www.kbb.com/Kia/EV9/
The Kia EV9 is a big deal being the first non luxury 3-row electric SUV coming to the U.S. market for seating up to 7 passengers, and it moves Kia towards their commitment to become a future leader in sustainable mobility and their goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.
From the look of the EV9, the future is NOW. It rides on Kia’s E-GMP platform and utilizes Kia’s fourth generation battery technology. Its boxy shape, big wheels, short overhangs, and 7.8 inches of ground clearance give it a brawny look, and the vertical tail lights and digital pattern lighting on the tiger nose grille give it some sci-fi vibes.
The EV9’s wheelbase is 7.87 inches longer than the Telluride’s which should translate to some good interior space for occupants. Despite its blockish appearance, the EV9 has a drag coefficient of just 0.28 which is achieved through a 3D sculpted underbody cover, air curtains integrated into the front bumper, and aerodynamic wheels.
The EV9 will be offered in rear wheel or all wheel drive. A standard and long range RWD model will be offered with a 76.1 or 99.8 kWh battery and will have 215 and 201 hp respectively. No, that’s not a typo, the model with the bigger battery gets less power but that long range battery is good for up to 300 miles of driving while the smaller standard RWD battery only gets up to 223 miles of range. The Long Range AWD model has the same 99.8 kWh battery with a dual motor setup that delivers 379 horsepower, and 443 lb-ft of max torque. That’ll get the EV9 to sprint from 0-60 in around 5.3 seconds and will have about 270 miles of range. The AWD GT-line model get’s a bump in torque and will have 516 lb-ft.
The EV9 will have fast-charging capabilities of up to 218 kW, and 15 minutes of charging can provide up to 148 additional miles, and that fast charge capability can get a 10-80% state of charge in around 25 minutes.
If there’s no where to go while charging, you can position the seats in relaxation mode so you can sit back, relax, and watch all the KBB videos you desire. The EV9 will also have an integrated Charging Control Unit which includes vehicle to load functionality. This lets customers use up to 3.68 kW of power from the EV9 to power things from laptops to electric grills.
As heavy as the EV9 is, it still has some fun potential as if you were driving a high powered Kia Telluride which is great. If you’re looking to tow with your EV SUV, the max tow rating for the AWD models is 5,000 lbs and for RWD it’s 2,000 lbs.
Some standard safety tech on the EV9 will include forward collision avoidance assist, blind spot warning, lane following assist, and Highway Driving Assist.
The North American debut of the EV9 will have available advanced Highway Driving Pilot which will support level 3 autonomous driving that will use 15 sensors, including 2 LiDars, and this will give the EV9 a full 360 degree field of view for obstacle and collision avoidance. Keep in mind this system only supports level 3 autonomous driving, but still needs to be approved by the U.S. government.
Driving is important but what about the inside? Well, the interior of the EV9 looks and feels great, ingress is easy with wide opening doors, plus there’s plenty of space. Kia’s pledge for sustainability is shown through their use of recycled, bio and sustainable materials throughout the cabin, and the thoughtful use of space and flat floors which is made possible thanks to that longer wheelbase and low mounted battery pack.
Along with comfortable seats, there’s also a massage function which could help for those long hauls. There are various storage spots around the cabin, a wireless charger, 12 inch digital gauge cluster and 12 inch infotainment screen, but there’s no available wireless apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, charging won’t be an issue because all 3 rows have USB-C charging outlets. As far as cargo, behind the 3rd row there’s 20.2 cu-ft of space, and with the 2nd and 3rd row folded, cargo volume increases to 81.9 cu-ft. If you’re curious, there is a frunk.
There's no exact trim breakdown yet, but great options like 21 inch wheels, 360 degree camera, remote smart park assist, panoramic roof, Meridian sound system, head-up display, and 2nd row captain's chairs will be available options. The EV9 is expected to debut in the states towards the end of 2023, and will be the first Kia EV to be assembled locally in West Point, Georgia at the beginning of 2024.

The design of this vehicle is absolutely beautiful. Good job Kia.
KIABOIZ!!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wow drag coefficient of 0.28 for that massive boxy SUV is quite amazing
I will say that I appreciate that Kia heard everyone's feedback on the EV6's dual use climate and audio controls and split them out. Do I think this is better? I don't know. But it's a creative choice that I can understand! Good job, Mike! Hope you enjoyed SK!
