either because that would actually reduce drama if they character became better people!
Listen, this video is a masterpiece because it's calling out a show that needs to be called on. I have no idea how a show this bad is popular. Like have you see the Grown-ish youtube video comments? They talk about the show like it's actually good social commentary. But now I know, this show appeals to twitter where they don't actually care about realism or logic, they just care around trendy one-liners and faux activism. The people who like this show are living inside a bubble, none of them can see how bad it is because they are too busy complementing each other. But producers keep seeing praise on twitter and that things them an inflated sense of the show's quality (kind of like that socio-narcissism you were talking about).
But you, you can see the truth and have the guts to actually talk about it. Thanks for saying what I've been thinking for the last 3 years. Seriously, fantastic job with this video.

I agree that zoey is incredibly annoying and she is not the only one. It’s also very unrealistic that everyone on the show looks like a super model and wears the most expensive brands except for Vivek’s “engineering friends” and the Jewish guys in the corner (which is kinda anti Semitic). Still I enjoy watching the show because it’s interesting for me to see how other people see our generation. Also, it is undeniable that the fashion on the show is legendary.

I disagree with the "white" names because black people aren't a monolith, and in my tiny piece of the world, their names are and sound normal.
I understand your criticism very well, please don't get me wrong, but it makes clear why I'm having problems with the call for representation and the (un)willingness to accept something that doesn't exactly represents us all but still includes and/or focus on us. Foremost and all, Grown-ish (and Black-ish) is an over-the-top comedy that does bring up serious matters to remind viewers of those topics. They do not really provide a solution, as it shouldn't really have to, since that choice is up to us to discuss with our own family and friends during or after watching the show.
Ever since TV became a thing during the time our grandparents and older family members were kids and teens, nearly all TV-shows have followed the same story-telling pattern, so in that light Grown-ish fits right in. Compare it with I Love Lucy or The Golden Girls, and you'll start seeing what I'm trying to say.
It doesn't have to be realistic since it's basically only here to entertain us, but this show does represents the time period we're living in right now. It is colorful, expressive, dramatic, funny and "woke AF" and yet so painfully rushed and empty, even meaningless at (too many?) times.
You talked about the flaws of Zoey and her socio-narcissism. Well, guess what? That appears to be the norm nowadays, even in our own circle. Hell, even we tend to act that way sometimes, unintentionally for many, intentionally for some. Let's keep it real for a moment or two here. We all like to voice our opinion/truth like a gospel sometimes, genuinely believing that our truth is The Truth for all and it is our God-given duty to teach our followers (aka our friends) The Truth. There is nothing wrong with that, but we have to be more careful and try not to forget that we ALL live and react from our own little bubble of Ego. And sometimes it is also okay to just be quiet because there is also truth in silence. But mostly I agree with the chronic lack of character arcs. As we live our lives ,we learn. You may not always immediately see and feel the changes our mind and soul undergo, but we do learn from experience every single moment of every day. The reason why it seems that some people do not change is because they are afraid to accept that change in themselves out of fear but that is a whole other topic for another day.
Yet this is indeed the biggest mistake made with Grown-ish. Zoey isn't showing any sign of growth. The entire show should be called Stationary-ish, or Stale-mate-ish, or Pause-it. You get what I'm saying, lol.
They are college students, and I expected to see them learn something mindblowing at least once per month that would expand their views and make them spiritually grow, because of everything that is being taught to them by their professors, friends, and just life itself as they are away from home for the first time, and learning to take care of themselves while on their path to full adulthood.
I've learned from an early age on that nitpicking certain things like TV-shows can take away our joy of watching and relaxing, and that is something that we should be careful of. Life is shite as it is and that alone makes it strangely perfect because every day is another opportunity for us to keep doing our best, to learn and to change, and to be our true selves. We all try our best to survive, live, and thrive under these circumstances while also trying to find love and joy while so many others across the globe try to entertain us and make us momentarily forget our own sorrow, sadness, and trouble.
And that is the main reason why I don't dislike Grown-ish and other shows and movies: it makes me laugh out loud at times, it makes me roll my eyes, and at the end of the day it has made me forget reality for a few delightful minutes, and that is all to it. It isn't me, it doesn't represent me and the world I'm living it, and that is okay. Be the change you want to see in your own world, and I have to say, you are already doing an excellent job!!! I applaud you and your intelligence, insight, and passion, and I hope you will continue doing this in one form or the other. I am glad, and feeling very honored and blessed to have found your channel today. Thank you again for you insight and for teaching me something from your perspective

