Welcome back to Screen Rant! From theme parks to movies and television shows, Disney is a worldwide behemoth, reaching audiences from all different countries. Broadcasting shows like Gravity Falls isn’t as simple as beaming out the same episode to different audiences, though. The episodes shown outside the United States may have some subtle and some not-so-subtle changes based on censorship, language barriers, and acceptable broadcast content.
Throughout both seasons of Gravity Falls, there have been several edits, including some surprising choices and even some alternate names for Mabel’s beloved pet pig Waddles! So let’s enter the Mystery Shack and see what’s in store. s the sibling duo uncovers multiple secrets, they come across newspaper headlines and clippings. One of the biggest reveals is the headline which reads “Stan Pines Dead”. There’s clearly something Stan has been hiding and the dramatic headline drives this point home. Only -- if you were watching in Latin America, the headline would be slightly less dramatic. The Fez Stan Pines wears typically has a symbol on it, which looks like a mix between a fish design or some type of riff on Pac-Man. The whole design is really based off a group known as the Shriners. The group was formerly known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and is a society of members known for wearing their signature Fez hats. Two different episodes use the word and it is edited out of several international versions of the show. The first example is found in the episode “The Deep End”. The minor/miner gag doesn't make sense in other languages, because the words don't sound the same. That's probably why it was cut.

Actually, the “Stan Pines dead” stays the same here in Brazil, but they do omit the fact that Bill Cipher is a demon. When Gideon says “listen to me, demon” in english, the portuguese version simply says “listen to me”, for instance.

Pretty sure "Miners" was cut because it doesn't have a dual meaning in other languages. The joke would make no sense to non-English speaking countries, since minor and miner are likely different sounding words with no relation.
Also the part when Dipper shows Wendy his mark. In English it makes sense since Dipper doesn't sound like a weird nickname, but in my language Big Dipper is literally called "Great wagon'. Can you imagine all the characters calling him the Great Wagon all summer? 💀 That's why I like watching American/English stuff in the original language, you come across a lot of jokes you missed and it's like special easter eggs

I don't think so. They said that the symbol was removed from most episodes. It was probably in the cipher wheel in all episodes and in weirdmageddon.
But the symbols represent the specific character. If Stan does not have the symbol on his fez then how does that episode work?

Actually they only cut the symbol from the first season. Since "Boss Mabel" they changed the symbol a bit , so that other countrys don't have to remove it.

The guards in Gideon Rising were most likely just paralyzed. The area the gnomes hit is just around the place on the spine that enables movement. For example, that episode of Rick and Morty where the car must “Keep Summer Safe”, and shoots a laser into a guys back which paralyses him. A similar action probably happened to the guards, just with gnome hats instead of lasers

Hello, im from Mexico where the name of Waddles is also Pato (Duck). This is a deeper joke than you thought:
Waddle means: To walk with short steps while moving the whole body which is the way ducks walk.

The Zombie episode from season 2 if I remember correctly, wasn't shown in Sweden. I sat there waiting for the first episode to air, and they showed episode 2, so I don't remember if they aired the first episode later on or not.
But Into The Bunker was shown on multiple occasions and was never cut down or anything. It was left as it was. I have nothing against it tho.
Also the well known "I GOT SOME CHILDREN I NEED TO MAKE INTO CORPSES!" was translated to "I have to cach two children" or something simmilar in the greek dub

I'm French and watched the show in english but after seeing your video I was curious about how my country called Waddles.
His french name is Dandinou.
Dandiner is a verb meaning "to waddle", and the "ou" at the end makes it cute, so basically he's still called Waddles. But it sounds really silly in french!

Outdated traditions, and their equally outdated adherents are.
If a show can be viewed as is by kids in one country without negative effects, it likely could everywhere.
Can't imagine the adults who are applying the censorships never did things they where technically considered too young for by their elders when they where kids, and now as the older generation have literally always done, they want to place the same restrictions they themselves hated (and ignored) as children on the next generation.