😅😊😊😊😅😅😮
🎉
Honestly, I don’t get why everyone complains about it. It doesn’t bother me in my Sportage. First, you get used to it and second, audio controls are easier on the steering wheel or screen anyways.
American consumers are too lazy to learn anything new. There's nothing wrong with that dual climate/audio controls. I think it's clever
❤xe về việt nam Có nguyên bản không cắt thì buồn
Immediately a segment leader. Just wow. I love when they push the concept design into production. I dont need it as a single male but I definitely love it
Helps when it's the first and only one in its segment. The only comparable vehicle is the Rivian R1S but costs at least $20-$30K more.
Definitely not a segment leader. Telluride and Palissade have one of the worst reliability and quality reports in the segment, and this is the same segment. New Kia and Hyundai EVs also have plenty issues, I doubt people will sway towards this cheaply made overpriced pos
Just wait for the GT1 to debut. Sounds like a solid stinger successor.
@@Brian-jv8iyare you looking at the right reviews and testing? Both of those cars have great quality inside and reliability. Coming from someone that worked with multiple car dealerships and went to see who actually bought cars into service, those cars have normal service issues, meaning OL, ROT, Fluids and normal checking. Maybe a battery died here and there but those car are built well and if anyone were to buy them you can definitely get 150k+ miles with normal overtime issues such as maybe the water pump failing, brake changes, battery changes. Literally the small stuff that is normal not oh my transmission is violently jerking because it's about to fail or oh my ignition coils are failing because too much oil pressure from the engine which can also lead to other major issues such as burning oil and potentially leaks. These things are nowhere near common on those cars.
As a family man with young children, who’s not quite ready to get a family EV, I’m excited that there is plenty of time for Kia to push Toyota to develop and release a 7-seater EV by the time I’m ready!
No swivel seats?!?!?!? NOOOOOOOO AMERICA IS SO BORING 🙄😮💨😭😭
because Americans will use them as gunner seats 😂
I know, babies can sit backwards, if it's safer for them why not adults?
No side camera mirrors either but that's a good thing
Not sure why it doesn’t have them because the old Chrysler minivan had that option
@chris8sirhc and it was touted as a big selling feature
Kia is killing it. I can't believe it, I would drive a Kia for sure 😮
I agree. I remember people would laugh at Kias or Hyundais but damn they look good and are reliable now
12 dead. because of KIA hyundai
Looks, yes but long term reliability is still an open question. There’s a reason they are pricing their vehicles so aggressively, they are compromising under the hood to give you that stylish appearance.
@@dwadd7528i work at kia and the updates are declining break ins over time when i first started we would get a break in at least 3 or 4 times a week now its dropped to one every other 3 weeks so its making a difference also its only the older models with the key ignition, keyless ones aren’t an issue at all just wanted to throw this out there, newer models are really killing it
@@emed1977bro what are you talking about ? 😂😂😂😂 obviously you aren't getting informed about how successful Kia has been in the last 5 years !!! Get informed first dude 😎
Whoever is getting stoned and designing these Kias and Hyundais, I say keep doing it! The most creative and bold designs I've seen in cars for quite a while.
😂😂😂
Great review of a beautiful new EV. Hope you had fun in South Korea, Mike. This thing is gonna sell like hotcakes to the high-end urban SUV crowd Stateside.
Mikey Worldwide!!!! Nice work my man! That EV9 might be a game changer. Looks very well put together. All the specs and tech look great. Also I love how Micah had to make a cameo...what a diva lol :)
Haha thanks Bear!
As a Tesla Model Y owner (7 seaters), I am VERY IMPRESSED with this Ev9. That 3rd row looks functional! I might consider switching but I would need to see a lot more reviews and in-depth reviews of the infotainment. I would hope it has the ability to watch youtube and other videos while charging.
I have to disagree. I would not buy this Kia over a Model S, or a Model 3 or a Model X as well as a Model Y! Teslas are eight years ahead of any other car company and they’re S-E-X-Y!
@@cliffx7 Elon Musk is a tool.
@@cliffx7 Until all of your body panels start to separate from each other
Same here Model Y owner who has been looking at a X for the third row but it’s way too much
Same situation. We have a 3rd kid on the way and the while my oldest can ride in the 3rd row of the MY, she’s gonna hate it pretty quickly. The R1S and Model X are simply too much.
