② XROBOTS
Former toy designer, current CZcams maker and general robotics, electrical and mechanical engineer, I’m a fan of doing it yourself and innovation by trial and error. My channel is where I share some of my useful and not-so-useful inventions, designs and maker advice. Iron Man is my go-to cosplay, and 3D printing can solve most issues - broken bolts, missing parts, world hunger, you name it.
XRobots is the community around my content where you can get in touch, share tips and advice, and more build FAQs, schematics and designs are also available.

It's just crazy to think how far you've come since the R6! Love this channel and love seeing the build complexity increase with each project
James, there is a sheer joy & pleasure conveyed in all this. Cannot help but feel this is foregleams of future surrounding robotics and automation- their creation can be fun, they should be fun and you're showcasing exciting engineering and problem solving that's becoming more accessible to people who could only dream of such. Thank you for inviting the global internet community to view as well as the interactive 'human element'. Good work!
it struck me watching this that while I've been gobsmacked watching what James does while holding down a full time job, and I know he's cutting back soon to focus on his channel which is awesome, he's actually accomplishing more than some robotics teams in universities get done. clearly he has the advantage of experience in design/engineering/prototyping/etc, but even so it's just amazing to watch and I'm very grateful.

outstanding work James, have really enjoyed your builds and travels to shows, looking forward to what you have planned for the years ahead. Seasonal salutations!
Great! Keep up the good work James!!
God bless you, you are a great designer, person and clearly a genius. Learning a lot of your work.
Awesome to see how far you've come!
Hi James, i could never grt my head around how you make these droids...... keep up the videos i really enjoy watching them.
Love this James! Will forward people to this video whenever they ask about what 3D printing can make!
***** you're a huge inspiration for my channel, thank you!
how can i build one of these without a 3d printer
tuxzombie 2250012 imagination. 3d printers are just a tool. You can use a variety of other materials and tools to achieve the same outcome.
You've inspired me to do more robotics & arduino stuff in the last 6 months (since I found your channel) than the previous 5 years. Thank you heaps.
Wowwwwwwwwww so amazing
Genius! Can’t wait to see what other cool things you build.
There's R4. I was waiting for more videos on him. He's by far my favorite of your creations.
You do Amazing work James keep it up man!!
Thaks for this! This brought me back many memories from hours after school watching you :'-)
You're a very smart man, God haves gaving you a great talent. You are a very bless man.
Love it. I hope to once see them fully "dressed up" without electronics visible. Just so that it would really feel like in the movies.
I doubt it'll happen to be honest, James is far too proud of his electronics work to cover them up. He's said before that he intentionally leaves them with panels missing to show off the insides.
Yeah, I know that. But my OCD needs to see them complete, at least temporarily. Just so that they would be ready or done, even if taken apart later permanently :)
Wonderful work James, you're an inspiration! I too have started a BB8 build, Jumping in the deep end with no 3D or Arduino knowledge. Its going surprisingly well :P
youve come so far. ive watched you since you were making your iron man armor and never missed a video. thanks for giving me something to sip my coffee too. thanks for inspiring me to learn to code!
Amazing!!!
Awesome!
Merry Christmas LulzBot, best present ever.
I love this channel, I really do. Shame it's not more popular.
Cool fait. Plus. Mieux
Prends-toi bb8
Où. Bien r2d2
All your hard work is amazing! I'd love to see you get a job working for a Star Wars film. It's possible!
Everything's cool, but I'm dissatisfied about the fact, that you never actually finished GONK ):
Amazing...
I want to get into 3D printing my own R unit but what type of 3D printer do you use?
amazing!! it s great. yoy. hello from belarus, just great
James you've got such a great body of work here, have you ever considered selling a step by step tutorial on some of these projects?
I love you vids and I've been a sub since hulk buster ep.1
I watched every one of you biulds so far and love them
Hey James! 👋 Love your 💪👷 work. WONDERING .....is there space enough for a mini fridge compartment in these astromechs? Been brewing over this one for awhile even a six pack or fewer.
mmm the third leg might be an issue but I still see a lot of empty space.
