Actually the only flaw in this electric water pump is the fact that for whatever reason they decided to put a plastic impeller on it.
The previous generation hybrids had a belt driven water pump with a stamped steel impeller. It's not the electric motor that fails on these it's the connection between the shaft and the plastic compeller. This makes it an even stupider place to cheap out. Literally a few cents increase in part cost to go to a stamped metal impeller absolutely unbelievable. This failure can often end up leading to a head gasket failure, the other big failure on these engines is the EGR cooler assembly and the EGR valve plug up or fail to work correctly and can also cause a blown head gasket.

This is why I chose a plain Yaris over the more complicated Prius C when I bought my used car 4 yrs ago. The diff in MPG was not worth it.

Seems absolutely inexcusable to me that they cheaped out and put a plastic impeller on an expensive electric water pump period in the second generation Priuses you had a stamped steel impeller on the water pump shaft.
This failure often will lead to a head gasket failure after an overheat, apparently EGR cooler and EGR valve problems also plague this design and can also cause a blown head gasket.
What the hell were they thinking

Thanks for the followup, I was one of the curious people who wanted to know the resolution. It's not a surprise that things start failing after 100k. Fixing the impeller to the shaft shouldn't be a big deal. I have to say the pump and thermostat ass'y seem over-complicated and as a result overpriced.

Toyota Specialist, I need your help. I owned a 2010 prius and recently I am facing some issues. I have no check engine codes, but water is broiling out the coolant resovior. No waterpump code , no overheating sign. The fan comes on at 203 degrees. I perform the combustion leak test with the liquid, but no color change. I burp the system for hours the bubbles disappear but return when the cooling fan comes on. Could it still be air. What can I do to get out the remaining air. THANKS

I just got rid my Ct200h similar mileage. I loved that car but it started to vibrate/jerk when you initially start it. The check injection light did show that it was a multiple misfires. Found out that the egr system gets clogged and ends up heating the engine that it might damage the head. Didn’t want to deal with it. Great car but the engine was a VERY BAD DESIGN.
