World's Strongest Movie:
• DragonBall Z Abridged ... - Komedie
I definitely hear "I'M the Electrocutioner now" as if the Electrocutioner just died and he's taking the name. I get it.
LANI IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT I HEAR IT TOO
the VA for him definitely put more inflection on the "I'm", and Nick pointing it out makes me hear it so much clearer
Lani raises a great point there.
This is some frozen pea commercial levels of pet-peevishness 😂
Agreed, that said it goes by so fast and it's the only line he get so it's not the biggest of deals.
I love Goku's motivation isn't even like. He's not insulted that they passed over him, he's concerned that they won't get who they're looking for
I know! It’s kind of adorable! Like he’s imagining it’s some kid’s birthday party and they might be disappointed it’s not the real world’s strongest fighter, and he wouldn’t want that to happen. That’s how that line read comes across to me and I love it
Same energy as that kid misspelling *Santa* in his letter asking for a puppy, but the fallen angel still gets him a "puppy" anyway so the kid isn't disappointed.
It’s like if David Blaine found out that a child wanted to see “the best magician ever” at his birthday party and was like “welp, gotta right that wrong” 😂
And Masako's delivery on "There's been a mistake, I gotta fix this" sounds exactly like a dad explaining how he has to pull an extra shift cause someone borked up inventory or something
Idk, shouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt
"Are the bodies not a clear indicator of how this is gonna go down?"
Such a good line. Roshi throwing hands is always entertaining
That line unironically goes hard for a series that is, in fact, a comedy parody.
@@kylebrady969 people constantly forget that dragon ball has been a parody all along. I guess it's hard to see from all that distance in the past.
Lani's delivery is AMAZING.
I like to imagine Wheelo hired Kochin like, a week before he discovered his cancer, so he didn't realize Kochin was an evil scientist until it was too late
Oh shit that's so funny and it makes a lot of sense.
What if Kochin turned evil over time? Realizing the Red Ribbon paid handsome amounts of money for evil inventions after Wheelo already ended up in his robo-suit, and then went psycho after being left wandering the world looking for the Dragon Balls.
Or Kochin was like an incompetent intern who thought being a scientist meant being evil and no one stopped him after Wheelo got sick.
The “didn’t realize Kochin was an evil scientist” gets worse/funnier when you realize Kochin made the ball pit, biomen, and modified Zapzap, Blubblub, and Burr all without him ever noticing.
Though, I’m just now realizing, whatever you have to say about Kochin’s morals you can’t deny he has loyalty. He spent 50 years finding the dragon balls (that a certain group kept taking) and tried his best to get a body for Wheelo.
I am 95% convinced that the only reason Piccolo has a house in Super Hero is bc of you guys constantly pointing out how he is homeless in Abridged.
Agreed. Also that shot of Kami and Nail during the ToP.

@@EvanSol919 As well as the Popo threatening Vegeta after breaking the hyperbolic time chamber 😁
And Goku being a literally man child
no that's definitely not the case. They just needed somewhere for him to chill out and store his collection of plushies so of course they'll show his house. Plus it's a neat way to reference Namek architecture
Goku putting the spirit bomb down is probably my favorite movie joke
One of the best in the series, because it’s something I never really thought about before
It has the same energy as the Cooler 2 gag where Goku plummets to Namek after winning the day, and when he lands, there's just a hellish nuclear explosion for no reason
Every movie seems to have its one great bit goku putting down the spirit bomb vegeta getting kicked in the dick 1000 times or goten getting erased lol

Of course Bulma is cool with Roshi's farm. She's in her mid 20's, rich, and absolutely down to party
She’s been 37 for ten years
I think mid 30s but sure, that definitely works either way 😂
@@twenty-fifth420she’s like 27 at the beginning of z so she’s like 29 max during this
@@cavemanbuddyolpalActually on the nose, she was born in Age 733 and this movie was probably in like 762. So 29. My bad!
I feel like Bulma helps run his business because she's bored and wants to. She could simply give him anything he needs, but running a business keeps Roshi going and sometimes he needs a hand.
I bet Roshi's island is outside the jurisdiction of any country so the trades he makes there are technically not illegal.

