I remember Mason's video from late 2021 or early 2022 showing the dirty deal one of his distributors was offering: scores of Fusion Strike boxes just to get a pittance of other boxes. Buy it cheap, stack it deep. =p

I'm an MTG guy who only dabbles in Pokemon because my son collects it. Question: Why are Evolving Skies ETBs so much cheaper than booster boxes in terms of per-pack pricing? I get that a booster box is an inherently collectable item, and thus there's somewhat of premium. But we're looking at almost a 200% premium per pack. That seems too skewed. Is the ETB being overlooked? Or is the booster box just THAT much of a chase item?
space premium. A case of etbs is 10 of them, its got a lot of air gap in it, takes up so much room. Has things besides packs in it that take up space too. A boosterbox is pure packs. In addition we have seen ETBs hitting store shelves up until roughly the end of 2023. So the collectors looking to have the etb collection have what they want. Sealed has a weird factor to it where for the display value they have a premium that frankly doesn't make sense when considering the cards inside. Its more about how many etbs are out there and there are more than the booster boxes. The last time the booster box was printed was a hefty wave back in 2021 or 2022 I forget the exact year, but yeah, theyve been dry for over a year longer than the booster boxes. Plus I think people also are splitting the ETB market between them and the pokemon center versions. I collect those ones, and despite their far more limited quantity, they aren't performing quite like the booster boxes.
The price difference is due to their being a larger supply of ETB's than the booster boxes... take into account that practically any "collector/investor" in the U.S. can frequently stop by a Walmart or Target location, which neither sell booster boxes. Only some people can stop by an LGS, which is the only physical location booster boxes could have been purchased.
More so, with the price per pack being as high as it is, the majority of people buying sealed ES products these days aren't planning on opening them...thus the price per pack is not something they factor into their purchase decision.
It is irrational to the point of being bothersome, as are many other aspects of this hobby... PSA 10 vs. CGC 10...PSA premium... as another example of something that doesn't make sense.

Because Pokemon Center isn't one of thousands of LGSs asking their distributors for more of it.
i was able to buy a moonbreon yesterday for 500 and i thought that was a deal. its now or never imo because the box is hitting over 600 and climbing. the pull rates are horrible. people thought umbreon at 300 was gonna crash. i wont be shocked if in 3 years a box of evo skies is 1500+ with umbreon raw sitting around 800 dollars.

Sadly, 2 top Pokemon CCs (1 even said he was fomo'ing) fomo'd/hyped Chilling Reign; latr Fusion Strike, based on a reddit board. I was buying CR at $90 easy but after these 2 vids, it went up to $100 in a week and then eventually stopped about the $145/box due to pokectr still having them. Fusion Strike soon followed same path even though it was mentioned in a slight negative way. Then Battle Styles started moving which made no sense at all and that it why it has dropped back down cuz it should never have moved up but we all know how hype & fomo get manipulated via some videos.
