    Not a bad video / but there are a few things I would like to teach ALL newcomers to the business / #1 - Hidden Hangers / there good if used in the right place / it is NOT the strongest hanger that is made and is not good for areas where it snows / I noticed pine trees in the background so I'm going to assume it snows there / for the best hangers for a snow area / go to Lynch Aluminum and have them send you a sample of the " Heavy Duty Brute Hanger with the Strap" I don't think you will be able to find a better hanger ANYWHERE / he also shows putting the screw (of the Hidden Hanger) into the gutter before he hangs it / I would not do that / if the screw is sticking out even just a 1/4 inch past the back / the gutter will get caught up on the fascia board while it's being installed / when the gutter is in place / then put the screw in / he also shows a few ways to install a end cap / I do like it when he talks about the cap coming off if you do nothing / do not put screws in the end caps / just looks bad / use the tool " end cap crimper" looks much better / pops are OK but it takes much longer to install / lets move to the outlet cups / the way he shows will work but there are 2 faster ways that look and work much better / first is a hole saw / ALL gutter supply house's carry them / a 2-3/8 inch or a bigger one a 3 inch hole saw / just cut the hole where you need it to be and drop your outlet cup down and it's done / 2nd way to make a hole in the gutter for a downspout is a downspout punch / thay cost a bit but if you do not lose it / the tool will last you the rest of your life / mine is going on 50 years old / lastly is the caulking / I personaly do not like calking in what looks like a tooth paste tube but that is just me / I like a real caulking tube that fits into a caulking gun / and my caulking of choice is the Geocel brand / caulking is just a matter of choice / most work good / Geocel has NEVER let me down since 1977 / so that is it for now on how to install what you just saw / you can go to my website at / www.RainGuttersByRock.com / and just a bit of advice to ALL of you Pros out there / STOP doing bids for FREE / my website says wright on it / I'm not the cheapest but I do think I'm the best, and I charge $20 for a bid / I have only had (2) people tell me NO since 2012 / all the rest pay me my $20. you can also read about some of my ideas in Gutter Enterprise / which might be the ONLY Gutter Magazine that is printed today / also look up my ( Cost Calculator in the Jan/Feb issue on page 20 ) / it will save you from running out to each and everyone who calls you / some just want a price and then like to think about things / it's a really helpful tool / copy it if you want / I'm giving it out to the gutter world / use it.
    Thanks for reading this / and no hate emails please / all the advice I'm putting out here is from 50 years of installing / there just the way I do things / pick your own path / Thanks Again / Rock.

    Hi.It has been so long since i made gutter I started a Bus.in Italy around 1987 just south of Rome..When i started there was another guy in southern Italy.There was only two of us making gutter for about 5 years here in Italy.Before us they made gutter in galvanize steel in 4 meter length with benders. I started with two machines made by Knudson out of Colorado. One used of 25 cm wide coils and one 38 cm. Around 1993 i had an american mfg make me a bigger machine that used 50 cm wide coils.The guy in southern Italy made down tubes and elbow,i made brackets,end caps etc,we would exchange products. In late 1998 i got tired in making thousand and thousand of meter of gutter.Sold the business and retired. I had two trucks one had the 25 cm and the 38 cm side by side.The other truck had the 50 cm,We would go on site cut and drop and do the installing later,or we would outsource the installation.Ciao from 70 miles south east of Rome Italy

    I've been installing gutter for a little more than 2 years. We space our hangers out a little bit further than 2 ft and we haven't had any issues so far and the only other thing we do different is we don't hook the hanger onto the back of the gutter. We just leave it inside the gutter and shoot through the back into the fascia. When we put on our end caps we use cramps instead of screws but the way you do it works just as well. Can I put my downspouts up I don't use a drop outlet. I trace the perimeter of the elbow into the bottom of the gutter then I cut a x through the middle of it and fold the tabs down and it's just a lot faster and it saves money on material and overhead. I use drop outlets only when I'm putting drop outlets on structural gutter when we build pool enclosures or poly roofs

I would not do that tho. The other option is have your supply house load it on the machine. or what i did was use an engine hoist for a while.

