And you, which colour would you choose for the boudoir ?
What kind of furniture would you put inside?

    • @themainer1267
      @themainer1267 Před rokem +2

The color should complement or repeat the colors of the adjoining golden living room. Perhaps two soft, green tones which would fit with the period. Can you discover what the original color may have been? Mahogony finishes for feminine pieces such as a small writing desk for her to keep and write love letters, one or two pastel tapestry upholstered chairs near the fireplace, and a tufted sofa, chaise, or fainting couch for any occasional tryst. A mirror or two on a table to freshen the lady's make up and/or hair. A Persian area rug and silk or velvet curtains in coordinating pastel colors to bring everything together. It would be tragic to put anything on the beautiful, original paneling.

A fainting couch plants and writing desk and chair. She can keep her whining in there and not spread it throughout the home. I’d put a beautiful botanical wallpaper where there isn’t paneling. I believe the work is moldings. 🤷‍♀️

I think keep all panelling and, no stone, chandelier a great idea. I think deep colours are best for a sulking room, autumn times, burgundy, deep green, deep blue, rustic orang etc to invoke emotions. Velvet chairs, heavy curtains, lamps as well battery operated haha, throw rug carpet, blankets, pillows and painting will create ambience, beautiful old painting that tell a marvelous tale.

Corals pinks greens in the fabrics , just to represent the feminine but the walls n such still match adjoining room ? If I were a woman back then I would have needed a whining room 😉❣️

I am a strong believer of keeping the integrity of the original design of an historic structure. Through the hundreds of years, it appears in the case of the boudoir, there has been a great effort to maintain that. It would be a great contribution to that for you to honor that effort and consider returning the boudoir to its original size and form.
It would be terrific to keep the original footprint of the boudoir by putting the wall back up that divides the two spaces and replicating the paneling on it. It would seem there would have originally been some source of heat in the boudoir, so a small faux fireplace, topped by a mirror, or feminine parlor stove could be placed on that paneled wall which could be flanked with wall sconces for the primary light source you wanted to add. The replicated panels might even be designed as a hidden pass-through for passing snacks or wine from the kitchen to the boudoir, something an upset lady could use while in her upset room.
The small window, and the above panel that seems to divide the two spaces would make it difficult to make the two spaces look cohesive. It would always appear the extension was unplanned and an afterthought.
The area planned for an extension could revert back to its original, wine-related purpose. The beautiful wood from the attic could still be used for the flooring in that area in the width that it is now as to work well with the rustic feel of the stone. The window wall could stay stone (happy wife, happy life), new lighting as you had planned, and even continue the stone on the other walls to include removing all the existing plaster which would be very much in keeping with the wine theme. The purpose of the room would be to store wine. When entering from the kitchen, the area on the right could have a glass panel with a glass door (like on a shower) where it would be a walk-in wine cooler with the remaining area for storage of room-temperature wine.
Thank you for the very nice introduction and explanation of the boudoir project. I'm sure whatever you do will be beautiful.

I just discovered your channel! I am so happy I discovered you, I have been watching other chateau channels and longing for chateaus also being renovated and lived in by French people. I am of Spanish descent mostly I have some French heritage from way back down line to the different French houses but it is so long ago I can't claim that I am now French lol. I do however feel a kinship with the French people and of course the similar culture as the Spanish. I feel pride in watching French people renovate and restore what is their heritage for future generations of people. The history you have shared regarding the boudoir we would have never have known in the U.S. it is considered just a bedroom. I like the idea of the sulking room/ crying room. I can imagine a woman in her silks dashing to that room with her skirts rustling, having had quite enough, sinking into a luxurious chaise/ or chair in front of a little table ordering some hot chocolate served in Limoges serving ware staring out that window. I can't wait to watch you transform the Chateau. I love the idea of covering up that window area it will bounce light around a darker area, it will be authentic and cohesive to the boudoir. I am loving your taste and idea for the room keeping it an authentic little jewelbox. I agree, I think if you can not "plaster" over the stone then just use the sheet rock. It will look amazing. Again so glad I found you guys, I subbed and liked and pressed the alert for your videos. :D

My house, built by an architect from the 'Batiments de France' in the 19th century has panelling taken from a nearby manor house and it dates from the 18th century. In my kitchen they incorporated the frontage of a 220 cm wardrobe and made it into a cupboard.

