I am thrilled to bits you are reacting to G and M !!! One of my favourite sitcoms!
Ashley's laugh makes me so happy. Thank you for watching this English classic comedy.
I've seen this series many times over the years. But I still get a (cringing) laugh out of it each time.
I implore you to follow this series. You're in for a treat!
Loving the beads, makes Ashley's laugh even more delightful
I was sort of aware of this when I was young but never watched it. But your vibrant persona has brought it to life!
I enjoy watching Ashley react to these old tv shows .
Don't you just love how George speaks his mind and doesn't care who he's around LMAO
It's so cool that you're doing George & Mildred ! Classic British comedy. I grew up watching this. Loved it.
So glad you are reacting to George & Mildred.. its a classic & still great today x
Desmond's is a British television situation comedy broadcast by Channel 4 from 1989 to 1994.[ Conceived and co-written by Trix Worrell, and produced by Charlie Hanson and Humphrey Barclay,Desmond's stars Norman Beaton as barber Desmond Ambrose, whose shop is a gathering place for an assortment of local characters. The show is set in Peckham, London, and features a predominantly black British Guyanese cast. With 71 episodes, Desmond's became Channel 4's longest running sitcom in terms of episodes
I love George and Mildred :)
Can't skip a Thames intro! 😮
George And Mildred Still Rocks
This is actually funnier than I remember.
I'm glad you're sticking with this series. It's one of those that takes a bit of getting used to, but it's well worth the effort. Mike Yarwood was a popular TV impressionist in the 70's. Hence the joke about what would he, 'get hold of', with Margaret Thatcher, as he only did male characters, (as far as I know.)
See what he does at 10:57, then hear the line at 21:48, the pay-off is gold.
The american remake of this was called " The Ropers "
Yootha Joyce was in a league of her own 😁
I have a friend who lived next door to Yootha many many yearsa ago when she lived in Paddinton / Baywaster W2. He said she was the salt of the earth!
With in 10 years the one who played Mildred had died in real life
I'm surprised she didn't break down in tears or throttle him.
So glad you are continuing with George & Mildred .
George & Mildred is a perfect example of 70's British comedy. You'll find common themes in the comedies based in the British suburbs of that era: Class, politics, aspiration and changing social attitudes. Many of these comedies look dated now but Yootha Joyce and Brian Murphy are such a watchable couple there's a timeless element to them.
George is still going strong AKA Brian Murphy
It originated from Man about the House. This was the age we had proper entertainment on TV not like todays rubbish
On the Buses was another classic comedy you could react to...
My flat is full of 1930s furniture... :-)
The concept of the show was that Mildred was a sexually frustrated wife. George was not interested, and,Yootha Joyce liked a drink or two in real life too.
Your beads are awesome
its a spin off from man about the house
An unfortunate fact which you may not be aware of is that Yootha Joyce (Mildred) died of alcoholism. She acted her part so well that nobody had any idea that she drank a whole bottle of whisky every morning before going to work. RIP.
Actually, she didn’t die directly from alcoholism. She was drinking brandy constantly for years and she wasn’t eating much and begun getting stomach pains. Her doctor wanted her to go to hospital but she refused and the pains initially went away. They were in production on another series of George & Mildred (that obviously was never completed) and she had pains again. She still wouldn’t go to hospital when her doctor insisted and instead booked herself into a Private Harley Street Clinic. The clinic wasn’t at all knowledgable on dealing with alcoholics and would not give her regular alcohol (as you are supposed to) and also took her cigarettes off her. She was ok for a few days but on about the third she went into severe withdrawal, became unconscious and died. She was only 53. Had she been taken to a hospital they would have correctly dealt with her alcohol withdrawal. She would have been forced to accept she was an alcoholic and her liver would have repaired. Yootha Joyce was depressed at thinking she’d be forever typecast as Mildred and never get anymore work. I actually believe had she lived she’d have got the next career move when Eastenders started in 1985. She would have also had British Directors and writers in the late 80s early 90s (who watched her when young) lining up to work with her. It was such a waste!
@@ScottCornwall Thanks! I guess my details were a bit sketchy, but overall I was on the right track! Ironically, I am 53!
actually it's mr fourmile
Poor Mildred, she is a loving woman, but George is just not up for it
Hey ❤