    • @CertitudeHI
      @CertitudeHI  Před 2 lety +1

      This is in a doge promaster 2500 high top (not sure about the wheel base but it the biggest one they make) I can load the machine through the side door. On this machine I have 2 spools to hold coils. Once is set for 6" and the other is for 5" coils. If u do this type of setup make sure u purchase a transfer bar (its basically a bar that allow you to put a coil on the bar and slide or roll it to the front spool and vice versa.
      We chose to put it in this van because it was a vehicle we had sitting around and it worked great. That said you would be good with a trailer if you cant dedicate a truck to the machine. Make sure the trailers dimensions will fit the machine and make sure it will hold the weight and that you truck can pull the trailer loaded with coils and machine weight. I think you would need a 2500 with a beefed up suspension or a 3500. Dont use a 1500 it will blow up.

Not that they are bad but round gutters are a little easier to clean due to the lack of edges. I'm willing to pay a premium for that little bit of convenience. yes, I know that all gutters require maintenance. neglected gutters will go bad quickly.

    • @CertitudeHI
      @CertitudeHI  Před 2 lety

      Yes ...its most likely going to be hard to find a place that offers them seamless in half round (the machine can cost around 40k) so there are few places that offer that service...We offer it however don't own the machine ...we sub it to a company that just runs these out of a truck. We don't have a huge demand for Half rounds so it makes sense to do it this way for us.

    I don’t recommend the hangers in the video the screw has no washer we see so many homes with rooted wood because of those hangers use The same screws they use for metal roofing their metal to wood and have a rubber washer that’s waterproof

    • @CertitudeHI
      @CertitudeHI  Před 3 lety +1

      We have never had the issue of the wood rotting because it doesn't have a washer....Most roofs have a drip edging that goes on top of the gutter and over the hanger to protect water from getting into the hanger screw and to allow for proper flow of water into the gutter not behind it. Send us a link to what hanger you use...we are interested regardless...we always look to better the materials we offer.

      I throw all the hangers like that I come across in the trash. I find too many of the screws broken. Clipping the hanger on the back of the gutter adds it's own complications and I never do it. I'm not at all interested in hanging fast I want it to hang tight. Therefore when I got to know Hangtite hangers from Raytec and in fact won't do a gutter job without them. When I was done with my last job I invited the customer, the owner of the lumber yard out and told him that right then I'd hang off my gutter and if it fails I have nothing to charge him for. Huh I just figured out how to make the oval outlet hole that comes with a Mason cover. no, no I didn't I throw them away too and use a 2 3/8 outlet and instead of wasting all this time cutting a hole I'll stick to using my hole saw and be home eating supper before this guy's done fucking around.

      Wouldn't the washer just seal where the screw contacts the metal on the hanger istself? I mean with the type of hanger that clips on, and requires you to fish the smaller screws out of your pouch, hold it in place to get it started, and then drive it in, im not talking about the ones in the video that come pee inserted into the hanger. So as far as the part that the back a sees, is at not exactly the same? The part in the facia is the threads on the back side of gutter, after it has passed through the hanger, and then the back of gutter. So wouldn't the facia see the exact same thing regardless of which screw, or hanger you used? The neoprene would just seal the surface it was in contact with. Also aluminum is pretty soft, seems like a screw holding tight aluminum to wood would make a pretty water tight seal as well. Especially on a vertical surface. And then 2 more points, the hangers in the video are bent around into a tube that the screw loosely passes through, and the screw is like 3" long. That tube, along with the bull nose in front, and the bend upand over the back make a noticeably stronger hanger. Ho could it not? More bends, especially loose bends make stronger sheet metal. Right? That much longer screw which is steel, also holds tighter, and does have a flange built in making it grip that hanger tighter than your scout leader when you were his special assistant that unforgettable summer. It also keeps the head out front of where the shingles overhang, so water is not dripping right on the head. The other hangers with a 1" overhang, and a hex head screw leave about 3/4 inch over the screws im sure water could drip back on them a bit, though I can't seen it causing too much a problem. somebbozos hang the shingles over 2 knuckles which causes them to droop into gutters, looks teriible, leaves little room for your hand to clean them, and on retrofits, causes careless instalers to break the shingles trying to get a screw drive underneath. Exaserbated with the older style hanger. Could the leaks you are seeing be caused by something else? Like 4' apart hangers sometimes cause the bAck of gutter to fishmouth, and form a pocket where shingles drain behind the guttdr? Some regional practices are to hang with no facia. This is a similar situation to 4' apatlrt. Obviously won't rot facia if one don't exist, but tails? Also sometimes roofsrsninstall new con before facia, then facia is installed and shingles no longer hang over. Problematic. Ive only Biden doing gutter a few years, but ive been roofing for 30, and been a roofing contractor for 14. Ive never den the problem you speak of with these hangers. In my opinion they are the cats aSs. I havnt ever seen a problem with the ones you are talking about either. With or without gromets. Spikes and ferrules, ive seen on any roof that has them, as I pretty well only do resedemtial reroofs, and only install gutters on homes in reroif. Never new construction. I can charge much higher prices, and gide the cost in the overall roof quote, and customers are happy as regardless my prices for roof+ gutter is still much lower than most others roof only, and everything gets done in one shot, at same time. It could be you are in a much damper climate than I am as well. Im about 30 miles west of Seattle, so pretty arid in these parts

