  • Finally! The tricks that make all the difference! When should you throw a swim jig instead of a chatterbait? What about just throwing a swimbait? What makes one better than another? Its time to find out exactly what each bait is for and when to switch between them!
Chatterbaits are incredible lures! They're ability to catch fish is rivaled by only a few other lures. But do they have a weakness? Of course they do! That's where the swim jig steps in. Understanding the differences between the chatterbait, swim jig, and swimbait will help you catch fish day after day. Learning to use these baits as a system instead of sticking with a single option will allow you to adapt to changing conditions on your lake.
Below you'll find links to all the baits discussed in the video. We've included our favorite colors and weights for each, as well as our favorite trailers to compliment each style. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

One of the biggest advantages to the chatterbait that nobody ever mentions is the feedback you get from the vibration of the bait. The vibration makes the chatterbait really easy for new or inexperienced anglers to feel lite push bites and weeds witch will help them understand what the bait is doing at all times.

I tried a chatter bait yesterday for the first time finally, and I was amazed at the feedback. I went back and fourth between the chatter and a swim bait I had tied on another rod and found myself feeling lost with the lack of feedback. I think I found a new go too.

Matt, I always learn something from your videos, and TW is always happy after I have watched one. I have had a lot of luck catching bigger bass on my lake with the Coolbaits underspin and 3.5Inch Keitech Easy Shinner but only in Black Shad. Did they stop making that color?

Thank you so much as always. Can you make some commentary with regards to depth of water and when to use each one and when not ?

Dirty jigs finesse swim jig with 3.8 Keitech is still one of my favorite setups. I still prefer the keitech as my swim jig trailer.

Great video as usual, but my curiosity never ends when I know other great alternatives for trailers that for me personally gave so many times great results in tough situations, fished even raw without the regular jigs for them but with ned or offset. And I'm not talking about just Bass cz I'm from Europe :D > for that spunk shad there is Illex aka Jackall // I-shad or I-shad tail and for the creatures there is Scissor comb which not many manufacturers are even getting close to that. Please keep this in mind and perhaps you will give it a try for a next time. Best regards and all the appreciations and respect for everything that you're doing.

My new favorite swim jig is actually one of the cheapest ones I have found. Strike King swim jig mixed with a rage toad

Hey Matt, great video. I just got my first baitcaster and I'm looking for a good all-around rod to pair it with that can do swim jigs, swim baits, chatterbait, and texas rigs. I'm seeing Medium Heavy come up a lot in my research, but no one is being specific on the action. Should I be looking at MH/Fast or MH/Moderate-Fast for what I need? Thanks.

Shad is also a fairly wide bodied bait fish. Especially when they get huge like half a pound or bigger.

Another informative video from T.B. I definately prefer chatterbaits over swim jigs..like to feel that blade workin'. the 8 thumbs down are older bass, from different states is my guess..

Great video! The chatterbait is my favorite fish finder and I usually throw it on 18 lb Sunline Sniper. How long is the 16lb shock leader you’re throwing with the braid to Fluro leader? Are you throwing that for distance on your cast?

Have you ever tried a bellows gill at a chatterbait trailer. I was thinking it might give you more stability when throwing it near wood and prevent snagging it. Kinda looks like a wider spunk shad but wasn't sure what kind of action it might have. Thanks again for all you do.
