  • I built these Droids over the course of a couple of years with 3D printed moving parts and Arduino related electronics. I hope you enjoy seeing how I built these BB 8, R2-D2 and Star Wars GONK Droid!

James, there is a sheer joy & pleasure conveyed in all this. Cannot help but feel this is foregleams of future surrounding robotics and automation- their creation can be fun, they should be fun and you're showcasing exciting engineering and problem solving that's becoming more accessible to people who could only dream of such. Thank you for inviting the global internet community to view as well as the interactive 'human element'. Good work!

it struck me watching this that while I've been gobsmacked watching what James does while holding down a full time job, and I know he's cutting back soon to focus on his channel which is awesome, he's actually accomplishing more than some robotics teams in universities get done. clearly he has the advantage of experience in design/engineering/prototyping/etc, but even so it's just amazing to watch and I'm very grateful.

Hey. Good afternoon. It is 13:29 PM. My name is Israel Avilano and I live in Brazil. I'm using a translator to talk to you. I'm a Star Wars fan and would like to build or purchase an R2D2 Radio Control but the cost benefit was affordable. I wanted one with a height of 97cm. Would you help me to acquire one? I could try to build it piece by piece or try to buy one. If I'm going to build one, I'd want to start at the bottom with the wheels and motors and the RC part. I would do the whole structure later in 3D or with another material. It's a dream of mine to have one of these but I wanted to be able to make one that fit in my pocket and do it little by little. Wouldn't it help this fan here? I would be very grateful. I don't know where to buy the parts either.

Your design was fine. Great actually. But on really advanced designs Maya works better, even though some of the features are useless for 3D printing. It does cost money whereas tinkercad is free. But if your just making a gearbox, choose tinkercad. Also, what motors are you using?
