      But you didnt mention the imrcv (intake manifold runner control valve) aka swirlflaps that retard air flow at low rpm for fuel efficiency. Eventually wear down. If one flaps falls before you fix it' it falls into the cylinder which causes catastrophic failure. Great video other then that. I have 07 zx3 five speed. If you could do a video addressing a perma fix. zx owners would owe you 1. Ive heard you can take the flaps out put back bearings and main rod as to not get a check engine but also eliminate the risk of motor dieing.

Changed the motor mounts so in the future it’s a easy change for the new car. Really excited for this baby. Basically a mini mini van with 28 mpg.

    Our 2007 focus 3dr hatchback has been a great running car.
    We purchased it used in 2009 with just under 40k miles it currently has 133k.
    Normal Maintenance has been front and rear brakes, rotors, drums, tires, ac top off, oil changes, and coolant flush.
    I have replaced the driver door locking actuator, both lower control arms due to deteriorating bushings, a muffler.
    I save a lot of money by doing all of the repairs myself.

    I just recently got a 2002 ZX5 from a police auction with 206k miles for $910 and MANUAL TRANSMISSION which is the MAIN REASON I got it (they are getting HARDER to find). The key thing is something that I did have a problem with from the get go, I lubed EVERYTHING possible that may not been done in GOD KNOWS HOW LONG. The oil was quite clean and SURPRISINGLY everything important appears to work ok even the cruse control.😯😁 It RUNS PRETTY GOOD, have to restrain myself from ZOOM ZOOMING to much because it RUNS SO WELL especially because of the manual transmission. It actually handles pretty good as well, need to replace the tires in the reasonable future because when it rains and if I'm speeding a little it does slide a little but not too much but enough to keep me from pushing it too hard in the RAIN. It holds the road GREAT when the road is DRY. IT HAS PUT THE FUN BACK INTO JUST NORMAL EVERYDAY DRIVING.😄👍😎

  • @mcjitsu

    Good Video. Thanks! As a professional locksmith, the main reason the ignition swithc goes bad is from people who hang a ton of crap on the end of it. It pulls down the rear, tips up the tip and wears things out. Also all locks in American cars are made with brass pins or side lock wafers. If you are not using a brass key, you are wearing out the key AND the lock.
    Also those window motors ? OMFG what a Byzantine bow string winding cable confusion those are!!!

    I have the problem with the key getting stuck in the ignition. My friend came over and showed me a trick to get it out on my 2007 Ford Focus. She moved my shifter You can shift it from park to anyone; drive, Nutural reverse, etc. then pull the small plastic ring on the shaft (just below your hand). Pull the ring up sometimes I have to turn it now that I have been doing it for so long. Put it back into park and try to see if it releases your key. I sometimes have to try a few times. It happens every once in a great while. So I haven’t found the need to get it fixed. Hope I explained it well. I am no mechanic and not mechanically inclined by all means if u can’t tell lol I just wanted to put this out there. If it wasn’t for my friend showing me I would have been screwed with having to leave my key in the ignition and having to pay $$$ when I didn’t have to for anyone who can’t afford and save the money for other repairs (maintenance) on my vehicle.
    I don’t recommend anyone driving my vehicle without me in it to explain the different things u may need to know or u may not depending on my vehicle that day 🤷🏽‍♀️ it can be a bi bipolar like it’s owner 🤦🏽‍♀️

Video quality is excellent, you can watch the repair and see what is going on, so many don't cover the entire process because the camera light source is not enough. I trust what I can see as it is being explained or performed at the same time. I go to this site first, always.

    Don't forget the EPFS(Egr Pressure Feedback Sensor) and the Crankcase Emission Breather hose...the first one connect to two metal pipes via two short rubber hoses...the parts from the sensor that connect to the hoses are plastic and tend to crack overtime due to heat...#2 is a little hose that connect to the crankcase vent system and is located behind the intake manifold...it become to soft overtime due to the heat and tend to strangle...both things when bad can cause the engine to stall very badly and sometimes lose power or turn off.

Had to replace alternator, thermostat, battery of course, fuel pressure sensor, plugs of course.... it's been a perfectly reliable car, despite what numerous Toyota fans told me. I have had 4 Focuses (2001, 2003, 2007, 2005) since my first one back in 2006 and I've had incredible luck with each one of them but I definitely had the motor mount issue on all of them, as well throttle position sensor issues on the first three and an idle air control issue on the first two. I love these little cars and always end up regretting trading them in. Recently, I decided to get a back-up vehicle so I found myself a 5 speed 2005 full of all the "bells and whistles" with only 100k miles (my first hatchback/two door) on it in amazing shape for super cheap and don't plan to ever get rid of it. I actually got my second Focus up past 300k miles before selling it (four kids, needed a third-row SUV) and not once did that car let me down so I've got high hopes for my most recent purchase, being that it has such "low" miles on it. I'm not a Ford guy by far but I can honestly swear by these extremely dependable little cars.