Honestly, I love Goku’s “there’s been a terrible mistake I have to fix this” thing, it doesn’t come across as prideful, it comes across to me like he’s legitimately trying to be helpful like he’s worried something they’re doing might go wrong or someone will be disappointed that the real strongest person in the world isn’t there
Yeah, if people dont know hes the world strongest then no one would come challenge him
Roshi's retired. It's a good move for Goku to want to go and fix things rather than letting his foster dad whose supposed to be retired need to work against his will.
Or that someone might be hurt if they’re mistaken for him.
i like the take of goku being loving to the point where he’s caring about someone mistakenly identifying the worlds strongest because he wants to ensure the true world’s strongest is there in case there was danger that only the worlds strongest could handle to save whatever could be threatening enough to need the worlds strongest around
@@exceedcharge1so it’s goku fault literally that the earth is in danger all the time

Shenron in this movie has the energy of that lone employee that runs a radioshack who only ever has like the one group of college students who come in, hearing the door from the backroom and starting to tell them off before noticing it’s a whole new customer and excitedly going into customer service mode because it’s a break in the boredom that ISN’T those assholes
That sounded highly specific. Is everything okay? 😅
@@tonberry2670 Yes, my imagination just pinpointed exactly this comparison for some reason
But then that new customer is an old man trying who wants something fixed, but it's something easy like downloading the latest edition of javascript, which Shenron tries to explain but the old man is hearing none of that
@@CrownofMischiefA job that shouldn't be frustrating yet is because of the people around you lol
Honestly I'd totally believe that in the DBZA universe version of GT, Shenron had just gotten sick and tired of everyone's shit, so using a couple loopholes in some of the more recent wishes he set it up so they'd keep making a few more wishes so he could activate the Shadow Dragon clause in his contract and finally get a chance to kick the crap out of them. Then once he got that out of his system he just sorta felt like seeing how far away he could abandon Goku before he realized something was off.
My favorite Fun Fact of this movie is Bluma's reaction to meeting Wheeler. The pun in Japanese is top tier.
She says _"Oh no!"_ which sounds like a shocked English phrase that is something a Japanese person might say, but also "no" is Japanese for brain. So she is actually saying "Oh brain!"
The pun works on so many levels.
Perfect
Are we not gonna talk about the fact that Goku decked Freezer in the schnoz, and when he finally meets Frieza, he said he's gonna deck him in the schnoz? That was a nice callback.
Goku punches lots of people... more likely coincidence
@@tsm688but then... Why him specifically?
@@TheGoddamnBacon Well, he did say he'd deck the next person he sees. Seems Freezer was just a case of wrong place at wrong time.
I think the meta-joke of Oolong's wish went over a lot of people's heads: He's a literal 'fascist pig'.
I thought it was a reference to the Khmer Rouge because he usually wears one of those Mao Era unisex jumpsuits.
The Red Star is pretty obvious, but no matter how worse that reputation should be, can't criticize that ideology.
You mean it wasn't Animal Farm?
@@LycanFerretCould be both.

Possibly my favorite line of all DBZA
"evil science"
"No! Neutral science at worst!"
I just can’t get over the delivery on “and FIGHT the elderly!”
22:24 Fun little anecdote: This actually happened to my fiancee while she was drunk one time, and she said she literally couldn't find her feet. Lani's follow up as Roshi was pretty much exactly her reaction.
The great thing about Blub Blub dying (as terrible as it sounds) is it really shows how empathetic and kind Wheelo is in this version and by extension, how absolutely psychotically evil Kochin is. like how Kochin doesn't care that BlubBlub is dying, but Wheelo sounds so broken.
Exactly. Poor Wheelo is just so pitiable in this version
Agreed. It's deprarious on it's own, but it's also a wonderful character moment
Blub Blub dying was very upsetting to me the first time I watched this. It still does to a degree.
I feel so bad for him, it tugs the heartstrings
@@ericbright1742I got it!
43:35 Lani had a literal "It doesn't bother me, it doesn't bother me.... It bothers me, it bothers me a lot, AND THAT ONE STILL GREEN!" moment
😂 I do agree with him, when I heard that line I always thought: “wait weren’t you already the electrocutioner or am I missing something?”
He's also 100% right lol
he really is green 😌
Oh are we talking about their flubs? Because I have one that drives me INSANE. In super android 13, vegeta totals 8 androids, BUT he was only counting the androids that trunks didn’t warn them about, which reached 7. This mistake came from the fact that after learning of cell, he says “DO I HEAR 5?” Because he just found out about a fourth, and was waiting for the fifth. But they added 3 to that number and got 8 instead of 7, and I drives me crazy that no one talks about it.
That line has always, ALWAYS sounded weird to me, because of this!
The chemistry between Kochin and Wheelo is seriously the best, the hardest I ever laughed.
>Wheelo breaks out
Wheelo: HOW LONG HAVE I HAD THIS?!
Kochin: Wait, you seriously didn’t know about the exoskeleton body I left for you? You really thought I would just leave you in a jar? What kind of monster do you think I-
>Wheelo breaks floor and Kochin falls

