Don't be so humbled by them giving you a game...You guys are talented reviewers, and Microsoft is a greedy trillion dollar corporation that was too cheap to do physical prints of this game. You have no reason to suck up to them so much. They should be thanking you for giving their game more attention then it deserves. And yes, as if my last statement didn't make it obvious, the physical fiasco has totally put me off. I'm very much against digital only games, especially when you're asking the price they are for this. Smaller studios, and publishers can manage to pull off gorgeous and lavish physical prints of their games, and yet the big mega corporation can't seem to find it in their budget to print off physical copies? Bull. And no, a physical copy with half the game on the cart wouldn't count.
I'm just gonna wait until they have all the DLCs out in case they do a physical release with everything included. I can't justify buying a $60 game without any of the DLCs digitally that went on sale on other platforms for $20. By then they'll probably add a couple of patches to improve the game as well.
I'll tell you what I'm going to do: just based on your verdict seeing as I don't have a lot of time, I'm going to actually go and buy this game.. And if it's anything less than what you say it is you have lost me as a subscriber. Let's see...

Doom Eternal, Doom, Wolfenstein 2, Wolfenstein: Young Blood, Crysis Remastered, Warface, Bulletstorm, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Metro Redux, Boarderlands Collection, Bioshock Collection..... The Switch actually has a pretty decent selection of first-person shooters now, and they all offer something different from each other.
Panic Button are seriously masters of their craft! How they got this game packed into the limited performance of the Switch is absolutely astounding...just massive.
I really wish Limited Run or anyone release a physical version of D: Eternal. It's one of the best games of 2020. I dare say it's the best FPS on the Switch, surpassing the average Crysis: Remastered.

Not gonna lie, when you first showed gameplay, I thought, "oh no, that looks blurry as hell..." Then you showed it in handheld mode. And I breathed a giant sigh of relief. Game looks fantastic in handheld mode. Definitely picking this up.
My family has this on a PS4 disc which I could steal and play a bit on my PS4 Slim. It's just me being cheeky wanting it for my Switch. I loved getting horror games for my 3DS because of the paradox. I got Carrion for my turquoise Switch Lite and played it some. It's fun and hilarious on a "cute and innocent" device.
This makes sense to be honest - very hard to get a game this smooth/beautiful to run on a system less powerful than some phones. Panic Button do great work to get it to run so well - having it portable is the seller here.
Totally agreed; while most of the other Switch youtubers have ever further fallen into clickbait, endless sponsor videos and "like, comment subscribe" ad nauseum. This channel is just pure quality, straight to the point content that genuinely helps me with my game buying decisions massively
Been teeter-tottering on the decision to buy this for a while, considering I already have it on PS4. But IMO it's game of the year, so you guys have definitely encouraged me to take the plunge and get it on switch!
I double dipped. First bought the PC version, then got Switch version. Both serve a purpose. PC one for a nice looking home version and Switch for Doom on the go. Honestly, the game looks great for a Switch title. I was half-expecting a butchered port and this pleasantly surprised me.
I'm here early but happy. This might have just sold the game for me. I've played the PC version but I love having the classic doom games on my switch. This will be an insane additional to my library.

I bought this game on eShop only minutes after it became available, and so far I don’t regret it! Because it’s 18GB it’s gonna take at least 7 hours to download, but I was just about to go to bed anyway, so it’ll be ready when I wake up!
I have to admit this is the first time I've ever seen this game, and the music just blew my mind completely, the game's presentation is just one of the best things I've ever seen... This is definitely one of those games that are going to be remembered forever - by me, anyway.

It's amazing what Panic Button have done. Doom 2016 ran beautifully on my PC with 120fps and above, and when I fired up Doom Eternal, I was kind of expecting the same performance. But heck no, this game is far more advanced in terms of level complexity, enemy detail, body part- and gamplay systems and I had a hard time even reaching above 90fps. THIS is an amazing port. The only fault in my eyes is that game wasn't tailored more towards the switch (with lower poly models/stages) since they have been working side by side throughout development. It would've been great if they offered the option to use lower poly models and levels (this requires very little data since it is only vector data) as well as being able to disable the gib system and hence get better visual clarity. Anyway. It's impressive. My hope is to be able to play it att full 720p handheld with a Switch revision in the future. :)

I know this is old now, but just picked up the deluxe edition on switch and have the standard version on xbox one x....all I can say is I'm blown away! This genuinely is so good on the oled in handheld! I'm actually enjoying it even more than on xbox! Graphically it's a masterpiece when you take into account how underpowered the switch is compared to xbox one x!