I would drop the ceiling in the new section just above the opening and line the new walls with cushioning and cover in fabric to make a wonderful sumptuous curtained alcove with the little window for a daybed. Love the chandelier ~ I have one in my dining room that uses only real candles ~ no problem ~ you can get long handled church lighting poles with wicks and snuffers for candes online to easily use! That's interesting about the building original floor plan (also that ideas could change if it took twenty years to build) or historical owners being a father and son regarding the Boudoir. It's unusual, I think, that the room would be situated next to the kitchen with the cooking smells possibly being offensive to the lady of the house, especially in a Pout.

If you find you don’t hv enough light or prefer to use a central light more easily than lighting candles and the associated hanging issues and wax issues, you can always get the chandelier wired. If you do want to light candles regularly there may be a chain that could be attached for ease of lowering it.

    •  Před rokem

Yes, I am hesitating to finally wire it actually, but I would need to dig a cable into the ceiling now... 😁

From what I read in 17th and 18th century castle life, the boudoir was more a cabinet de toilette, next to the reception room, which is was used for convenience. Today, it would be the powder room. If you decide to put a loo, you can in the darker corner with the small dormer window, closed from the main well lit side with "coiffeuse" and vanity

    •  Před rokem +1

Yes the boudoir was also used as a cabinet de toilette ! I still have have some open questions regarding the original function of each room of the my chateau, but step by step, I do solve every mystery!

Hi I'm new to your chateau, you are doing a lovely job. I have been looking at a lot of chateau vlogs. Where you said it sounds empty where you knock on the wall. That place may have been a doorway. If it has a vertical piece of wood or thick slab over the top. (It may have been plastered over. That is a good indication that it was a doorway, or maybe a window. I'm looking forward to seeing more of you vlogs. Oh we call the paste, plaster. PPS: Chateau Diaries has paneling, Stephanie's cousin is doing a fabulous job renovating. On the Petherick's and Doing it Ourselves, they have transformed their lights to electric. They all did a fabulous job. If I remember right Chateau Ferté did the same. Hope this helps.

I love the stone in this room but I agree that it probably needs to be covered to blend with the other walls. The hollow sound could mean there are shelves on that wall. I do like the idea of using those big planks for the floor if you have enough. As for the chandelier you can buy realistic looking candle sticks that flicker. Since the ceiling is so high you probably wouldn't be able to tell from looking at the chandelier from the floor plus it would be a lot safer to use instead of candles. God Bless Kathy 🇺🇸

They decide to use clear flickering ones that do give a warm candle glow rather than a white colder kind of light. What a gorgeous beautiful light filled room. I would go with Louis XV furniture for the boudoir. I noticed the rounded mouldings in the wall panels which would go very well with the curves of Louis XV chairs. Also, as I’m sure you know, there are still French manufacturers that produce very high quality reproductions in the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. Antique originals can be hard to find and very expensive. I would go with light colours if possible and try to determine what the original colour scheme may have been?

Thank you! Yes, the room is indeed rather small, but beautiful. Modern chairs and sofas are far too bulky, but a Louis XV sofa and two Louis XV arm chairs might fit in the space without overwhelming the room. They would have to be arranged carefully. You might even have space for a nice coffee table in the same style. Otherwise, I would keep the room as simple as possible in order to be elegant. It would be lovely as a relaxing room for reading and enjoying a coffee perhaps? 😊

Why would the wife want such a small living room for herself!??

I suppose because it's cosy to receive some friends for tea (it's also close to the kitchen, so the servants could easily bring some food...)
