      Yes, they need to include ported manifolds in these tests (and show that all are using the same tune). That is one thing VMP are known for...maybe they don't produce the gains they are claiming.

      Yeah the gen 1 head just cant flow enough to make good high rpm power with the cobrajet.
      It will need cams and some porting

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 Před 2 lety

      @@3star2nr it's mostly the cams. Sure it'll see gains porting but it'll see alot more gains from cams with a cj the cams are what's holding the power back the most in gen 1 cars when running a good manifold like a cj. A cj and good set of cams can see right near 500 to the tires on a stock gen 1 head on e85 through a manual that isn't shabby at all. A gen 2 might see 515 or so with a similar setup so honestly it isn't THAT much different. There is gains there but if you're choosing one or the other between ported heads or cams cams give you by far the most gain on a cj gen 1. 18 manifold prob works better on a stock cammed car cj for a cammed car. The cams are really holding it back.

  • @dre04mach

    Awesome. please do one with a centrifugal... I'm really curious if the blower amplifies the results, or simply negates the downsides of the intakes (like the 4.6s did with a blower).
    I didn't do OPGs on my car and I figured I'll get a gen2 coyote or a long block for it sometime down the road and would love to set it up from the get go with the right intake... the current gen1 coyote is gonna get transfered to my 205k mile 2004 to replace that tired 4.6 (which is probably struggling to break 200rwhp by now)

    Surprised with the CJ manifold results. From the other sources I’ve seen the cobra jet is king even on gen 1 coyotes. In fact it’s less popular to be used on the gen 2 cars because of the hood clearance. But I guess times have changed and the 2018+ manifold does make good power. Now I’m curious and want to get my CJ setup dynoed.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 Před 2 lety

      It is king it doesn't show out as well on a gen 1 because the cams hold it back. The heads do slightly but the cams are the main reason if you also have cams a cj will shine on a gen 1 car you could prob get pretty close to 500 wheel on e85 from a fbo cammed cj gen 1 with stock heads. It starts being able to make power where the cj wants to make power. It's all in the combo. If you don't have cams to take advantage of the cj it isn't gonna perform like it should especially on a gen 1 that has milder cams than gen2. The heads also flow better in gen 2 so both make a difference but the cams make the most difference from what I've seen. I've seem fbo cammed cj gen 1 cars making damn good power it's Def the cams mostly holding it back.

    I’ve got a Cobra Jet on my Gen 1 Coyote and I’m quite happy with it. Going from bone stock to a Cobra Jet intake manifold, VMP tune, FRPP cold air, and GT500 twin 60mm throttle body, I picked up about 5 mph in trap speed. The Cobra Jet is quite expensive, but I think with the 2018 manifold, you’re just paying for the performance. The Cobra Jet looks way better. Although if I’m being honest, I’d probably get a ported 2018 manifold if I was to do it all over again.

    • @kapss0832
      @kapss0832 Před 3 lety

      Why go with the 18 if I may ask...i have a 14 and don’t know what to go with a 18 or a cobra....it’s not a daily but I’m not over here stomping it to the floor...I do drive aggressive and like to go fast whenever I can though...

    • @codymiller1994
      @codymiller1994 Před 3 lety +1

      Kapss 08 The Cobra Jet is king, but it’s really only King from about 7300 rpm onwards. I’ve raced a couple ‘18 manifold cars and mine starts to pull away from them in fourth gear, but first, second, and third gear the 18 manifold cars are basically right beside me. I love the Cobra Jet, but it’s way more money than a ported ‘18 and offers only a small difference in real world performance. If at some point you want to do cams as well and do an all out NA build, I’d recommend the Cobra Jet, but as far as just doing some bolt ons, a ported ‘18 manifold is great! I’m at the point now though where I’ve had enough of the NA life, my car will be getting a VMP Gen 2R over the winter,

    • @kapss0832
      @kapss0832 Před 3 lety

      Cody Miller you lose big amount of torque tho with the cobra jet no? And thanks for giving me that run down I mean money is thankfully not an issue saved money in my “fun jar” but just wondering what would be more fun and noticeable to drive on the road I guess

    • @codymiller1994
      @codymiller1994 Před 3 lety

      Kapss 08 I personally didn’t notice a torque drop with the Cobra Jet. I also have 3.73 gears which I’ve heard makes the torque loss less noticeable. The top end pull of the Cobra Jet is a lot of fun. The power never really falls off. If money isn’t an issue, I’d get the Cobra Jet. It’s definitely better, the ‘18 is just better value.