The day this will be released physical I will buy it immediately. But I won't pay money for a digital game. At least not more than 15 bucks. But for a physical version I would even pay 80 bucks if they use a 32GB cartridge and fit all of the game onto it.
I bought almost all of the DOOM franchise for switch on digital. What's wrong with digital? You don't lose it as easily. The only physical advantage is you can return it if you don't like it.

I don't know how many of us just have 18 gigs free for this download at this point. I constantly have to archive and redownload games, and it's not that easy to transfer to a bigger sd card.

This is honestly a big relief. With zero news on Doom for Switch for months I was worried this'll be another Outer Worlds. But while the quality looks bad. It looks playable which is downright impressive. If anyone from Panic Button reads this comment. Not enough prase can satisfy the work y'all put into this. Job well done.
This is half the reason I bought the Switch. The other half was for Alien: Isolation, which is better suited to the Switch because of the save stations. Absolutely brilliant.
I am sooo disappointed that this didn't get a physical release. I understand why, and I'm not mad at the devs, but I intentionally waited to get this on the Switch, but I absolutely refuse to pay full price for a digital game.

I’ve been following this page for a long time now but this is my first comment. So much kudos to you guys for getting this review out and giving us a great perspective on the game. I was on the fence with it being digital only but you’ve made up my mind for me.....it’s downloading as we speak. ‘the stuff of childhood dreams’ such a great comment. Keep up the good work, this is by far and away the best place to come for Switch content.
FPS aren’t really my cup of tea but really positive to see a non Nintendo triple AAA title looking good and running well on the Switch, bodes well for the future
It looks really downgraded on tablet, but docked it's really not that bad if you have a middling graphics card on PC. Compared to high end, yeah, you're sacrificing a lot. But in all fairness even PS4 Pro and Xbone X version pale in comparison to Doom Eternal with a 3080, or even a titan. Pro/Xbone X are the equivalent of a 960. I have a 960 myself, and though the difference is noticeable, it's not as shocking as going from a high end to Switch. The only thing that was really jarring for me was the FPS. Going from 60 to 30 kind of hurt my eyes initially, but you get used to the compromise very quickly.
Honestly imo, nothing can take the place of the original Doom 2016 for the switch, which is a remastered version of the original. I still crack up Doom 2016 and play it. I'm fact I had to go through great many hoops to acquire it again, because I sold it for cash. Since I acquired it again I have been playing it regularly and exploring the arcade mode and enjoying Doom even more.
The fact that I can play Doom Eternal, that looks and performs like that, all while I'm schlepping to and from work on the train...it boggles my mind. But it shouldn't, it wasn't all that long ago I was saying the same about Witcher.
kinda wish it started at a lower price since it took so long to get on switch, + all the graphics and framerate downgrades. it really needs a sale. also the fact they (most likely microsofts decision) jipped everyone out of a physical copy.

I played this game back in March on a PS4 Pro hooked up to a LG C9 OLED, so I've seen how incredible this game looks in high resolution at 60fps with amazing HDR... and honestly it's hard to look at the Switch version, even on my 5" phone screen, and be impressed. I get that the Switch is just a handheld, but at this point we've had multiple of these "impossible ports" and I am no longer wowed by these blurry low res games running on the Switch. Plus the game is 9 months late and double the price of the other versions, so unless you only have a Switch, you'd be a fool to pay $60 for this version of the game IMO... This game takes me back to the good old days of when PC gaming was kicking off. Apart from Quake, I remember playing a game where one of the difficulty settings was 'I want my mummy' Forgot the name of that game though.

The game is worth every penny at 100 dollars. The amount of extra resources that went into developing a switch port that works so well ......59.99 seems fine.
I want this game in a PHYSICAL Cartridge Developers! I own it on the PC already, but I want my Switch's DOOM on cartridge for the rest of time in case the eShop servers are ever shutdown! Well the game was already unbelievably well optimised and has a tiny CPU overhead. It's hardly a miracle to be honest.

I only have a switch and not a playstation or pc bc my living situation bought me to sleeping on a friends bedroom floor, so i have literally been waiting for this bitch to drop since march and avoided all story spoilers besides the soundtrack. Fml this better be worth it.

not having an option for a physical copy at the moment is truly heartbreaking.
It's amazing what Panic Button have done. Doom 2016 ran beautifully on my PC with 120fps and above, and when I fired up Doom Eternal, I was kind of expecting the same performance. But heck no, this game is far more advanced in terms of level complexity, enemy detail, body part- and gamplay systems and I had a hard time even reaching above 90fps. THIS is an amazing port. The only fault in my eyes is that game wasn't tailored more towards the switch (with lower poly models/stages) since they have been working side by side throughout development. It would've been great if they offered the option to use lower poly models and levels (this requires very little data since it is only vector data) as well as being able to disable the gib system and hence get better visual clarity.
Anyway. It's impressive. My hope is to be able to play it att full 720p handheld with a Switch revision in the future. :)
Man I really thought they weren't going to be able to do it, I was sure of it. The technical expertise required to make this work must be insane. Mad props.
Amazing. Simply amazing. The port is one of the greatest in the entire Switch Library. We are blessed to have this.

