Dont eat food that's in a box with a long list of ingredients. Dont eat processed wheat (flour in bread and donuts) The best diet in the world could be called a fad diet because it is not a Standard American Diet. Paleo is probably the best diet in the world but you dont have to be religious about it but it helps if you are.

Is Dr. Tim Noakes persona non grata in South Africa these days? He's disowned carb-loading and even said in an interview he'd rip-out the section on carbohydrates from Lore of Running.

Why did Noakes change his opinion on carb-loading?

@@TommyShlong He became a low-carb high fat diet advocate. He even stated that the body is trying to lower blood glucose as fast as possible. This is after he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and the fact his father died from it.

Fantastic video 🔥🙏🏽 totally on point and perfectly planned 👍🏽 (only comment and this is me just picking holes really) is some more cutaway imagery (while talking) to the branded products used like the bars and powders sis and veloforte for example (for video monetisation sponsorship) and cutaways to whole food/natural food kitchen preparation (again sponsorship monetisation opportunities for certain store chains) 🥑🍠🫐🍓🥗🍗🥩
    Great video 💪🏽🙏🏽

During a video on "eating properly", CZcams inserted an advertisement for some powdered junk for "folks with busy lives". All hail the ad algorithm.🤣

I am 67, training for mountain Ultras.
The real problem I have is eating enough…my strategy is to eat until it hurts.
During runs I don’t drink water, start with Oatly Barister, this gives 61g per 100ml. I do add water when available.
Otherwise real food. A wholemeal sourdough sandwich, or wrap. Doritos are rather good.

I'm 68 and doing the same thing but I'm not racing, just trail running and backpacking. You must be thin already, I'm still a bit heavy at 195 pounds and 6'2" tall. I sometimes hike 500 miles in 30 days and resupply every 5-8 days for more food but I always start out at around 200 pounds and end up at 175. I only eat half of the calories I'm burning on trail, then I pork out at a resupply stop and sometimes take a day off just to eat all day.

bananas are gold for me, I don't need to wait 2hrs+ for my run, I can have a banana and be starting a long run 30min later and be fine.

If I have enough calorie intake from protein and fat to fuel my exercise demand then what essential carbohydrates am I missing?

    • @GTE_Channel
      @GTE_Channel Před 11 měsíci +1

Most people can do fairly intens exercise up to 90mins without the need for carbs. I know I can

    • @chilternsroamer872

      1) The guest is a marathon runner. NOBODY runs marathons in 90 minutes. Unofficial record (with dodgy shoes) is, iirc, about 120 minutes.
      2) training for 90 minutes 5 or 6 days a week is either gonna run down one's glycogen, or one is exercising at a very modest intensity.
90 minutes once or twice a week is one thing. But no serious athletes train as little as that.

    OMG what “pros” eat

  • @hikerJohn

Eating high protein made her hair fall out??? Just how much was she eating and why? This is NOT helpful without some details
Also . . . why would your body break down protein to make glucose (gluconeogenisis) when it is perfectly happy burning ketones? Protein and carbs provide the same energy at 4 calories per gram while fat provides 9, it's just that sugar provides it quicker which is why fast runners need it but not slow runners. You can spare the carbs until you are either fast or you have little body fat left to spare.
It's not like you don't have ANY glycogen . . . Your body will make glycogen when you sleep if you are on a slightly high protein and fat diet. I'm sure it's different between fast runners and slow long distance runners who are at it for 15 hrs a day. In my case. experience has taught me that if I'm carrying extra fat my body readily uses it but when I burn through it and get to a low body body fat % then I start craving all foods but not until then. I train run/walking 10-20 miles a day 3-4 days a week but I also do long distance backpacking and after a while I can hike 30 miles a day. When I do eat carbs hiking I try to restrict it to the end of the day to prevent a rise in insulin while I'm exercising and to ease the replenishment of glycogen. It seems that if you are burning ketones, you only rely on glycogen occasionally for steep hills.
If you are eating enough protein and you are not losing TOO MUCH weight you are probably just fine. I don.t know about everyone else but my body craves what it needs. Last week I did a hike that burned 6500 calories in 8 hrs and I never got hungry. I ate some snacks anyway because the group stopped to rest and snack but I felt no benefit from it because *fuel* was not the limiting factor . . . it was the 10,000 ft elevation that was slowing me down after not being at elevation for almost a year. You could say it was a lack of red blood cells. My max HR was lower than my training HR as it never went above 150 and averaged HR was only 138.
Responding to a comment in the video, Craving for cabs is NOT because you are not eating enough of them but because you are eating too much of them. The more carbs you eat the hungrier you get because insulin blocks the hormone that tells the brain you are satisfied and stimulates *ghrelin* (the hunger hormone). It's actually hard to not eat more and more carbs. Ketogenic diets suppress *ghrelin* secretion (probably by lowering insulin)

I disagree. Running fasted is fantastic when your body adjusts to it. If you CRAVE SWEETS that’s an indication your not FAT ADAPTED so your body is NOT very efficient in burning fat. This could lead to insulin resistance which is a precursor to type 2 diabetes.

Craving sweet 'treats' is an addiction and not an indication of need. There are no essential carbohydrates.