    • @CertitudeHI
      @CertitudeHI  Před 2 lety +2

      5k holds 1.2 gallon of water per ft and 6K holds 2 gallons of water per ft this is a 60 to 70% increase of water per ft. Really the style of roof (shingle/metal/cedar) and the Pitch of the roof (low slope vs steep pitch) and the length of the roof ( 1ft vs 60ft or more) and the roof material overhang (1/2" vs 3" plus) and the size of the fascia board (4" vs 12" plus) all determine if you need a 5" or 6" gutter. You can get all nerdy or just go bigger...to cover your ass.

    Had a guy come out with a similar machine. Installed gutters galvanized, 6 inch, on standing seam metal roof, ranch style home, straight 55ft front and back. Simple?
    The bottom of the gutters look like the ocean … wave after wave. 30 crumply waves on bottom of gutter out front, and 21 waves on back roof gutter bottom.

      Not all the machines are capable of bending Galvanized metal...the machine in the video does. It is also possible that the machine they had was not tuned up or needed some work done to it. As with any workmanship issue when the company wont respond and has disappeared you are screwed. Its an unfortunate hard thing to hear but u can live with ugly gutters...which most likely work fine...or have them replaced by someone that has lots of online reviews... that are 4 star or more on google...this sucks...I hope that helps even though I am sure you didn't want that answer. If you get a used Promaster 2500 high top with the 169 wheel base with like 75k miles it would run you about 20k based on the year....The machine itself is about 14k then add the accessories, transfer bar and 2 coil holders which will be around 1k ...then you need to get a generator that at least is a 5000watt to run the 6k gutter coil (1k) through the machine and then get 2 coils one 5k and 6k which ($1400.00) and then get hangers end caps and all that stuff ($1k) ...and you will need an engine hoist ($400) or a fork lift to put the coils on and off the truck...a used fork lift can be about 4k to 8k based on the model you will only need a 3000lb rated fork lift...we have an propane one but now you can get full battery ones.
      All in to be up and running I would have at least 35 to 40k for a gutter truck setup.
      If you have the sales and sell jobs at a 50% profit margin...it should pay for itself if you produce $80,000 worth of gutter installs.

      A bit late, but don't believe a word they say about pay. That's the pay (probably) for an entire crew and if you can do 2-3 jobs a day...also very unlikely. I did their leaf filter installs and was told 500 a day...yeah that's if you can somehow manage to do three jobs a day that included full cleaning, resealing joints and then install with a bunch of extra hangers installed as well. Each job ended up taking about 4-5 hours with all their extra bullshit, photos, paper work, and installing all the extra hangers equalling about one hanger per foot.
      I'd like to hear your experience. There is something to be made but it's far less than what they hook you in with. There's also something to be said about a company that provides jobs...but they are very sketchy about pay per job...please let me know because I considered approaching them with "I have the extruder, but no crew. I will churn out the product for x dollars flat fee and move on but I will not install...just extrude and go to the next job." Something like 300-500 per job. Let me know if you worked for them.
