Catastrophic engine problems on a modern Ford, what a surprise 😂
Crazy too think there was time when ford had the most reliable engines ever made
@@patrickodowd8883 the old banana d.i 2.5 went foreverrr
@@yorkshireman7025 thats what i was thinking mate ive a had a fair few of them never a problem
@patrickodowd8883 Their zetec engines from early 2000s were great.
Give the pinto some love too!
I worked on this series of Rangers when they were new.
They were very reliable apart from failed injectors, leaky rear mains, blown turbos, failed intercoolers, failed dpfs, rear axles noisy, oil consumption, ABS module failure, unannounced catastrophic engine failures, Other than that a great truck all round.😂
This also is my experience.
Maybe not a great truck after the long list you put here
@@sicelolongo2388 tumbleweed lol
Good to look at and sit in , but don’t drive ‘‘em too far…😂
Diagnosis in seconds, plan in minutes, and carried out to perfection in an hour!! Top work and great video content guys 👍🤜🤛
100 years of making engines and cars and they can only make them to last 90,000 miles, Good job Ford!
Remove all the modern rubbish like catalytic converter, egr and egr cooler then they will run 500k miles.
I used to drive a tow truck in NZ picked up hundreds of these crappy things the boss loved them they kept him in business lol
That engine hoist deserves a bit of love... a nice clean and a nice coat of paint... it looks sad at the moment!
The joke at the end … I nearly fell off my chair, the missus thought I had lost the plot 😂😂😂
That joke rob just gold can we have one after every video this channel is pure gold 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
I found your channel a few months back now, so glad I did. Couple of top blokes doing quality work being open & honest about the ups & downs, ultimately sharing great content. Thank you.
Important thing about engines and comedy
Timing 😂
I just love seeing Chris’s personality coming through he’s much more relaxed on camera now and really interacts with us viewers, another great post guys looking forward to seeing you work on a truck again 👍
SERVES YOU RIGHT FOR BUYING FORD
A bad advert for Ford. 100k looks like a well maintained engine and it's scrap? Pityful.
Guys why don’t you have some branded vehicle covers made for stuff you don’t want us to see in the background when filming. You could also use them to do “big reveals” or something like that.
Obviously you can also sell them as well. Just a thought.
Australian mechanic here who work on a lot of these. Known issues with these engines. Call main dealer, as you’ll be surprised how affordable a complete new engine is.
If you go with a used engine, consider putting in upgraded oil pump.
Also very important procedure for changing oil and filter with these, if you leave it more then 5 minutes with no oil, it won’t get oil pressure.
Love the channel, long time subscriber
I had a 4yr old mk3 Cortina for 9 years, replaced brakes, sills, suspension, clutch, camshaft twice, rust galore repairs & full paint job & more, & it still only lasted another 12 months after I sold it. Put me off Fords for life - they were rubbish and would not let my family touch one ever since. Enjoyed your video, good fun to watch.👍
Engine Hoists: A device used by mechanics all over the world to test the tensile strength of anything they forgot to disconnect :)
Smaller ford engines are total garbage. This catastrophic damage at 100K miles - that’s just the break in period for a Toyota. Outstanding content!
Not the latest ones. They’re a bag of trouble too.
@@hughmarcus1 - in my defense, my “newest” car is 11 years old.
It's not small really 3,2
@@leedstownthe OP is in America and Ford has the 6.7 litre Powerstroke there.
@@RWL2012 I guessed he was from America
Its worrying that it happened to a well maintained car. Whats to say the next engine wont do the same. Great content guys.
3.2 ranger POS. Super hard to work on. EGR cooler replacement institute barstard of job. Oil pump chain breaker . Pig all round. Every time I see one on the road I cringe for the owner. Thanks for sharing. Following from Sydney Australia.
These are really popular here in Australia. They are famous for being unreliable too
I've just repaired one exactly the same, same engine, egr cooler failed and destroyed the entire engine, the 3.2 isn't a good engine and very expensive to replace, good luck guys👍
My word you did a great job with that! I am so impressed with the methodical progress and lack drama. This was clearly a well maintained vehicle and for the engine to fail so dramatically at such low mileage there must be an underlying problem. Keep up the good work!!
