    It was funny when they had the drivers name and number on the inside of the car. Probably because adding text on an live feed was so challenging.

    The complete bumpergate story is told in Tom Higgins' great book Daytona. The full conspiracy theory is that they intentionally misplaced the bumper, knowing nascar would make them move it. Then when nascar did make them move it, the only welder they could "find" was a spot welder, which they used to reposition the bumper while gazaway watched and approved. They knew the spot welded bumper would come off with even light contacnd. And if anyone protested, they had themselves covered, cause nascar's top official had approved the the newly placed bumper after watching them do it.The good ol double bluff.

      @Slinger43 Před 2 lety

      All true, but if that bumper had hurt, or killed any driver, or bounced over the fence & hurt, or killed a fan they may have black flagged Bobby & strung Gary Nelson up in the garage! ☠️

    Bobby & Gary Nelson (especially Gary Nelson) were so damned lucky that bumper didn't hurt (or kill) anyone. If it had, the folks in the garage may have had a REAL NOOSE waiting for Gary after the race! ☠️

    Harry Gant's #33 sounds like it is running a flat-plane crankshaft. It sounds like his car isn't the only one either. Did NASCAR allow such a thing back then?

    Bobby Allison's team should have been forced to bring that car in and reattach the bumper. That bumper fell off deliberately and NASCAR new it. He wasn't hit or bumped into.

      Yra they didn't even have HDTV back then and people smoked cigarettes everywhere too and it stank bc the cars would spew toxic gasses into the air. People went to prison for Marijuana.
      Oh and we had reganomics which devastated the lower middle class and set up the Uber corporate environment we live in today where corporations have more power and money than whole nations and holding vast amounts of personsl data, everything from your shopping habits, to who you vote for come election time.

    • @TheRyGuyRy
      @TheRyGuyRy Před 4 lety +2

      At the time some cars were using what are known as 180 Degree headers. They change the order in which the exhaust pulses exit the pipes, resulting in the V8's sounding like a pair of 4 cylinders running together. In NASCAR at this time, the pipes usually crossed under the oil pan to hook up to the collectors. Look up 180 degree headers on youtube for more examples of their unique sound.

    Hayden ... Good morning !!! All right ? My name is Claudio and I live in Brazil ... I need to ask a question !!! I have been running Nascar races since 1980 and noticed that you have a race listing. But some of these videos that were in my folders were placed as "private" and I can no longer see !!! Do you happen to remember the name of the person responsible for the channel of these videos that are "private"? It will complicate all my research if I no longer have access ... Thank you very much !!!