I know this is old now, but just picked up the deluxe edition on switch and have the standard version on xbox one x....all I can say is I'm blown away! This genuinely is so good on the oled in handheld! I'm actually enjoying it even more than on xbox! Graphically it's a masterpiece when you take into account how underpowered the switch is compared to xbox one x!

Panic Button pulled a miracle port this to the Switch at a stable 30 fps. If you have a Nintendo Switch and love first person shooters, get this asap

The day this will be released physical I will buy it immediately. But I won't pay money for a digital game. At least not more than 15 bucks. But for a physical version I would even pay 80 bucks if they use a 32GB cartridge and fit all of the game onto it.

I bought almost all of the DOOM franchise for switch on digital. What's wrong with digital? You don't lose it as easily. The only physical advantage is you can return it if you don't like it.

Today March 30th 2024, saw this game on sale on the e-shop, didn’t even hesitate to download it.
Surprised this turned out as well as it seems. Really disappointed there's no physical release. I already have way more digital content than can fit on my switch ± sd card.

This is honestly a big relief. With zero news on Doom for Switch for months I was worried this'll be another Outer Worlds. But while the quality looks bad. It looks playable which is downright impressive.

This is half the reason I bought the Switch. The other half was for Alien: Isolation, which is better suited to the Switch because of the save stations. Absolutely brilliant.
I am sooo disappointed that this didn't get a physical release. I understand why, and I'm not mad at the devs, but I intentionally waited to get this on the Switch, but I absolutely refuse to pay full price for a digital game.

@Steven Browning Yeah true, but for a shitty little tablet like the Switch this looks great.
It looks really downgraded on tablet, but docked it's really not that bad if you have a middling graphics card on PC. Compared to high end, yeah, you're sacrificing a lot. But in all fairness even PS4 Pro and Xbone X version pale in comparison to Doom Eternal with a 3080, or even a titan. Pro/Xbone X are the equivalent of a 960. I have a 960 myself, and though the difference is noticeable, it's not as shocking as going from a high end to Switch.
The only thing that was really jarring for me was the FPS. Going from 60 to 30 kind of hurt my eyes initially, but you get used to the compromise very quickly.
Honestly imo, nothing can take the place of the original Doom 2016 for the switch, which is a remastered version of the original. I still crack up Doom 2016 and play it. I'm fact I had to go through great many hoops to acquire it again, because I sold it for cash. Since I acquired it again I have been playing it regularly and exploring the arcade mode and enjoying Doom even more.
The fact that I can play Doom Eternal, that looks and performs like that, all while I'm schlepping to and from work on the train...it boggles my mind. But it shouldn't, it wasn't all that long ago I was saying the same about Witcher.
I'll pick it up when the price is what I was paying for my physical pre-order.

I played this game back in March on a PS4 Pro hooked up to a LG C9 OLED, so I've seen how incredible this game looks in high resolution at 60fps with amazing HDR... and honestly it's hard to look at the Switch version, even on my 5" phone screen, and be impressed. I get that the Switch is just a handheld, but at this point we've had multiple of these "impossible ports" and I am no longer wowed by these blurry low res games running on the Switch. Plus the game is 9 months late and double the price of the other versions, so unless you only have a Switch, you'd be a fool to pay $60 for this version of the game IMO... But anyway, great review as usual Mark! Keep yo the good work guys!

This game takes me back to the good old days of when PC gaming was kicking off. Apart from Quake, I remember playing a game where one of the difficulty settings was 'I want my mummy' Forgot the name of that game though.

I remember buying fifa 20 on switch for like 5 dollars when I was gonna get 18 for 15dollars. And when I started 20 up its literally the console version of fifa 17-18 but with a dash of paint to cover up the flaking years old paint job. So disappointed in ea I haven't even bought a fifa since fifa 18 came out

The game is worth every penny at 100 dollars. The amount of extra resources that went into developing a switch port that works so well ......59.99 seems fine.
I want this game in a PHYSICAL Cartridge Developers! I own it on the PC already, but I want my Switch's DOOM on cartridge for the rest of time in case the eShop servers are ever shutdown! Make it available with all the DLC on one of Nintendo's larger Cartridges and THEN you'll earn that coveted '2nd sale'! Awesome Review SwitchUp!
