@humanity Insaniyat It seems Tariq Ali Saab is ignorant of the teachings of Islam. Muhammad used to send assassins to kill anyone who would just simply talk against him. Sahi Bukhari and Muslim are filled with Ahadees where Muhammad used to burn people and rape women (Sahih Muslim 3371). Muhammad even allowed children to be killed (Sahih Bukhari, Kitab ul Jihad, Hadees 3012)

Religious radicalism has deep roots in the Pakistan Movement - Quiad capitalized on Islam to define a community, overlooking its unpalatable consequences. This exploitation had made it clear to the Islamists that the newborn nation was for Muslims. At the inception of Pakistan, two variants of Islam were there: the Muslim League who devoted towards a political order based on Islamic Social System drew on democratic principles, the fundamentalists were committed to a theocratic state. These two variegated elements found themselves in a conflict that in turn discouraged consensus building and prompted a culture of 'compromise' and 'concessions.' This obstructed constitutionalisation. Iranian Revolution mingled with the Zia's Islamisation. Pakistan served as a crucible for containing soviet expansionism. Pakistan became a battleground for the sectarian proxy war. Non-state actors were fostered to settle non-state's interests. Political parties, the PMLn, joined hands with the islamists to capitalize on their vote bank. This again fostered a clientelistic relationship where ruling party gave concession to these radical parties.
Concisely, Pakistan internal power structure is a kaleidoscope hijacked by the military, elites, feudal, industrialist and officialdom. They have misgivings towards democratisation because it will engender their vested interests. This illegitimate power equation have instrumentalized fundamentalist and radicals. The state is effete. Change will come from the civil society. It is a problem that haunts common people. So, the people have to come to the frontline.

All true, including the Kaleidoscope, but our civil society, no matter how much strength it gains will never be powerful enough to transform a radicalized society on its own. It needs to be a whole of government effort, and sad as it is, the only institution with the wherewithal and clout to do this is the miltestab. They broke it, theyre going to have to spearhead fixing this. And if all else fails, bring in a musharraf type to ataturk the hell out of Pakistan. Maybe like Turkey we'll get a few decades of peace out of it

Why don't you realise that the same kind of fundamentalists like Aashiq-e-Rasool live in India also who are ready to do anything for the Prophet and their Mazhab. Pakistani and Indian Muslms inherently share a lot in common, so the rise of RSS and other Hindutva groups tend to counter these fundamentalists. 37:38 "Musalmaano pe jang kar rahe hai, its open war". Preaching peace & tolerance in your own nation (Pakistan) & spreading unsubstantiated rumors about the plight of Muslims in India. While I agree, the govt is clearly pro-hindu & should do more to reach out to Muslims, throwing such baseless claims only widens the rift in a multicultural society that is India (which Pakistan has never been able to provide in 75 years).
Also, may I remind your honorable guest that India is the only country in the world with a sizeable Muslim population that has seen uninterrupted democracy for 75 years.

You fail to understand his point. Remember Tariq is a socialist atheist with an amazing history in civil rights movements! India is undoubtedly going through a major shift towards intolerance and especially towards Muslims. The creation of Pakistan was designed to deter that intolerance. Hindu unlike Europeans adhere to religious practices and eventually would conflict with other religious minorities. You can see signs of strong anti-secularism and tbh everything outside is regarded an anti! Here is the hypocrisy, everything outside is now making India! Wealth!

Problem is lack of basic broad based education. Some of these ill educated became so called Islamic scholars. Now how to make a living? We all know how that has worked so far. Add to that the thought process of some of our brethren returning from Middle East. God help us.

I have requested him many times to invite Manisha and eventhough Shehzad has been on newslaundry before, I think he has had some kind of trouble in extending them an invitation or maybe they have refused or maybe he already has a plethora guests and doesn't know much about manisha's work. Or maybe he hasn't seen my comment amongst the plethora of comments that he has to see.

Tariq Ali a great respect for you but you seem to be way off the mark in defining and painting india with the same brush like Pakistan.. with due respect India may have thousand defects and you may get to hear stray incidences of lynching of Muslims or Lower castes but these are far n a few though condemnable by all means n politically motivated to put down one party still India has a constitution which gives an equal rights to all people. You have urreny Indian president who is from lower caste, you had Muslim presidents in india n Modi is also from a backward caste and economically too. Stark difference between India n Pakistan is that there are no armed militia in india, Muslims growing in Population despite what's being claimed as narrative by Pakistanis n others as oppressed and reservations given to backward caste through constitutional means to bring them up... So it would be a request to correct your views n dont just allude to stray incidences in india as a rule to oppress people other than hindu which in all such cases are blown out of proportion by political parties for electoral gains. India is progressive n it is the resilience of Indians which driving india forward. That's the difference between india n Pakistan my friend. I believe I am clear in explaining the same. Would look forward to hear your views on my Comment...

What both our countries need to do is decouple our internal issues from our bilateral issues. Pakistanis need to care more about the fate of their fellow hindu Pakistanis than what Indians are doing to Indian muslims (excluding Kashmiris), and vice versa. This actually was exactly what Jinnah said he wanted to see happen over time, when he spoke of angularities, identity etc etc.