I actually just finished watching this episode and I agree with damn near everything said. But I do believe the highlight of this show at least for me was jazz and Doug surprisingly. U might night after but I thought there relationship was really beautiful. There litte arc in season 3 kept me invested to finish the series cause I hoped they'd get back together. They had some issues but I don't feel like it's anything that couldn't have been worked out especially with their chemistry. As individual characters doug to me was one the best on the show mostly cause of his comedic relief and personal relatability being a fellow New Yorker. But also cause I feel like him and jazzs relationship was one the only few good/semi accurate potentials if an actual relationship. Compared to others at least . Especially when it comes to happy black couples but unfortunately God knows we can never have a conventional happy black couple on TV. But besides those very few things that I liked as well as the few good things you mentioned the shows a pretty big piece of garbage especially Zoey .

I love your review. Grown-ish is lazy writing and lazy acting. Joey Johnson was the worst. Yes, Luca was the best with Sky. I started watching the series yesterday and skipped through the trainwreck. By season 2 l was so frustrated by the over written, repetitive and very very very annoying. Breaking the third wall was making the character whinny and l skipped everything time she's over explaining. This series was super basic with flashy clothes.
Best couple was Ana and Aaron. Period. Luca and Jillian was next. Jazz and Doug were cool as well. They had better chemistry and stronger relationship.
This was the most unrealistic series ever. The night teacher was funny. Vavet foots the bills from drug dealing. This show is draining draining.
Junior's snip off seasons, yeah, no, no, NO!

I see everything you are saying about the show that is so true but I think main characters dont always have to be good, perfect and the people that develop the most..We have seen enough of such shows..We actually dont talk about the people like Zoey who are around us everyday that call themselves friends cause if we are truly honest we have such people in our lives and no one points them out..We always want to just see unrealistic perfect peole on television forgetting that a percentage of our friends are selfish too but we tend to just brush it off until it gets too much to handle...I feel grownish is from a different view point which might not just be so popular but truth be told it is still around us everyday we just turn to ignore.

On top of all what u said i thought the show was also quite sexist even tho it tried so hard to be woke. Like besides Nomi all female characters are these stereotypical girls obsessed with boys, fashion and doing shit like cyber stalking and explaining to guys "how girls work" and everytime i think "that is absolutly not how girls work... maybe confused 14yo girls high on hormones but def not early 20s woman...". Then they hyperfocus a whole episode on bullshit problems like "oh no i cant use social media much during my internship whatever will i do" and shove a 5min discussion about something actually important in there to seem woke. Zoe especially is very irretating... not only is she an egomaniac she is entitled af which would be fine if she would check herself and grow! But she never does! Like nomi for example when she dumps that super nice bi boy(dave? daven? darren?) because hes bi even tho she herself is by because of stupid double standards, which is shitty, but she regocnises that being bullshit and apologizes for it! She calls herself a hypocrite which she is! thats how you write shitty behavior correctly!
For zoe its either everyone elses fault and they need to apologize or she makes a huge deal out of her own mistake and causes so much drama that people take pity on her and be like "its not THAT bad were cool its okay" like she lowkey guilttrips people into forgiving her... disgusting.
And i think most of the outfits chosen for especially zoe, but nearly every main cast girl are hideous but thats my subjective opinion.
