About 'The Luxor Obelisk and Its Voyage to Paris'
Transporting the Luxor obelisk from Egypt to Paris was one of the great engineering triumphs of the early nineteenth century. No obelisk this size (two hundred and fifty tons) had left Egypt in nearly two thousand years, and the task of bringing it fell to a young engineer, Apollinaire Lebas, a man of extraordinary resolve and ability. His is a tale of adventure, excitement, and drama, but one hardly known to the English-speaking world. Now this first-ever translation of Lebas’ account, including digitally enhanced copies of his beautiful drawings, makes his remarkable story available to a wide audience.
    About Dr. Bob Brier
Dr. Bob Brier is a Senior Research Fellow at C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University. He is recognized as one of the world’s foremost Egyptologists. As Senior Research Fellow at the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, he conducts pioneering research in mummification practices and has investigated some of the world’s most famous mummies, including King Tut, Vladimir Lenin, Ramses the Great, Eva Peron (Evita), Marquise Tai (Chinese noblewoman), and the Medici family of Renaissance Italy. In 1994 Dr. Brier became the first person in 2,000 years to mummify a human cadaver using the exact techniques of the ancient Egyptians. This research was the subject of a National Geographic TV special titled “Mr. Mummy.” He was the host of several award-winning television specials for TLC, including “Pyramids, Mummies & Tombs” and “Mummy Detective.” More recently, National Geographic TV presented his research in a documentary called “Secret of the Great Pyramid” discussing a new theory of how the Great Pyramid of Giza was built. Dr. Brier’s research has been featured in such media venues as CNN, 60 Minutes, and The New York Times.

I like Brier's point about whether the Egyptians could have succeeded in moving the unfinished obelisk even if it hadn't cracked. As super human as their feats appear, even they had limitations. Probably bit off more than they could chew.

The obelisks were basically giant billboards proclaiming the name and titles of the pharaoh who erected them. I would guess they were brilliantly painted so the inscription could be easily seen.

that's the standard superficial meaning that modern day 'advanced' civilisation gives them from it's superficial view point... nothing to do with their real meaning which is explained through the writings of Jakob Lorber.

It's a very interesting bit of history - well, done! At the same time - one must admit that its also a bit of unpleasant history to understand the ransacking of Egyptian antiquities - and the disgrace that Egypt had become at that point. Finally - I have this to offer - control your own slide shows - they tend to go better :)

MAYBE the workers cracked it on purpose! ...so they don't have to move it.

The Romans had a lot of slaves, so that probably helped with moving the obelisks.

I don't believe the story behind why this particular obelisk survived. I surmise the mystery religions took over the Catholic Church prior to that time it was placed. Each obelisk which stands outside of Egypt seems to symbolize a unity of vision....

I really still have a lot of respect for him but can we still believe everything that the egyptologists are telling us ? I do not think so . The are so many questions to be answered. The so called TOOLS could not do this . If so there must have been millions of slaves and we are being told there were NO Slaves in Egypt ! Millons must have died to to create these amazing structures . There is no getting around this . Something is missing in the story of ancient Egypt . Im trying NOT to put my tin hat on . 😂
