Ever since I was a teen I always wanted to drive a real car with a controller. As someone who played hundreds of hours of Forza it made sense. It was a control method I became a pro at and I think it would result in much faster reaction time having the snappiness of triggers and analogue sticks over a wheel you have to crank around
I'm sorry but as a mechanic for a living I HATE control-by-wire systems for some parts. Modern cars have throttle-by-wire and some have brake-by-wire which seems okay so far but steer-by-wire is a MASSIVE risk. This idea is garbanzo beans
It's actually a pretty great idea honestly, many people are familiar with driving in games on controller, it's not something only a small percentage are familiar with, infact, i'd say a huge amount of people would intuitively understand how to drive using a controller. Heck, I know I would, and I barely play racing games.
@@jmurray1110maybe not but it's not that bad, most of what cars do in gta V is fairly realistic, minus the reaction to impact damage as real cars handle that significantly worse. But acceleration, turning at high speeds, rolling when you release the clutch/brakes, weight affecting performance based on passenger count and so on all are things that work in real life, ironically most racing games get that wrong, in things like gran turismo and forza your car just does not turn when you're going faster than 30, meanwhile in real life cars are quite capable of turning well at speeds in excess of 80-90+ especially when they are designed with downforce in mind.

If accessibility is your aim, the best option is a steer by wire yoke with throttle and brake controls on it. Controllers are objectively the least accessible peripheral possible. If you need to counter steer, or otherwise correct, you can feel how the car is pushing back to know if you’re over correcting. On top of all of that, the steering wheel provides support and stability when you’re getting hit with lateral Gs in situations like swerving or recovering from a spin out.