Never seen an Engine with a double porthole like that.great Video Lads.
Made that look easy lads, I heard it was the earlier ones of these these that had the engine fault, we had a couple of early transits 17plates had similar issue
It may sound creepy but I watch and enjoy every one of the videos. it is the closest I get to the real world. Thank you both of you :)
Not that it matters because it is knackered, but the engine is not made by or based on Volvo. It's a PUMA duratorq variant and really based on a Ford native design.
My 3.2 has done 390k absolutely no problems runs sweet as a nut. The reason they die mostly is people try to change the oil themselves. These have a complex oil system and if you get one make sure it has a full service history by Ford as they have the machinery to change the oil. If you get a airlock in the lubricant system you are knackered.
The main issue is oil change must be completed in 15 min and car restarted immediately so not to lose the prime on the oil pump.
Interesting, never heard of that before.
One of the VERY lucky owners.
Chris the magpie, half listening to Rob while looking for loose change 😂😂
The above comment reminded me of Music Magpie.
8:33 love Chris's face when he says 'That's a big 'ole in that' 😄
Funny how that engine in a volvo will do eleventy squillion miles, but put it in a ford and.......Boom! 😂
That ain't a Volvo engine.
That's shocking for that mileage!
That 3.2 engine has a plastic variable vane oil pump that’s prone to self destructing… There’s a modified pump kit available online now..
Great joke at the End Rob .Even had Chris sounding puzzled
It’s a piece of piston. The curved area is gudgeon hole. They’re a mare to get out , take the wipers off and the wiper panel to get room. Especially if it’s a manual. I used to hate them but after building a few I don’t mind them now. In NZ we blank off the egr and sort the ECU To suit and they go heaps better.
Loved that video boys. I'm always impressed with your confidence on where all the components go on the rebuild. Best wishes, Mike. Marlborough.
Good job rob and Chris. 👍👍👍
Very common here in Australia as well. Known as Danger Ranger.
Definitely the funniest gag so far Rob 🤣🤣🤣
I love how you two work so well together
Get it back to Ford for a free engine replacement! This is a known catastrophic failure that's been happening to the 3.2 engine since they were new.
Just remember not to leave it to drain when changing your oil. Dump the oil, refit the drain plug, and refill.
You've got about 15 minutes to refill it with oil otherwise the oil pump loses prime.
A great video! - I really don’t know how you guys do it…. You like surgeons with a car! Such good friendship which is good to see.
Loved the ending😂😂. More than anything the camaraderie between you comes through so well on your videos. Thanks so much- I really enjoy your content 👏🏻👏🏻
Catastrophic engine fail is perfectly usual on a Ranger.
"I'm not coming out at the mo as I'm having a little cry"😂😂
At least guys, it went out with a bang! In the US Ford Explorers are nicknamed Exploders... a friend of mine in Arizona is on his third engine now and he says " the clock is ticking".
My boss has a 62plate ford Ranger standing idle with engine problems, nice little project for someone
Really good video guys, really engrossing and absorbing didn’t want it to end really
Thanks boys...good start to my day...
Great content lads ,always something enjoyable and instructive to watch on this channel .
Chris and rob excellent content and the joke at end was brilliant still a long way to beat chris on toilet 🚽😂😂.
These are notorious for problems here in Australia.motors/gearboxes.my neighbours one caught fire.
wow that's a lovely truck shame about the engine but it won't be long till you have it back on the road and up for sale and can't wait to see what's next on the channel keep them coming guys 👍👍👍💯💯💯
You guys are amazing. Nothing seems to phase you. You just work to find a solution and with great patience produce a perfect vehicle, and I am lucky enough to be able to watch it all happen! Keep it going.
After an oil change, and leaving it a few hours without refilling with oil, oil pump is controlled by computer, then have to take sump off and reprogram as thinks it is out of oil.
thee old conrod has come out for some fresh air nice one
Nice work chaps. Rob, always amazed at how you keep your trainers pristine white when working! Look forward to next part.
