Secret Way To Improve Pitch - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy
One of the greatest challenges we face when we lack confidence in something is the giant mountain we think we have to climb to overcome a fear, a goal, or a weakness.
But if there's anything I've learned about overcoming fear or conquering a weakness or reaching a goal in my life is facing it head on.
However, this also can present its challenges in the arduousness and tedium it takes to make progress step-by-step.
Let me use exercise as an example.
Please don't laugh at me and this may sound silly but I'm gonna say it anyway.
In my younger years, it was nothing to throw on a pair of sneakers and jog 5 to 8 miles every single day and sometimes even in soft sand half of the way as I lived by the beach. I actually enjoyed running because it helped me clear my mind and gave me good exercise at the same time.
So for me, it was somewhere between an effort and pleasure. But I will be candid, there were those days I did not feel like throwing on those sneakers and running for 5 miles.
But an even more pleasurable thing for me living by the ocean was surfing. I loved to swim, I loved to surf, I loved boogie boarding and I could find myself in the water for two or even three hours and not realize how much time had gone by. This form of "exercise" was not tedious at all; in fact, it was fun and pleasurable and the byproduct was really good exercise.
However, I hated going into a gym and working out for an hour and literally watch the minutes go by until my hour was up. It was grueling, it was tedious, and it was discouraging, but it was necessary when I wasn't able to run or swim. In recent years, I found another fun sport called pickle ball that has a similar effect as running and swimming for me and for others.
But how does this relate to singing?
If we can find things that make us smile, get us excited, and things we can look forward to rather than feeling the weight of the arduousness of vocal exercises, we find ourselves practicing longer, more often, and with greater enthusiasm.
So in this video, I wanted to show you fun ways to improve pitch rather than fearing it!
I hope you find this information beneficial on your singing journey!

When I first started your course, I would always sign flat... the way I fixed this was to record a piano track into my DAW of single notes that sustained for a few seconds each, then I created a track for my microphone and added a tuner to it in order to monitor my pitch. This helped me learn what it felt like to be on pitch and it fixed my flatness. I still place a tuner on all of my vocal performances after I record them just to make sure my pitch is on point. I've actually had some friendly disagreements with folks on the KTVA forums telling me that "this note here, and this note there" weren't on pitch, but I assured them that they were, even double checking the tuner for reassurance, I'm assuming they just didn't like how I sounded and that is fine but..... the pitch was on darn it!! lol

biggest problem for me is singing without a guitar which is often in the studio. just like when mixing, the ears get tired after a while. It sounds good for the moment but the next day 80% of the tracks are
    Delete.

Thanks again. Your channel is top notch!
I am an extreme do it yourselfer so I figured out techniques like this on my own It was both enlightening and very helpful. I have never used Karaoke versions . I use the OG music and do my best to copy the vocal.notes, inflection, meter etc and sing over it.
Then I write a midi bass and/or a piano track for reference . Finally I isolate my track and start working on it. If I had started doing this decades ago, I'd be singing like a champ by now :)

Great way to practice listening… but the most important thing not mentioned is you have to hear yourself! If you don’t hear yourself you’re gonna be off key without a doubt. I remember seeing something with Celine Dion and her monitor setup on stage. She was so particular about the placement. I’ve seen the best singers in the world off key and it was because they couldn’t hear themselves!

    Happy New Year! I do exactly what you do in this video... i've practice for at least 25 times each ones of theses songs;
    I won't Give up - Jason Mraz
I will always love you - Whitney houston
A thousand Years - Christina perri
Can't help falling in love - Elvis presley
my biggest difficulty is the belly foundation support breath technique... It seems i give to much pressure as i practice and it takes only few minutes and my belly is so tight i have to stop. I have a big problem with support i don't know how much pressure i'm suppose to give and when (high note versus low notes) My whole life i've worked out... i usually do abs with 75 kilo... so i'm not really sure what i'm doing wrong. Thank for your help

Ken - neat way to do it, I do it with a women's chorus I direct, but I think I'll push it a little more! Question though, I used to sing in quartets, choirs, etc (not really a soloist) on pitch. Now though, the pitch in my head sounds bang on (even on the top of the note) but what comes out of my mouth is always several cents flat. I have a great ear, I tune pianos, hear beats, all that - but this is what has somehow happened to me. So - think it's physical or neurological?
