  • How to service the Filter / Pressure regulator, yes its a bit silly they the items are combined
this is the same for the BMW F650CS F650GS Dakar G650GS and Sertao Fuel injection models.
it took me about 1 hour it could have been like 15 mins if bmw did not make you take apart one side of the bike to get to that nut

Those are Oetiker type clamps (also called "ear" clamps) and make securing the hose precise and incredibly fast. You won't struggle with clamp rotation or tool positioning by using them. You can buy assorted clamps and a plier very cheap online.

    Nive vid mate!
I bought a Sertao last year with 2000klms and just recently those hose clamps have failed, so I'm changing the regulator also just for peace of mind on a 2012 model. Keeps blowing fuel pump fuse which I'm hoping the leaking lines and regulator have something to do with that also as I have checked all wires and contuity and it seems fine.

Got a tiny fuel leak yesterday and needed to tighten a damn host clamp, did the process of detaching the filter/regulator, but it got me thinking - this is a bike made for touring and how much do I NOT want to have to do anything to it on the side of the road. What were they thinking when designing it...

If you remove the fuse for the fuel pump and start the bike it will de-pressurise the fuel lines.

it dose on the fuel lines but not on the pressure regulator

105,000 km first time that I’ve had a problem. Though I’ve only been servicing it the last 50,000. But coughed and farted for 100 km then died. 1 km from home. In tank pump still works so checked the screen. Watch this to see if this is a filter/ pressure reg or just a regulator.

Thanks for the video, I think mines of its way out as the bikes taking about 5 turned to get it to start but once runnig for couple mins starts on the button. Do you reckon this is a sign of the regulator on its way out?

Years has more to do with them failing than miles . I had to change one on another bike a 4,000 miles . I don't ride very far every year so I had a 1998 year bike with only 4,000 miles on it . What happens over time is the junk in the gas fills up the filter and puts a coating that turns hard and blocks the gas from passing . At 4,000 miles the bike stop starting because it wasn't pumping any gas at all . I would go by years not miles . I think they should be changed every 10 years no matter how many miles is on the bike or 24,000 what ever comes first .