KIA design team deserve a raise and recognition
The design of this vehicle is absolutely beautiful. Good job Kia. 🥰🥰
Took the telluride and slap the robocop filter on it 😂😂 love this guy
Go Mike Dangerrrrr! Another killer extremely informative review! Keep up the outstanding work. 💪💪👍👍
Much appreciated, Booker!
한국에 오신걸 환영합니다😃
Welcome to Korea!😄
Thanks for havin me!!!
I migrated to the US from Asia years ago but i still cant visualize in my head what a Cubic Feet is. 😂 Micah stop interrupting Mike Danger on his Metric System 😂
The metric system is stupid. You have feet don't you? Now imagine your foot making up 6 sides of a cube. Why is that complicated?
@@Josh-179 Metric system is so stupid that the US military and medical use Metric and every country in the world except for 3 uses it.
Great review, very helpful for someone considering this vehicle. Thanks!
One of the best tag team vids. Hahaha keep up the awesome work fellas!
Your reviews keep getting better. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Jonah 🙏🏾
yea fr ngl didnt like him at first but he cool now lmao
@@insooleedat1asiandude 🤣 well damn it In So Lee I’m happy to have changed your mind, bro 😂
I agree! Mike's videos are really good. Except for Micah butting in randomly. J/K Micah, you're awesome (as is Mike) 👍
Good review, Mike! I must say I quite like the look, but wonder what the real world range will be when loaded up with people. Either way, I am curious to see which performs better as a family road trip vehicle: the EV9 or ID Buzz.
Weight doesn't affect range and consumption as much in an EV as it does in an ICE car, because an EV can recoup most of the energy when stopping. A bigger factor is aero, especially at highway speeds.
MIKE! Thanks for the informative, and fun review! This or the R1S for the next family mobile. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watchin’, Josh!
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this ev crossover
The Kia cruise control system is great in their current lines. Very smooth. Looking forward to the final us details. Sadly these won’t be msrp until end of 2024 when they are built local.
Lmao at Micah dropping in & schooling danger.... Love KBB man!
Glad I could chime in. 😂
I love the fact you mentionned being 6,4 as this is my size also and very hard to compare with many people showing cars. You have me as a new subscriber now!
Glad to have you, Francis!
Dangerrrrrrrr never disappoints.
This or the VW ID Buzz...tough decisions coming from a Pacifica PHEV owner.
Haha. Just sold my Pacifica hybrid. I loved that car, but wished it was a full ev. I’m also looking into the buzz or ev9. Just hope they won’t be too pricey.
VW will be more practical as its literally a van so if that's something u care about go ID buzz! The retro but modern look is also cool. Thinking it will have better space in the 3rd row and behind it for cargo as no SUV is better than a minivan for that
@@Carfan678 The problem w/ the buzz is that it doesn't have the traditional US minivan functionality like removal 2nd row seats, foldable 3rd row or storage.
Also the VW infotainment sux compared to hyundai's. but both of these vehicle lack the range needed to be good family road trippers.
Those are the two I'm looking at as well. I need something to accommodate my 3 kids in car seats. The wife likes the powered sliding doors of the Buzz and I like the price (and potential EV tax credit if built in the U.S.) of the EV9. I don't think I'll be disappointed in either but if the price difference is high enough I might go with the Kia.
Great, detailed review and the guy is charming 🙂. EV9 looks futuristic and comfortable.
Kia’s design department delivers again!
EV Telluride built in the US, hopefully this qualifies for the full EV credit once in production. I wish the frunk was Ford lightning size aside from that, if the stealerships don’t meddle with pricing, this will be awesome.
Stealership will ask one question. Left or right? Kidney for markup over MSRP. But hey you get to choose which one.
They will
Great review Danger! Hope you get to enjoy some Soju.
I did I did! It was a great experience out there! Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Man… I love you all reviews… love the language, approach, casualness, fun and always positive.. energetic.. I mean you guys rock!
Thanks for that, Jairo!
I love pretty much everything about the EV9. My only remaining concerns would be charging infrastructure (if they adopt NACS), battery technology (battering conditioning for charging), and the built in navigation solution for finding vehicle chargers (maybe not an issue as long as it integrates with Google Maps and accurately predicts range).
if Hyundai adopts the NACS then i would consider getting the EV9
@@SKJT93 Hyundai and Kia have adopted NACS.
Even if they don’t have the NACS port, just use an adapter. You don’t need a NACS port to use a NACS charger.