This is my fave TFS movie. I wrestled with this and Broly (love Lani’s Vegeta) but what you said is why this edges
I honestly agree with Lani on the delivery of the "I'm the Electrocutioner now!" line. He's empahsizing the "I'm " which makes it sound like he's stolen/taken the name from someone else.
Same. I always assumed he was announcing himself, as opposed to correcting the name
Meh, I always heard it as a neutral correction: he just stating that he’s not Zap, he’s The Electrocutioner. It’s not like he’s upset at having to correct Freezer, he’s just stating the change.
Right, as opposed to emphasizing "Electrocutioner", showing he's fullheartedly accepted his change in name and occupation.
Then electrocutionate him! I don’t give a (bleep)!
“I’M the captain now” energy
“A kame and a hame and a send him home to mommy!” Hands down my favourite Roshi line and borderline my favourite line in all of DBZA, you guys freaking nailed it!
Kochin takes 50 years to gather the dragon balls
Lani:"Kochin is very efficent"
I mean, I doubt he was looking for them for 50 years. The Z fighters use them multiple times in that span and would have stumbled upon him multiple times if he were searching for them for 50 years.
Presumably every time they did get used by someone else, he had to begin his work tracking them down all over again.
@@squiddler7731Exactly
To be fair he did it with no Dragon Radar, that's a fair amount of time to find seven magic balls scattered over the face of the planet. For all we know some of them were in different countries.
@@squiddler7731gotta wait a year each time they are used too just so they aren't inert...
Ironically, setting Roshi's age aside, his body would be perfect for a scientist since Roshi can't die of old age.
Ya, that's a way better reason to want that body. Infinite lifespan to have all the time he needs to research and invent. Plus, Wheelo is an old man, and assuming it goes by the realistic concept that the voice comes from the body not the soul/brain, then Roshi's voice would sound the least strange for Wheelo to hear when talking.
Oh hey that's a fun an world building question. What's keeping Roshi from aging? Because if it's his mastery over ki control, that goes away if you take over his body. It's not like he asked the dragon balls for eternal life or anything, right?
@@spdewertton Was the phoenix joke in the manga or was it anime filler? I forget.
@@spdewertton so it's a bit ambiguous, but Turtle mentions a medicine/elixir of immortality in the original manga, but doesn't seem certain and Roshi doesn't confirm or deny it, however later on in the Piccolo Daimao arc he mentions the water of immortality not existing to Tenshinhan (this is literal translation from the manga, as Viz translates them as immortality elixir and elixir of immortality respectively). Ultimately, Roshi's agelessness is never truly explained, though Super once tried their hand with it as well with the Paradise Herb, though this was anime-only.
@@FightingFoodonsFanFortunately we know it does in TFS’ version, as shown with Goku and Ginyu.
There is a pig race in the original Dragon Ball anime. They run a hot spring and everyone is named after a type of tea.
Oh thats right, when they were looking for the basho sen
Honestly I don't know why, but that "why is it the size of a Greyhound?" "THE BUS!?" is my favourite thing in this movie.
This movie really is the peak of TFS: the writing, the editing, the new animation, the complete change of the plot for the better.
To bear fair, they didn't have to change the plot by that much. The only true deviation from the plot was making Wheelo sympathetic while his partner is the purest form of the Mad Scientist archetype that keeps making Wheelo's life miserable.
I still feel sad for Blub Blub. He just wanted a hug.
I like to imagine he has like regeneration abilities, and was left intact enough to make a full recovery
And combat!