Amazed at the amount of damage. Fascinating stuff!
Brilliant joke and perfect delivery!!
When you find the new engine please put a geared oil pump in instead of the stupid vain one that’s in from factory and the new engine won’t go bang when it’s serviced incorrectly
Just love you two I love how nothing stresses you both out especially Chris he’s so laid-back love the banter you have between each other great content lads thank you 😊😊😊😊
Brilliant video. Enjoy a time lapse, but nice change to watch you both work in real-time 👍
Ford make nice looking cars, but i'm not brave enough to buy one.
After one cup of coffee, that urned from an engine into the biggest doorstop I've ever seen!! I feel for the guy, that's a beautful, well maintained truck, it seems nowadays that modern engines are a lottery with Ecobooms, wet belts, timing chains stretching etc.
Built to a budget set by bean counters. Engineers don’t get a look in these days. The manufacturers want us to scrap cars and buy another - sad fact of life! 😡
Oh dear god, I can't believe you came out with that at the end - absolutely seamless! I perked my ears up to hear the rest of the story, as I own a dog myself..... didn't think I would be snorting tea out of my nose two seconds later with that bloody punchline!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Great job and lots of patience guys
Typical ford 😮 . Great video guys love the content 👌. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 . Rangers are very popular here , after seeing this l will not be buying one . Only fix would be put a toyota engine in it 😂.
Buy a vw amarok with a 4 cilinder. Those are oldschool vw diesels the bigblock is a landrover lump.
Another Ecoboom engine doing its thing! Great vid guys, can see “hello” being another t-shirt slogan
Great video, I love the working relationship you guys have going to work must be a real pleasure 😊
Everyone's happy until auntie con and uncle rod comes along knocking 😅
Great video really enjoyed. If bellhousing bolts were such a nightmare did you not consider removing engine and gearbox as a complete unti and then split on shopfloor?
Change the oil pump to the new kind .
Great work as ever fellas. Thank you.
Fantastic! Well done gentlemen.
That was the best video you too have done really entertaining keep it boys brilliant 🎉
Rob & Chris, I nearly choked when you told that joke at the end!!!! OMG RLMAO
You done very well getting them bellhousing bolts out a reall nightmare to get out I found to my cost in the passed. Well done to you both.
Brilliant Rob and Chris
It’s well documented of the vane oil pump failure and egr problems guys
Fords' are great to drive when they are working
Heavy right foot caused that damage, impressed with Chris,s neatness, and steadiness makes a troublesome job far easier
Even though I’m across the pond, I surely enjoy watching you two…
We need more jokes like that . Ace .😅😂
Same engine has a 10 minute time limit to refill the sump when servicing otherwise it loses its prime of the oil system and that's a whole nother problem 👎
Same regarding the BT-50’s with the same motor. Drop the oil but don’t let it drain fully out & get fresh oil in there ASAP.....what a dumb design 🤔🤦🏼♂️
Fantastic piece of work;well done.
That was a brilliant video - absolutely amazing. Total respect to you both, credit where it’s due! 😊
Wow that’s shocking - loving the dad jokes Rob 😂 How come Chris calls you Johnny ?
Can we paint the hoist please ?
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Great work by you both again,
I was thinking of getting a Ford Ranger and wanted the 3.2 rather than the smaller engine. I’m not sure if I still want a Ranger now 😬
Found a crack? Are you sure he didn’t say ‘found a crank’? lol
Amazing video guys. Those holes !!!!!
Great video Johnny.
Love the joke at the end...😂
Ford seem to have a few vehicles that have major issues with the engines
Well done chaps, just getting on with it no dramas, love it
Nice! It would be nice to get an idea of why it let go but as you say, but of faff stripping it down. Liked the joke at the end, and especially Chris' reaction 😂
Superb video gents. How can a big 3.2 L engine with 93000miles literally explode and fail.Come on Ford wake up and pull up your socks and manufacture more reliable products.