@@gregoryneedsaname I am aware :)
Great video Mr Danger!!! This is a great suv now i have to wait on buying my qx60 to see how this compares
Thank you Mr. Giles! The QX60 was my first solo KBB review 🥹
😊the kia ev9 is beautiful its spectacular interior its short and long duration batteries are great its 2wd or awd version the only thing that always has a small disadvantage is the third row otherwise excellent
I have had the a Kia Sportage, Cadenza, and now my second Sorento, I am for sure getting the EV9 👍🏽
The Robocop comparison is dead on. What a sweet looking SUV.
Adding this to my must buy list. Seriously a solid EV thats going to be affordable to the masses. Also Micah, don't you have helicopters to fly or cars to review on your own channel, let my man mike do his thing...
I don’t know what you consider “affordable” I think this thing is going to be around 50-70 grand.
Ok rich liberal sheep
+1, Micaha’s ad-libs kinda came off as micromanaging. I guess it was supposed to translate to comedy, but I’m pretty sure Mike could’ve made his own corrections in edit. 🤷🏾♂️
$50-70 ain’t much nowadays.
While Micah does his own channel, he's still the leading voice on KBB.
He is 6'4", a bit taller than 5' 9", an average US male height. 😆
The EV9 fits him fine in all three rows, this is much bigger than it looks.
I only watch when you're on!!!
great review - thanks!
Thank you for your great review! Kia is on point! Love the EV!
Remarkable combination of Technology, Functional Design.....a whole Rational Definition of Modernity......Congratulations to the KIA Engineers
Amazing effort by KIA, and a very very good car review! Thank you guys!
Thanks for watching!
I'm a Tesla lover but man, looking at this just made me think the age of the EVs are upon us, there's no denying
I think the haptic buttons needing more force makes sense, in many cars it is too easy to accidentally hit and change the wrong stuff trying to feel your way to the right button.
True, but can be distracting when driving and the screen won’t turn back to navigation and your turn is coming up in 100 feet. I think it would be great to have the option to adjust sensitivity, then you can please everyone!
@@yesmikedanger Oh no! Gawd forbid that you can't get back to navigation and your turn is coming up! 🤣You'll have to do like us with our old cars from the turn of the 21st century 😂 We are relying too much on technology, which worries me sometimes.
From a design standpoint, inside and out, this is looking like a home run for Kia. So much tech and futurism without losing and of the bold and boxy SUVism that markets continue to love.
Where are you guys testing this car that you were able to use a Kia K8 as a follow car?
-nvm. Addressed in video.
Another cool EV we won’t see for 3 years and $20k dealer markup. Sweet!
Wow. Hyundai and Kia are making some serious waves... This is on my list to see it in person and go for a test drive
Looks super good! It seems v luxurious to me
I mean it’s teetering on that level, right??
Swivel seats look absolutely amazing
I love this, I can’t wait to buy one when it comes to the states! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Very nice SUV... was waiting for this one for a long time .. just not happy with the range specs..
Micah's commentary 😂😂😂
S. Korea makes the most beautiful vehicles 😍
Mike + Micah = 😂 Now quit interrupting, Micah! Wait for your turn to drive the EV-9 with your family 😁
One thing that I noticed about the EV-9 is that there are no shiny black plastic surfaces on the dashboard and door panels. Good job KIA!
We will be making these at my plant in westpoint Georgia!
Damn, I'm excited about this car. I currently have a Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy, but really like this car from afar. I just hope the price won't be ridiculous.
Dealer markup will be ridiculous though.
Going to be cool to see how this stacks up against the R1S
Great review, if he is 6’4’’ then this car is bigger than it looks on camera. Maybe I’ll be able to afford a used model in 8-10 years!
And by then you will need to put a new battery in it…
It’s gorgeous
Side and back views need to grow on me. Solid vehicle
This car looks incredible, good job Kia.
This is sooo beautiful
I really like it. It reminds me of a BIG Kia Soul.
Can already tell this will be a banger
Micah has convinced me: Team Danger all the way. Metric!!!
Nice but I sure it will start about 60K and pushed toward 85K fully loaded
do you have to touch the steeering wheel during the highway self drive?
Lol, this one was hilarious, great work guys!😸
Can't wait to see how it stack up against rivian's R1S.
Great video, but stick with the metric measurements since majority of the world uses it.
Mike, I like you even more with the metric data.
