Doom (2016) and Titanfall 2 are something out of the general FPS games, they tried something different, unique and did it it right! Both those games took me by complete surprise each individually
If you like those you should try Prodeus :the kingdom between.
What happend to TitanFall 2 is one of the biggest prooves how bad EA with their intellectual properties.

Actually, stealth games usually have reactive soundtracks: different music per level per enemy awareness state. Take Splinter Cell for example: you start with a mysterious sneaky theme song at the start of the level, but then if you alert someone, the theme changes to something more ominous to build up the tension. You can feel your heart beat as the enemy gets closer and closer to discovering you, and then BAM! The music changes to an action theme because they've finally discovered your existence and have started to gun you down.
But to hear DOOM take reactive soundtrack to the level it did, with a pure action, stealth-less game, that was next-level shit. I loved it.

There are no cover mechanics in Doom 2016. There is no cover, which is unfortunate if you're a demon.

There is plenty of cover. You move in and out of it seamlessly, instead of hugging it. You don't block or hide from attacks, you dodge.

I think as an achievement hunter, the hundreds of games I've played, I'm truly impressed that they somehow made the game based on moving around to survive, ESPECIALLY ON HIGHER DIFFICULTIES... it's insane to think that a high difficulty asks you to rush around and kill instead of take it slow is absolutely amazing.

You tipped me over the edge and made me buy this game in 2022, shortly after discovering your channel. The game's feel activates the nostalgia center of my brain. I can't remember being able to move so fast in an FPS game since HL2 and its deathmatch multiplayer. It feels good knowing once I'm done with 2016 Doom, Doom Eternal is ready to go. It's so rare to see AAA games just absolutely nail it these days, much less after a 12-year hiatus.

Doom 2016 solidified my love for fps games and I remember being in a party chat with my friends and being like “wtf is this” and then all saying “ yeah it’s just a different type of game” is imprinted on my mind. And all thanks to my aunt who probably had no idea what she gave my 12 year old mind

If only DOOM Eternal took this exact idea to heart. Awesome gameplay aside, DOOM Eternal did exactly that, it tried to force a lore-filled story in every single mission to the point where the locations didn't even look like they were from the same franchise.
gotta admit i loved urdak. legit was just sitting there in awe when i saw it... since theres no demons there when u first arrive i legit just sat there and looked at this place that is supposed to be "heaven"
The reason eternal's locations were so different is because they tried to give it that more arcade game feel, which is why there is so many more bright colors, it's more fast paced, and more traversals compared to a full level on constant combat. It was definitely weird after playing the darker doom 2016.

But 2016 without the bad ammo economy and more constant action without certain demons that break the flow like Marauder just feels so much better

Story gamers like me really enjoy the story aspect of doom eternal and is super glad they decided to go more into the story. 1993 is gone. People do want a narrative now.

One of the best aspects is that the demons remember you from all those years ago playing Doom. But now, they've learned to be scared to shitless of you.

If I remember correctly with Doom 2016, exploration can also reward you with obtaining some weapons earlier than you would normally like the Plasma Rifle and the Heavy Assault Rifle
Plasma rifle, super shotgun, rocket launcher, gauss canon and chain gun cab all be unlocked early in 2016!
When the Doom Slayer is backed into a corner he has two options

B. If that dont work...use more gun

You are very intuitive about what it takes to have an actual good video game and your attention to detail when reviewing a game thoroughly is unreal. I've come to know doom for what doom 3. I prefer the horror aspect of it more than the action packed slaughterhouse, not saying that's a bad thing. Honestly you can go through doom 3 like the other doom games if you go quickly enough. It's just that it's slowed down by PDA door code shit and story.

What I also love about both doom games (and a lot of other games too but mainly doom) is the very rhythmic animation style. Simply putting a key into a lock and turning it has these different jolts to the animation that has this “1,2,3” kinda rhythm and feel to it. Idk I guess it makes it line up with the music more I just really like it (bioshock does a similar thing)
It also emphasized the Doomslayers methodic way of doing things, you see him think of an action, prepare for the action and take that action in the 1 2 3 rhythm.
He sees the argent cel, moves to grab it and crushes it, he sees the fuel source, lifts his leg, and kicks the shit out of it.
It keeps the music going at it were
2016 doom was without question the most entertaining and satisfying gaming experience I have had since Skyrim (shit Skyrim turns ten this year. man time flies ). thank you for the Doom game. It got me through the covid pandemic. Edit for reference and clearity I finally got this in mid 2020

There is 2 flaws with doom 1: you can turn off the best soundtrack ever 2 :there's no option to turn up the volume past 100

What an amazing review. I agree with EVERYTHING you said here wholeheartedly. In fact, I hadn't been able to get back into gaming since the days of UT2004. I thought my days enjoying gaming were over.
Then I got Doom 2016. I did not believe it could be possible to make a game this good, let alone the fact I was playing it. It literally blew my mind. In one week I completed Doom 2016. As soon as I finished the game I wrote an e-mail to Hugo Martin explaining how grateful I was for what him and the team had managed to do.
This game gives me hope for my future enjoyment of games. I thought I had changed at first, that somehow I couldn't enjoy games and more despite there being so many that "looked" great. But when I played Doom 2016, no, I realised I hadn't changed at all. The games had. But that there are still developers out there who aren't afraid to look at gaming history and make games that are genuinely better than those that came before, not just games that are different for the sake of different.
I'm putting it out there. Doom 2016 has the BEST game play of any game, ever, period. The bar has been raised, the standard set.
I eagerly await to see what proceeds it.

When I played this game, I fell in love with it, and when I showed my dad who played the original Dooms to death, he was honestly overjoyed that I was having as much fun as he did with the originals.
When I made it to the BFG labs, I saw the sign and immediately paused the game and waited for him to get home from work so we could experience the monumental moment of getting the BFG for the first time together. Id Software, I will love you forever.

Dude that scene where you were doing the cinematic right after you start the game reminds me so much of what I remember old school Avgn doing back when his stuff was good. Reminded me of that in a good way.
Replaying Doom is like relistening to a favorite album... It never gets old and you notice and enjoy something different every time.
I showed my dad this games sound track, I told him I was playing Doom and he was like "Alright that's cool, I didn't know they made a new game. It's been like what? 20 years?" I said "Yeah, you'll like the soundtrack too. It's perfect for the game." He said "Let me hear it." I played him one song and he bought the entire soundtrack the next day.
