    This one is their best yet.

    On other places people noted that this pen looks similar to Namiki Emperor. In my opinion it is significantly better looking pen than the Emperor as it has better proportions (it's shorter), it has an elegant cap band and the translucent models are simply gorgeous.

    • @rds4629
      @rds4629 Před 10 měsíci +1

      the emperor looks ridiculous to be honest and I like big pens. I feel the MB149 / pilot 823 / opus bela are ideal sizes for my hand. The Dadao reminds me more of the 149. Ideally, i'd like to be able to switch out a flex or italic nib to the Dadao.

      I would love to be able to find an italic nib for that pen.

    Very hard to argue! The problem now is that I have a few X159s that I won't use anymore because this pen is better in every way that I can think of...

    I agree! I have a clear demonstrator Jinhao 9019 with an EF nib and it has quickly become a favorite. I never expected such a big pen to be so comfortable in my hand; my fingers are long but my palm width is average. But it has made holding my other pens feel cramped until I readjust. The nib is very smooth and juicy and the section is smooth and comfortable. I have loaded it with a challenging ink, Platinum Carbon Black, and it starts immediately every time and never skips. The EF nib is more like Western-sized EF, approaching an F, not like the much finer EF of Japanese pens.
    That huge new converter is indeed revolutionary. A CZcams pen enthusiast who is an engineer (Doodlebud) measured its volume by weighing it before and after inking and reported a usable ink capacity of at least 1.6 ml. That compares with some piston fillers! The converter screws in snugly - another improvement IMO - and is held immovably at the other end of the barrel by internal struts rising from the sides. So no rattling. The converter does not disassemble, but I expect it to become available separately like the #8 nibs and the smaller x159-style Jinhao converter. Then, if issues ever were to arise, a new converter could fix them more easily than with repairs of a piston- or vacuum-filled pen.
    There must be some quality control with the nib because I found a trace of blue ink on it as I was washing out the pen prior to its first use. Amazing with such an inexpensive pen.
    I’m looking forward to seeing where Jinhao goes from here with that nib and converter. I also hope third parties start making compatible flex nibs in this size as well as other nib widths, stubs, and other variants. I would love to see cursive italics and obliques some day. That may never happen, but surely there will be other colors and new models.

    • @fountainpentherapy
      @fountainpentherapy  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Great comments. The Jinhao No 8 nib is starting to be used by other pen makers. I believe I saw them in a few Indian pens. The nibs all have a wider line than other EF, F or M nibs. They certainly are much wider than Japanese styled nibs. As to cursive and stubs, so far the only one I saw was in the Majohn P36- a nice smooth 1.1 stub. But I can't get it to fit with any other pen.

    Nice pen. I just got mine. FYI... The TWSBI Swipe also has a large converter. It isn't a screw in converter but it has a 1.65ml capacity and has an international standard opening. It's just too wide for most other pens.

    It looks like a fabulous pen. When I got into the fountain pen "world", I was very reluctant to try any of the chinese knockoff brands. But heard so much positive buzz about the X159 that I had to try one, and it is a good one, if not the same quality as a $100 Sailor. Stepping it up another notch and ordered a 9019 after watching 3 of these positive reviews last night. It's so nice that you can get these so cheaply and not be total trash! Wrist watches have the same chinese copybrand thing, but when you buy a $30 china rolex clone "Luxury gentleman watch clock" you don't expect a good watch, just something that vaguely looks like a Rolex from a distance (and maybe impress someone who has no idea). But these pens seem to be something else.
    Jinhao seems to be breaking out of the pure clone market and into their own identity, doing proper research and improvements with each new pen they release. Folks were complaining about micro cracks around the pin of the 159's, so they reinforced the top of the pen with vertical fins. Very impressive, listening to feedback and issuing a direct answer to it. Same thing with the extra large converter, why have a tiny converter in a massive pen like this? Let's make an extra large one for the next pen! I will browse around you channel later, heading to work now.

    I don't need any more chinese pens, but I hear too many good things about this one. 😄 And Jinhao has always impressed me, even if most of my 991s and 992s have crumbled to dust.
    I'm gonna see how that big feed handles a zebra G nib for drawing. I don't doubt that the big converter is going to handle a lot of nanopigment ink.

    Hello. Just found your channel (thanks CZcams). You have a new subscriber! I haven't tried (or bought) a 9019 yet but I like your passion for the pen. As others have said this isn't the first oversize converter. The TWSBI Swipe, Noodlers pens such as the Ahab and many vintage pens use converters that are larger than the international standard. Personally I would like to see Jinhao make a piston filler pen but so far they haven't. I was impressed at how the Jinhao performed in your writing sample. A nice juicy wet nib!

Decisions, decisions!