Hello James, I love what you do! I am just about to start an Iron man helmet, which was the first project of yours and am concerned about sizing it. How large was yours, I want to be able to fit in electronics, but not too large for the rest of the suit. Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Nice music; where I can find it?
Which 3D printer do you use?
Hi James what 3D printer do you use? btw keep up the good work. i was very shocked to find out that you are also in Southampton as am I : )
Hi James very nice the droids you make i thing the next project you can do is Wall-e what do you think? PS i love looking what you do ;-)
Hey James. Have you ever thought about putting small camera's in your bots' eyes, so you can record their interactions at conventions?
A small Pi zero with camera module doesn't weigh that much and could easily fit inside BB-8 for example
How did you make his robot?
Will you ever make a version of this like Chopper from Star Wars rebels?
Thank you for your effort
You are clever man.
nice promo
what is your background :P ?
Muy bueno
Neat music
you is a geniou's
Have you ever tried a C-3P0 like humanoid robot?
I kinda hope a battle droid is next....
That's amazing James! I've watched a few of your builds, and I was wondering if you build droids like these for customers. I don't have the money now, but if you do make droids for customers, I'm planning on looking for a custom builder when I have $6-7000 saved up. Probably next summer
That's US dollars by the way, I'm not sure what the exchange is, but it's at least a few thousand pounds
Also, walking robots are hard to build! They tend to fall over, your gonk Droid is evidence that you're an incredibly skilled engineer
Please give R6 panels if you are finished modifying him :) I’d imagine you’d use a white and orange colour scheme for him.
nais bro
juste continu James
could you of made it so that the gyro mechanism moved differently. it looks kinda stiff
Great work!!!
Battle Droid would be amazing!!
marcelodamians I don't think that's possible :s...
Can you make D-Walker ?
You should make a starwars b1 battle Droid
*GONK*
Imagine accidentally dropping one, that would be heart breaking
AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Cue the inspirational music, boys, it's time for a montage!
bet you can't 3d print a life size dalek which is capable of opening like in the show, with move able arms eye and head, not forgetting the mutant inside
Snake Daemon knowing him, he probably could!
in terms of a robotics challenge, he's already well past that. would be a cool prop but he's solving far more complex problems than an inverted wheeled rubbish bin with a remote-actuated door and some blinking lights.
I want the world to have like pet r2,R1,R3,R4,R5,R6,R7,R8,R9 and stuff and gonk droids, c3pos and stuff
It be nice
Hey. Good afternoon. It is 13:29 PM. My name is Israel Avilano and I live in Brazil. I'm using a translator to talk to you. I'm a Star Wars fan and would like to build or purchase an R2D2 Radio Control but the cost benefit was affordable. I wanted one with a height of 97cm. Would you help me to acquire one? I could try to build it piece by piece or try to buy one. If I'm going to build one, I'd want to start at the bottom with the wheels and motors and the RC part. I would do the whole structure later in 3D or with another material. It's a dream of mine to have one of these but I wanted to be able to make one that fit in my pocket and do it little by little. Wouldn't it help this fan here? I would be very grateful. I don't know where to buy the parts either.
Where is the blue one? :)
Sorry, i meant the R2D2 which is at 0:43, somehow i remembered that as your build. But looking back the videos, it is not there. Where is that from? From the builders' club?
Aaaa, so that one is the child in the basement :)
Did I get this rigth his r6 video has an r2 but this r2 vid has an r6
can u make wall-e?
and James can u tell how to start building these type of project I mean what should know (arduino and any program ing language like c?)
the wires make it look messy put panels over them
gonk
u should try to get pple to donate to a metal 3d printer, then build a REAL ironman suit ;)
N
You're using freaking tinkercad! Get on Maya. It's better for more advanced designs.
Your design was fine. Great actually. But on really advanced designs Maya works better, even though some of the features are useless for 3D printing. It does cost money whereas tinkercad is free. But if your just making a gearbox, choose tinkercad. Also, what motors are you using?
THAT'S NOT R2 THAT'S A R6 Unit
Sorry that I scream I just hate when people say the wrong thing
First
Congratulations, you win the internet!
i would like to thank my mother my dad and you jk :)
