I have been working on cars for over two decades. I have watched hundreds of YT videos on car repair. The mechanic in this video is by far one of the best people that I have ever seen doing these types of videos. The demonstrated knowledge, narration, pace and tone where flawless. No superfluous talking . . . every single word that she uttered was valuable and accurate. This video should be the example that all other YT mechanics should use as the archetype of the perfect instructional video. Job well done.

This was done so well, you make it look effortless, you describe everything perfectly and comprehensively,I am so thankful for this video and for you ma’am. You have not only gave me a great video for the job I have to get done but you have inspired me to do it myself. No one wants to help me, I’ve even offered cash to some mechanics and they won’t do it. I bought all the tools , the timing belt kit, the alignment bar , and I am now watching this video for the 100th time and will be while I do it . Wish me luck!

There's great mechanics, and great teachers, but probably far fewer of those who are both. Like everybody else said, this video is great - the pacing, the camera work, the audio. This is my favorite mechanic on this channel, and I appreciate the explanations of what you should avoid, such as marring a sealing surface because it happens to be aluminum. 👏👏

This was a great video. I got everything tore down in one afternoon after watching this a couple of times. The cam sprockets were tough. I think she used a 15/16" wrench to hold the cams in place, but that absolutely would not go on. A 24mm worked for me. Thank you to the mechanic in the video. Edit: Got everything together and the car ran rough and would not idle. Went back under the next morning and found a disconnected vacuum hose. Working on and moving the engine up and down cause this. Once the hose was back in place, the engine ran correctly.

Excellent job on the video! Best and most comprehensive of the ones currently online for this particular job. As for the ZTEC being an interference engine, it fits the technical definition of an interference engine (the highest point of the piston overlaps the lowest point of the valves), but in practice it is a noninterference engine, because of the fact that recesses have been molded into the pistons, so that the valves never actually hit the pistons.

    • @Dwrecksk8Yo
      @Dwrecksk8Yo Před 4 lety +11

Yea it’s a non interference you can spin both cams all the way around without the valves kissing pistons with crank at top dead but technically your right about the lowest point of the valves being lower than highest point of top of piston but as you say in practice I’ve never seen a zetec bend valves and I’ve broken 2 timing belts on the highway with all my years modifying and building this engine

My understanding is the regular Zetec will freewheel, but the SVT is an interference engine.
Going to be doing this next week as my tensioner blew itself apart, so I'm glad I don't have the SVT.
FWIW, also the ideal time to replace the water pump, serpentine belt and its idler and tensioner, and the engine mounts while you've got all this stuff apart.

luv your video...one of the best 4 replacing time belt..helped me on replacing mine.
my car is 16 years old with 70k miles but decided to do it. The old belt was actually good. no cracks or spongey..However after starting the car was sputtering and running rough and stalling in drive. was throwing up my hands. Was going to repeat disassemble to see where l went wrong. Then l decided to replace the bosch plugs with the old motorcaft plugs which came with car new. Fortunately l saved them after 50k miles...and was surprised in that the motor purred like a kitten and was better than ever.. WHEW!!!

I started watching this out of curiosity more then anything else.

I could not be able to do this without first trying to pull more the one motor apart just to get the hang of it.

    Cam sprocket bolts 50 ft-lbs
T-belt Idler and tensioner pully bolts 18 ft-lbs plus a little extra in practice (more like 20-22 ft-lbs)
Valve cover bolts 7 nm / 62 INCH-Lb in sequence
(Note: do not clean your valve cover right over your open engine and do not use any abrasives to clean your head)
Engine mount bracket to engine 37 ft-lb
    Crankshaft pulley bolt 90 ft-lbs
Watch the whole video if you are a novice, overall great video but avoid using any abrasives on or in an open engine it can put grit into the engine leading to camshaft, oil pump or bearing failure.

Thanks. Great video. Really very well done, and very good mechanical advice.
Have an identical engine in a 2004 Mazda Tribute 2.0L YF engine Vin 3, Carbed. Knowing the VIN 3 or B or whatever - is a life saver looking for parts or a spare head. The number is inside the driver door. Took 2 weeks to find the bolt that stops the crank for timing TDC. Thanks for making it look easy (haha) back there under the exhaust manifold.
Everyone else points to it at the front on the other side under the generator. Who the hell makes an engine with no Keyways and no line up marks on the crank or cam wheels??
Our engine has NO keyway on the crank pulley. NO marks on the pulley wheel - nothing. It is simply held in place by the tightness of the crank bolt !!!!! Came close to making one....
If not for the crank timing pin, there is no "practical way" to set the timing on one of these Zetec engines. And we couldn't find it for quite a while in any manual or video. Yours is the first one to show it under the exhaust. Luckily the cam slots are off center keeps you from guessing if it is 180 out. The cam wheels have no marks that "line up". Popping the seals for the cam wheels, and crank shaft was easy, BUT, the parts books like to list the REAR crank seal first. You have to make sure you specify the FRONT crank seal. Be ware of cracking that top plastic timing belt cover, although we found a couple of good used ones, and the lower belt cover as well.
Also noticed tightening the belt tensioner can change the timing set up. Watched you keep that cam tool and the Crank timing pin - stuck in there until you were done!!
The worst part of taking the head off was the frigging power steering hose and the odd ball exhaust bolt hidden by the hose. RTV is a 25% surcharge for dealing with it ;-)
Nice little engine. We warped the head at 244,000 miles. Bottom end still looked pretty good !. Put a used head on it for $125, and $250 of belts and gaskets and new water pump.

This video is 😉 amazing. Clear well explained I made myself a challenge to replace the timing belt on my focus and I did it perfectly following this video. I’m a handy person but not a mechanic. Thank you so much 1A Auto. Question: is it possible to get a video on how to replace a leaking cylinder head freeze plugs? My second Ford Focus car started leaking coolant by the cover valve.