Lol!!! Aw thanks 😂
It's definitely nice. It makes sense that someone would bring a large three-row EV SUV to market. I'm sure lots of people will buy it without thinking too much about use cases that maximize the value of owning a large vehicle that focuses on interior space and passenger comfort. I would want the large size for road tripping, and the facts are that it is a downgrade from ICE and hybrid in terms of range, re-fueling time, and price - but my opinion doesn't consider any cost savings in terms of fuel and maintenance. I am skeptical about savings on both because electric rates aren't going to go down and the intricate technology becoming more common in value brands has its own failure risks.
I agree with your train of thought in general. The towing rating of 5,000 pounds doesn't really matter when you can't go more than ~120 miles towing a full load. But for some people that may check all the boxes. But who knows-- I really need to buy my first EV so I can run it through the paces and formulate my own reality-based opinion. I spend a lot of time camping and exploring, so range is one of the most important things to me, so I'll likely wait for one of the EV trucks/SUV's that's pushing up into the 400-500 mile range (and something with an NACS port).
@@Kee_Diddy I have a truck currently and it's so clutch with towing and hauling stuff. EV's aren't there on trucks. The F-150 Lightning is laughable on range and price. The Rivian R1T is laughable on price and truck-like utility. If I was forced to buy an EV, I would buy a Chevy Bolt EUV before Chevy stops making them. Good amount of room inside for four passengers, nice cargo area, 240-ish miles of range (call it 150 miles in winter with an 80% charge). It doesn't have the longer range or fast charging you see on newer stuff, but it also doesn't have the price tag that goes along with that crap, and I would not use it to road trip, so 150 miles is plenty on a daily basis.
Also how much battery do you lose towing?
Looks good no doubt
Looks nice. But I wonder what the range is when it’s full of passengers.
Only can Mr. Danger make a three row 7 passenger suv look small when standing next to it lol
🤣🤣🤣
Stunning car…good job! Nice to see Micah too!
A Big Thank You from India...
0.28 CD is insane for a boxy SUV holy crap what magic are they using lol
Good video but kinda annoying with unit conversion interruptions
It must be expensive but I want to have one.
Exterior styling is about as exciting as my LG refrigerator
Dang, that's hawt. Kia, keeps knocking it out of the park. One of the best looking SUVs on the road..
I am shocked at the shortness of the range on it given where things are going but it looks nice.
Do you know how heavy this thing would’ve been if they increased the range.
@@al151 yeah that is a factor but after owning a Truck with 320 miles of range 300 is not enough When you add cold temperatures and highway driving will drop the range down to around 180 to 200 and that is no bueno
I'm suprised with a vehicle this size they don't have a long range option for a larger battery.
Mike fitting in the third row=huge vehicle...
i like the robocop comparison
14:45 Music by Micah…. I’m glad Micah is still involved in KBB videos somehow. Mike Danger has gotten dangerously god at these reviews! 😂
Wow Did you go to Seoul to drive the vehicle?
Beautiful, boxy, just what a family SUV should be. Detroit needs to step up, FAST.
Love the Kia and Hyundai EVs. I just wish their batteries had more range.
It has 300+ miles plus a charge time of 25 minutes. Thats plenty for 99% of trips! That’s drive for 4 hours, charge 25 minutes, drive for another 3.
@@aoreizi the all-wheel drive would the larger battery goes 266 mi. You are right that is good for most trips. However, my model 3 goes 350 mi, and it's all-wheel drive. In reality that distance is closer to 300 on a highway. But, there are Tesla superchargers everywhere whereas chargers for the ionic 5 are few and far between and unreliable.
@@daveromanyshyn1170 Yes, many factors affect range like powertrain, weather, speed, elevation gain/loss, etc. That being said, at a certain point the size of the battery (or available range) becomes less important and charging becomes the priority. With the Hyundai and Kia EVs, they charge really fast. In some areas of the country there are many fast chargers. In other areas not so much. That is where the improvement needs to happen, not so much with 300ish miles of range and fast charging speeds of up to 240 kW, that is sufficient for most drivers.
Aerodynamics are an amazing engineering feat.
Micah IS KBB!
great review, great car!
Kia boys waiting on this to drop
Did Kia say anything about when the GT-Line spec (not the GT) will be released?
Love the narrator.
Really nice car! Kia is doing a great job!
does the 3rd row seating have curtain airbags?
Best 7-seater EV 👍
I wish you Car Guys would do this in the winter so we can know how it is
