  • Here we see some of my footage of the Vale of Rheidol Railway Steam Festival 'Forgotten Engines II' held over the weekend of 14-15/09/2019.
Included in this part are many shots of shunting around Aberystwyth in the evening, a look around the workshops and the locos on display, and also all three Rheidol Tanks lined up outside the sheds in the glorious evening sunlight.
Having the three Rheidol Tanks in steam together was special, not only because it last happened two decades ago, but also because no 7 had just returned from an overhaul and in 2020 no 9 is due out for an overhaul.
The busy weekend on the VoR saw all three Rheidol Tanks in steam together for the first time in 20 years and saw 6 departures from Aber including a demonstration freight. The workshops in Aberystwyth were also open with guided tours every half an hour and numerous steam locos on display. Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST 'Nesta', Borsig 0-4-0WT Type 2 5913 & Brigardelok 0-8-0T 4766 were all on public display for the first time. Other locos undergoing overhauls and rebuilds were also on display in the works. Also, at Aberystwyth the Rheildol Tanks were taking turns in doing "driver for a fiver" runs in a siding and Quarry Hunslet 'Margaret' was doing the same at the other end at Devil's Bridge.
Seeing the three locos out of the museum collection was particularly special as it's not often you see locos in such condition. Nesta was seen in almost the same condition as she was found in a swamp in Puerto Rico.
Big thanks to the Vale of Rheidol Railway for holding this great event and for allowing many of us enthusiasts into the workshop/shed area to take photographs and video.
    Hope you enjoy.