    Have had most of these problems on my 2001 Focus wagon. Have not had any problem with ignition key, keep it lubed with spray dry lock lube. Fuel pump gave up about 4 or 5 years ago, was replaced by Ford for free, caught fuel pump recall in its last few months! Motor mounts need changing every year or so if you use the cheap ones, (Arrow), from parts stores, use oem parts on this. Window regulator cables broke on left rear door, other doors OK. Bigger problem is all four door handles broke, small pot metal part breaks on handle reinforcement, only metal part and it breaks! Alternator, on third one, used local rebuilt part and it dies after one year warranty, used pro rebuilt alternator the last time- no problems!

    The motormount that is at the front of the engine under the coolant reservoir. is a liquid filled mount and they frequently go bad. and the ignition switch, if a person is having a problem with removing the key from the switch. they might check the shifter because they have a safety incorporated in them. that won't let you remove the key unless the shifter is all the way in the park position. of course that pertains to automatic transmission models only.

    Before you replace the ignition cylinder, make sure the plastic sleeve around the gear shift hasn't dropped down into the console preventing it from going into park. I've had this happen a few times and the result is you can't take the key out. You can just push it back up into place.

  • @sloweee4617
    @sloweee4617 Před 3 lety +3

    I work on many of these ford focuses from 00-11 mostly work on the 2.0 duratecs. there are many common issues that are not listed in these videos.
    -Valve cover gasket, the seals around the spark plug holes give out and will leak into the spark plug hole, usually it doesn't cause an issue but if you go to do plugs and find oil then you know the vcg is due for a change.
    -front lower control arms, these have a tendency to rot out because if the design, and the rearward bushing is a common part to wear out.
    -water pump, very common for the bearingon the shaft on the waterpump to start letting coolant through usually doesnt leak enough to be noticeable unless you're specifiaccly looking for it.
    -Rocker panels, from 00-11 ford used some chip guard paint on these rockers, if you live in the rust belt then you probably see alot of focuses with rotted rockers, the chip guard coating they use traps moisture and they rust from the inisde out usually.
    -08-11 focuses tend to have the front calipers sieze alot more than the other years.

  • @philg5888
    @philg5888 Před rokem

    I've owned 7, MK1 ford focus, their great cars overall, yes, the cheaper motor mounts are an issue, as the aftermarket ones only last a year or two if you're lucky, as motor craft (OEM Ford product) does not make them anymore, and those were the best at the time, as you'd not be replacing them as often.
    The ignition key tumbler issue is also exacerbated by heavy keys on your key rings, as it will warp the tumblers in the cylinder, causing the issues mentioned in the video.
    The alternator wiring harness usually after 5 years or so will eventually corrode due to age and the wires will sometimes fall out of the plug ends of it, and replacing it is the only solution, as the early warning sign of this is the battery light flashing every so often to tell you the battery isn't being recharged, if you ignore it will eventually stay on once the battery warning light stays on full time, and you will kill the battery if you don't replace that stupid harness.
    As for the fuel pump, it was an issue in the first model years (2000, 2001, 2002) where there was a recall by Ford about this, the other issue related to the fuel sputtering issue is a clogged fuel filter, as that is also something that needs to be changed every 50,000 kms / 35,000 miles as it will clog up and cause the same issues as the bad fuel pump, there was a TSB about this issue in 2002 / 2003 for the earlier model years and the fuel pump recall was for all focus's from 2000 till 2002.

The intake for thd filter is routed inside the passenger fender (its a long snorkel). Its a lot of plastic and it is nice in a way, but I went to a Steeda Cold air intake which gave the engine more pep and you can clean and change filters as you desire.

      It's a pain you have to take off the wheel and wheel well cover to get to it all. It's insane how long it is, it ducts all the way back to the driver's side mirror for the intake opening, hidden in the fender. I cleaned it out the best I could and left a few inhibitive parts off, it helped. (2ft pipe and bs screen before maf) The wheels chirped the first time givin' it the beans then the computer quickly regulated any fun out of it for the sake of the transmission.

    A super common problem that there is no easy fix for...the recirculation door. A lot of people think the fix is a new motor, but it's not. The plastic gear strips out and you can try epoxy, but the only real fix is to replace the whole heater box inside the cabin. Assuming you find one in a junkyard that didn't fail yet. I just leave mine on recirculate and reach inside the glove box opening if I need to switch it manually.