I wanna imagine that in honor of Wheelo’s death, the heroes revived his creations so Bulma could reprogram them to their original purposes.
Or they're in Movie HFIL. They're probably past the strength cutoff (assuming Raditz as the minimum), and we know from Cell that being a programmed evil artificial life form is no excuse.
@@somejerk5662Maybe they graduated already?

World's Strongest was always my favorite of the movies. Simple, looks great, has that Maeda/Sato era goodness. Two notes: the ocean dub beam struggle fucking rules for how chaotic and intense the delivery and mixing gets, even with the "kay o ken." Also sad that in your version we didn't get the really cool hand flip Piccolo does into Goku's chin. Always thought that was cool.

It's so hilarious that Gohan says "no one has died", but Yamcha did and he saw it himself.
It's really ironic that even the creators forgot to mention him.
Maybe Yamcha developed somewhat of an immunity to suicide attacks; he's the only one who would've survived Cell.
Wait, can’t you hear Yamcha groaning? Like, wasn’t that him at 16:00? I thought he was just extremely hurt, not actually dead.

Because just moments ago Wheelo was appreciating the beauty of planet Earth and lamenting never being able to witness it ever again. He truly longs for it, only for Goku to literally use the Earth to kill him.
I always thought the reason goku is so chill about gohan having piccolo as his roll model is that he knows his son is too smart to fight like he does, so when he saw piccolo has trained his son and they became closer he was just like problem solved.

He gets a few: Garlic Jr.
He gets a few: Resurrect Goku
So basically, it is because the Z fighters are spending time defending the Dragon Balls from those who would otherwise use them and also defending Earth from progressively higher stakes that Dr. Kochin was able to get the Dragon Balls?
@@iantaakalla8180 It's because of that that it took him 50 years.
The downtime after rezzing Goku is how he was able to get them.
46:23 aside from the fact that they were putting significantly more effort and resources into far less run time than the shows schedule called for, Toei often moved the very best animators over from the show to work on the movies as well
59:00 There is a great series called The Fixer by Andrew Vallencourt. It delves deep into what it would be like to be a cyborg without your senses, and how it would drive a normal person insane. I love the series and recommend it to anyone who enjoys futuristic sci-fi fiction.
I swear Prospector Roshi is one of the most underrated voices, it's so perfect and I'm glad this movie showed so much of him.
"He was supposed to spread love, and hugs to children"
I want to hug them all! best henchmen ever!
Gotta agree with Lani on the emphasis of the electrocutioner line read sounding less like "hey, that's not my name" and more like "I devoured Guru and am now the grand elder".
45:13 is genuinely one of the saddest things y'all ever made in DBZA and it still makes me laugh
I definitely heard the Electrocutioner line the way Lani did when I first watched this
There is very clear emphasis on the “I’m”
I always thought that Wheelo was voiced by the same guy who voiced Dr.Gero and Cooler.
Yeah legit today I learned, I could’ve sworn Wheelo was the same voice as 20.
Taka being the peace maker is very sweet
58:36 Wheelo’s line here makes me think of Mr. Freeze in Batman TAS for the lines of “I’d trade a thousand of my days” and “I’d killed for that.”
24:09 I love how Lani and Taka both get upset at Kaiser pausing before Roshi finished his line.
Even he gets upset at himself
The whole Wheelo and Kochin dynamic is perfect! I've never laughed nor felt as bad watching DBZA. 10/10, this is my favorite DBZA movie.
The Greyhound bit is one of my absolute favourite jokes; the delivery on "The BUS!?" is so fantastic.
Also, cool about Wheelo's VA being Megatron. The WFC series is... Well, it exists, but I found that Megatron was by far the best part of it. I loved the much more pensive feel that incarnation of the character had. Regardless of how the show was received, that's a pretty big character to play. Good for him.
When that spongy guy started crying, it actually disturbed me a bit. This was a fun film to watch.