    I wonder if the truck manifold would pick up ET with a stock converter? Aftermarket converter I see little to no benefit of that manifold on a drag strip. Even with a stock converter after the first shift that torque isn't going to matter much. The question would be will the 60ft time gained over a stock manifold be enough to justify the 15RWHP loss. Track testing would be interesting but I think it would be a waste of time on Chucky which has a converter.

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Anthony, the need for oil pump gears and crank sprocket isn't really associated with modifications as much as it is the type/style of driving you're doing. If this is a stick car that's driven hard and has a chance of hitting the rev limiter frequently, OPG and CS are something you should consider. If it's a basic street car that doesn't see much abuse or 6R80 car that's daily driven, so on and so forth; the OPG and CS aren't as anywhere near as much risk.

    Would a ported 2018 truck manifold carry power further than 5800 rpm?

    • @momogt09
      @momogt09 Před 3 lety

      I'm wondering if they changed the tune to run the truck manifold mainly the imrc settings. I been doing some testing with the 2018 plus truck manifold on a gen 2 and it carries power all the way to 6700 rpms like a stock gen 2 with the same power drop off. But makes significantly more power and torque threw the curve

    Would the power output be a little higher if this were a manual car?

  • @jdigitalseven7
    @jdigitalseven7 Před 4 lety +5

    Not really a "stock" car with long tube headers ($900-$2000), bigger injectors ($400 ish), and a tune (prolly at least $200). All that alone is probably what increased numbers. Pretty sure the slight loss of tq is felt more than the small gain in hp, honestly stock manifold still seems to be best in N/A form.

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  Před 5 lety +1

      To run an 18 manifold you need to delete the IMRC/CMCV on the back of the manifold and change some vacuum routing. We have a full kit available with tuning support for '11-'17 cars on our website at the link below. We also have an install video to show you how to swap from a stock manifold to a 2018 manifold on both automatic and manual transmission cars.

    People need to understand that redline is NOT the magic shift point, and that the car MUST make all it's power there. You want to shift right song peak hp. If that's below your cars redline, oh well.

    So my question is this mr Justin, a 2018 truck manifold would be a great swap on a gen 1 f150 then. Given the intake cams don’t allow for high revs, the ‘18 manifold should improve on the low end numbers on the Gen 1 f150 🤔🤔

      This vid is a few years old, did u end up putting the 2018 manifold on? I have a 2014 f150 and want more torque and power for towing, I’m not looking for top speed@@NITROUSnBIASPLYS

    • @NITROUSnBIASPLYS
      @NITROUSnBIASPLYS Před 21 dnem

      @user-xm1fo3eb5m I did do the testing yes. I got a tune from OZ tuning the omega tune. First off, Oz & vmp were not willing to try different cam angles to vet the manifold data for torque/mpg use not just WOT. I did my own data logging on the Oz omega tune and swapping back and forth between manifolds and found the 18 manifold would possibly make slightly more torque down low, but not as much peak torque. Also the peak hp according to the maf was down over 40hp. This testing was done on a 2014 F150 engine. Also I was planning on running the IMRC on the 18 truck manifold and since the 14 f150 has no control over this engine function, I was going to make a relay for them to close when my cruise was set for potential better mpg. This did not work as the IMRC vacuum pods don't clear the firewall on the gen1 F150.
      Long and short, stick with the gen1 manifold. If anything I'd recommend the OZ Omega tune as it's a flex tune for any fuel
