I have a Volvo C30 which is a Focus in a posh frock with these stretch belts and I have been having nightmares about replacing them. The way you replaced that AC belt made it look so easy. Thank you so much for putting my mind at rest.
I did a similar episode on my channel on my MK1 Focus, the stretch belt is a rare fitment on a MK1 being only fitted to non-air con 1.6 models after 2001 for some unknown reason. On a MK2 it seems to be a standard fitment almost. I'm glad you've done this the same way as using the correct tool is very frustrating and a waste of money as you've demonstrated. The only difference in the way I do it... I take the bottom bolt almost all the way out so it makes getting the belt on the alternator pulley much easier than struggling to move it around the water pump. It's just really important to make sure to align those two alternator bolts otherwise you'll ruin the thread and then your in for hours of fun! Great video again :)
Thank god I come across this video now I can give it a go. The reason for me watching it is to change my thermostat but I have to take the alternator out but put the belt on last. Thanks
thanks, I like your method, your way makes it easier, than stretching the belt on , I have a stretch belt on my fiesta , almost identical to the focus you're working on here , that is again for your videos ,
@@brianfearn4246 i have the 1.8 ford engine in a mazda 6. Replaced the aux belt myself on the cheap for 20euro, took me about 2hrs. About 1month later the belt tensioner started to rattle, getting worse and worse. So I had to replace the tensioner too. lesson learnt, replace the tensioner and belt at the same time.
It's the most brutal job I've done to date I got my idea from this video as when I found out had no tensioner pulley I was baffled to how you fit them. I could not align the bolts to the block with the belt on so I stuck a long screwdriver in 2nd hold while screwing in the left side bolt while a a friend had hold on a long bar to stop the bolt from cross threading. Most brutal job to do on your own definitely easyia with 2 and the right tools to assist
Nice!!!!!! Im just doin this job exact same engine Thanks man i got the bar and will give it a go Yu made it look easy ....i think you just made this job a joy to do
I did this on my fiesta. I loosened the belt like you did but I had to bar the hell out of the alternator to get that stud in. That e bolt is not meant to take that kind of abuse and I ended up snapping the end.
Don't own a Focus, have never owned one, and probably never will... and yet for some reason I've now watched the vid three times. Must be that British accent or I've just had too much JD. But then again, can one really have too much JD in this ClownWorld? Anyway... good vid, thumbs up, and all the good stuff. 🥃
Just done timing belt on 56 plate Mazda 2 following your fiesta video…… by far the most difficult part of the job was the 2x auxiliary belts pain in the A£@ lol used the lazer tool but it was a pain haha but got there keep up good work
Great video,i did a 2.2 transit alternator so had to remove 2 stretch belts one for the alternator and one for the power steering, trying to make the job easier i bolted a tool to remove the belt and snapped the power steering pulley which is plastic 😂😂😂😂😂 lesson learnt 🤦♂️😅
hello, congratulations you are very clear in the explanations, I wanted to ask you if you also made the video regarding the service belt change for the mondeo 2.0 mk5, thanks.
Hi for the Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec the same as you just worked on do you need the AC belt as my AC has never worked? I want to change belts but as it's a separate belt can I just leave it off?
Hi Alen On Focus MK2 1.6 petrol 100hp can you change the water pump only without disturbing the timing belt tensioner. Thank you Stupid me I found your previous video for timing belt replacement and answer is no 😂
The cheap bits of tin you get with the kit are next to useless I agree but I’ve got the proper tool, it’s night and day between the two, I think it cost something like £30 but I’ve used it loads of times. Once you’ve used it a few times it slips the belt on a doddle.
Maybe you have not dealed with transit mk 7. Would be interesting if you had some experience about that van in general, expecially engine ,drivetrain issues.

Thanks a lot. I was looking for a video for a Volvo 1.6 (2006) but I can clearly see that its the same engine.
I do not have a Focus bit I like to see how smoothly you work. Magic. I wish my old 2005 Mondeo was so easy to work with.
You no these car like the back of your hand. I have a 2007 focus zetec so your videos come in really handy 👍
Brilliant video, crystal clear and straight to the point with no waffle. 10/10. 👍
thank you, appreciate it😊
Thank you for the Zetec memories Alan 👍😉💪

Straight to point and very informative
You saved me some hours and some fingers! Thanks
I thought all modern cars had tensioners for aux belts, you learn something new every day 👌
The mk2 focus 1.8 has a belt tensioner but the 1.6 doesn't.

Thanks alot, worked on 2011 mk3 Focus 1.6 Ti-Vct ❤
Thank you for doing this, Alan, Know what you been about the special tool could never get it to work.
Great job Alan, Thank You👌👍🙏😎
Man,thanks a lot....you saved my nerves,day & month.😀😃
Hi Alan, great post . Unfortunately needed it 2 weeks ago😂
Top tip thanks. I remember having a battle with that belt. Didn't leave the bottom bolt on and it was horrible.
That's the one Alan , so much easier , that's why we in the know do it this way ❤
Best one yet, thanks.

hi, this is for the mk5 2l diesel. .czcams.com/video/toKv2yUoU6Y/video.html
Thanks for the info.
Another trick with the air con belt if you don’t fancy trapping fingers is a cable tie at the sort of 7pm spot and wind it round then.
I was expecting the car show video last sunday...😂😂
thats work in progress still 🤣
@@alan4x i wanna see Dave ,vivian and kevin ☺️☺️☺️ with u
Great video I have been looking for a long time for someone to show how this is done - many thanks - do you know the size of the 2 belts thanks again

Have you ever done the cam dephaser?

Thank you
Thankyou 👍
I have done it the same way on a fiesta.
Do you ever do a service on transit customs deisel
Thank you , i dont have the correct tool so i have to loose the alternator ( i dont see the 3rd bolt). That was helpfull

Checking width of belts might be an idea as well.
Hammer! I get it😊
Ten points!
Do you recommend all 10 years/160'000 kms? Thanks and greetings from Switzerland 🎉
i would change the belts myself at 10 years or 100k miles
wish id watched this before i done my fiesta belt

I need a ac belt but i cant get hold of one so annoying
E bit is 6mm. 👍
godsend
So much easier on the 1.8. Just push the pulley aside and the belt come loose...
is there no adjustments on this car
No tensioner on this car.
The 1.8 focus has a belt tensioner but not the 1.6
Doesn't loom so easy to me 🤣 comparing to the tensioner you can just slacken
Yes stupid idea really the one I struggle with is fiesta power steering a right sht to get on only a small belt
That advice would have been good a while ago, it is a terrible work like you said, i think continental stretches more easily.
Maybe you have not dealed with transit mk 7. Would be interesting if you had some experience about that van in general, expecially engine ,drivetrain issues.
