In Finland We Have This Thing Called... Rallienglanti

- Finnish is notoriously difficult for foreigners to learn and speak. Mostly because of our "strange" sounds and grammar. Actually Finnish is quite easy to pronounce, when you understand that you pronounce the words exactly as they are written, no exceptions. (Grammar is a totally different beast which we will tackle in a later video)
This is what makes English very difficult for Finns to speak, because of all the exceptions and quirky rules. Finns would like to pronounce the words exactly as they are written, but no, English has a score to settle with us Finns. (And yes, we are aware that English is spoken by other people than the people living in England, but for the sake of dramatic effect, this is how we chose o portray the "English") ;-)
That is why when Finns are forced to speak English, especially athletes after a performance, you get these quite funny interviews where you clearly hear the athlete struggling. And thus “Rallienglanti” has emerged.
Which are your favourite pronunciations, athletes or interviews infused with rallienglanti?

In Holland we have Steenkoolengels (Hiilienglanti) which has its origin in the mining industry. But now used to describe the English you might hear in sports interviews (where the poor sportsman is forced to talk english by the sponsor) and in lectures by Dutch professors talking to a class of international students.
I know I'm late to the party, but I speak ENGLish because I'm from ENGLand .... I love Rallienglati - it's a great gift to the English language from Finland :)
Rallienglanti, now my next fluent language 😀
So basically anything with Tommi Mäkinen 😁

As a german, I like rallieenglanti, because most of my people also got a strong accent. 😁 👍
The German English accent is kinda cool too =)
Wow, I live in Finland since a year and I have no problem with understanding rallienglanti anymore 🤭
Turkish has also this, and because of this, I can understand what my Finnish friends say. :D
yeah you are mongols from beginning, and mixed with other races

My grandparents, who came to America from Finland, spoke in a manner not unlike this.
It’s amazing hearing your english accent then suddenly shifting it to rallienglanti! haha you’re amazing. By the way I’ve been in finland in 6 months now and I am loving it. 😇❤️

Aaltonen, Mäkinen, Alén, Vatanen, Häkkinen, Räikkönen, Grönholm ...
Ai foorgat ö hjuuts bunts
I understood that perfectly. Just sounds like the hydraulic press guy
I used to volunteer as an official at Rally Australia in Perth, at the peak of Tommi Mäkinen's career. The first stage was always a very short (2.2 km) Super Special (SS) stage in front of a stadium (temporary, such as Langley Park, or permanent, such as Gloucester Park) on a specially constructed two lane track with a bridge/tunnel crossover that two drivers would attack at the same time and finish in a side by side "drag race". There was an on-course (and also television) commentator that had a personality that was very annoying to me, somewhat like a stereotypical "breakfast radio" presenter, so he must have driven the Finns crazy. He would interview key drivers shortly before the racing began. One of the questions he would always ask the drivers is what would their tactics be for this SS stage. I found this inane, annoying and rude (it's a sprint and the only stage of the day, so there is no need to conserve energy or the car!), so I always felt sorry for the drivers, imagining that they would not have enjoyed being "put on the spot" in front of a crowd and given such a silly question to answer instead of something better planned to give them an opportunity to say something of value or entertainment to their fans. If I am to be generous, I will admit that this single stage would determine the running order for the first full day, to be conducted on our unique ball bearing laterite gravel forestry and fire roads (I remember watching with fascination as a tyre technician used a hot iron to cut wider slots into the tyres after the team had inspected the stages), which is at it's fastest perhaps four to six cars down the order, after the lead cars have swept the loose gravel from the surface and before ruts have developed too deeply. However, no elite driver is going to take such a short stage easily in front of their fans, especially when it could easily result in them starting 25th on every stage the following day and having to contend with a much rougher, rutted surface than their competition all day. Therefore, I would feel a little embarrassed as this interviewer would ask Tommi Mäkinen, "So, Tommi. What will be your tactics for this Super Special stage?". To understand the interviewer's demeanour, imagine a dirty puppy jumping on you as he asks. Mäkinen would invariably answer, in a tone so flat that even Finns might wonder if he is feeling okay, "I'm going to be driving flat out" (I will not try to spell it phonetically - you can imagine better than I can explain the rallienglati but the end seemed a little drawn out). I loved his response so much - the perfect answer, giving the question as little respect as it deserved! A friend and I still joke about this more than 15 years later (I found out that he was also a volunteer official on a different part of the site and heard the interviews over the PA system), as recently as last week.
In finland we have this feeling "vittu mitä paskaa"
In Finland we have this thing called "tee paremmin ite" ;-)
This is just Kimi Räikönnen
Kimi's Rallienglanti is pretty good, but he is definitely not the only one, and not even the first one. BWOAH! ;-)
F1 is like the next generation. Rallienglanti started in the 50's-60's - check Rauno Aaltonen, Mini Cooper
Aaltonen, Mäkinen, Alén, Vatanen, Häkkinen, Räikkönen, Grönholm ... F1 is still in minority.
Now with the younger Rovanperä we have a risk that the school has taught him proper English.
But if he skipped enough of English lessons to be in the car (CZcams has clips of him driving on snow and ice when he was 10, or younger),
his rallienglanti may be authentic.
This will be my YT home country.
Is it bad I understood everything he said
Hello and welcome to the hydraulic press channel
ソ・ディス・イズ・ライク・ジャパニーズ・イングリッシュ。。。
considering the crazy regional dialects that exist across Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and England, not to mention in the former colonies of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA, this didn't actually come across as difficult to understand at all. What really threw me for a loop was seeing the Finnish spelling

Sorry, but the _Rallienglanti_ should be the default English pronunciation. It would make our non-native life far easier. Thank you, Finnland.
