    My favorite dropshot bait this season has been the Strike King Baby Z-Too. Similar to the zoom fluke Jr and the dimiki armor shad, but made out of Elaztech. Great colors and a nice finesse action when it's sitting still in current.

    I use the Keitech Easy Shiner in Electric Blue and Chartreuse and fish it with an Owner #2 springlock screwed into the head and an Owner 1/0 circle hook. It slays around docks at Lake of the Ozarks. Awesome video. This is my second favorite technique. Dropshotting is a blast year round.

    I am big fan of drop shot, I keep a drop shot rig on my yak for every trip year around. I do a lot of drop swimming. I also like to keep a drop shot dragging or swimming behind me as I drift fishing with another rod in my hands. Catch a lot of bonus fish that way. Just have keep eye on it though.. I want to get a better dedicated rod for this year. Gonna check out rod your suggesting for sure. Big swim baits & drop shots are my favs

    Thought on a longer rod for dropshotting? This year I switched to a 7’0 light expride vs a 7’1 medium and ml slx, 7’4 medium curado and LOVED the light action. I don’t think I lost one fish on it vs the stiffer rods. I’m definitely of picking up a 7’6 light imx pro for finesse seimbaits and hair jigs. Thinking of getting another one for dropshotting shallow water and keeping the 7’0 light or switching to a 6’10ish ml for 3/8-3/4oz weights vertically fishing deep and drifting on the st Lawrence

    anyone else like the VMC spinshot hooks? it has two line ties. one for the leader and one for the weight. i tend to like this better than tying a palomar knot and sometimes you weight gets hung up so with the spinshot (no line twist either) if the weight gets hung up you don't lose your hook/bait and weight.

    I'm trying something new today. I bought a lunkerhunt wire arm and I'm going to put that on a 2.5oz 6inch. swimbait. • @Saber_Outdoors

      Get a 3000 size, and spool it with 8lb braid it all the way to the core with minimal backing, buy the 300yd spool not the 150. If you put in enough time on the great lakes looking for smallies, you’re going to run into a big lake trout, salmon, or steelhead on accident. If you went small on the reel size or the line capacity, you’re going to regret it. Plus the bigger spool casts further and picks up line faster. Vanford 3000 would be excellent

    • @midwestfischerman
      @midwestfischerman Před 2 lety +3

      @@jamesh7469 I agree 100%, great calls. You definitely need to be prepared when on the Great Lakes, when you set the hook you never know if it's a 12" smallie or a 12-pound steelhead or brown trout!

    • @jamesh7469
      @jamesh7469 Před 2 lety +2

      @@midwestfischerman I had a 30lb lake trout eat my blade bait. Hell of a fight on my curado 70.
      The scariest thing to into hook is a salmon, it’s uncommon but there is like 1-2 months where they can be occupying some of the same areas as the bass and you might run into them. They don’t jump like a steelie, they don’t head shake like a laker, they just take off like a torpedo. When they’re still fresh and chromed up before the spawn run begins, they will spool any spinning reel with less that 200yds of line on it. You basically just have to set the drag as tight as you feel comfortable and pray. Absolutely nerve wracking knowing there’s nothing you can do

    • @midwestfischerman
      @midwestfischerman Před 2 lety +3

      @@jamesh7469 WOW, you said it about fresh run king salmon!!! You hook into one and you are convinced you hooked a submarine, PURE POWER!
      From late August through October I tend to use a 4000-size spinning reel with 20-lb Fireline Crystal. The Fireline Crystal I find is more abrasion resistant than other superlines, and it's much easier to cast than 20 lb. test mono or fluoro. That time of year is the only time I actually target king salmon from shore in Chicago boat harbors.
