That is why Callum was so sad at the end. However, a fully mature Mage will have the ability to use all of the magic in this world. Is that correct? The maturity of this level is that you must never give in in using Dark magic and being influenced like Claudia. Good catch because I missed that part.

And saying to Finnegrin that he helped him to understand it, because Finnegrin pushed Callum to his limits. I think that Callum discovered this while battling werther to use dark magic or not, and it ultimately helped him to discover the ocean arcanum and accepting the use of dark magic in the moment. But he still feels understandably regretful.

This is my favorite episode of season 5 it’s better than all the rest combined and it really shows how Soren felt about his dad and I really liked the song at the end of the episode
It’s really sad how Rayla was able to open up to Callum about something vulnerable and that she wasn’t sure how he would respond, but when it comes time for him to do the same he can’t do it 😞
He so needs his Big Feelings Time to trully sort out all the pile of disturbing things scince TTM that the creators better not forget that! His aftermath already has..: Rayla leaving him and lying to him at TTM (and at his birthday and after everything he did for her at the novel, lets not forget) + Rayla is yet to apologise for hurting him and lying (this didn't happend yet) + getting possessed by Aaravos + loosing Ibis + getting tortured + using Dark Magic again. Callum's non resolved Big Feelings are starting to get seriously overwelming.

I was a little overwhelmed when I saw this episode, all the dangers the team faced were crazy scary! Especially when Finnegrin froze Rayla’s blood and threatened to drop her in the leviathan’s mouth!
I felt really sorry for Callum this episode. He ultimately broke down and used dark magic to get out of his restraints, but I think in his situation literally ANYONE would. The poor kid was tortured and his friends' lives were at stake. I know it's also a slippery slope though, and I'm worried that the more he uses it, the harder it's going to be for him NOT to use it. We've seen a lot of parallels with Viren, and it's implied that he was once a normal guy who was devoted to his loved ones just like Callum. So I don't think it's unreasonable to think he could start down that same path if he isn't careful. Overall I thought Finnegrin was a solid one-off villain. I still felt like this was one of those side adventures or detours that we didn't really need, as it seemed like the only real purpose of it was to push Callum to his limit and awaken his Ocean powers (and I think they probably could have found a way to connect that more to the main plot). But still, it was at least an INTERESTING side adventure, and it kept me on the edge of my seat.
Same reasoning for why Viren resorted to dark magic to save Soren when he was fatally ill as a kid. Any loving parent in Viren's shoes if they had the means would move heaven and earth to save their child and no one should fault either of them for doing so in wanting to protect their loved ones. Personally when it comes to Viren's faults I took more issue with him wanting to kill the princes than his using dark magic when the situation called for it like when Harrow was we'll share in their pain with the other kingdom which yeah Viren had the right of it there that Harrow should have told them they're not in a position to offer such aid to the extent it puts his own kingdom's citizens at risk. A leader's obligation is to their own people first and foremost. Harrow was too altruistic to a terrible fault there and then for the next time with dark magic ultimately that was still Harrow's choice to kill the Dragon King and frankly he was well within his right. Anyway, I'm glad Callum was challenged on it and as for Finnegrin for all we know he could have been right to have wanted revenge on the ocean dragon given what we've seen of Sol Regen in the flashback as he probably isn't the only dragon that's an ass (Dragon King was too as even the earth dragon last season pointed out in being right).
We’ve seen plenty of instances of people using dark magic in ways that are beneficial and even noble. But ultimately I think the main issue with it is that it’s portrayed as something inherently corruptive-something that puts a stain on one’s soul. And I think that’s why, no matter how positive the result of dark magic may be, whether it’s saving Soren’s life or the lives of thousands of people, it’s a form of magic that’s so heavily discouraged. But yeah, I agree that it’s complicated. Because many of the things these characters are using dark magic for are things anyone would do if they had an option. If it could help us escape a dangerous situation or save a loved one, I think most of us would make that choice.
Viren sending Soren to kill Ezran and Callum and then gaslighting him about it was unforgivable though, yeah. It’s one of the main reasons I’ve never been particularly sympathetic to him. Sometimes, you can understand where a villain is coming from and even empathize with them. But Viren sending his own son to kill other children was on another level of vile, and undoubtedly more repulsive than any dark spell he performed.
@@supremeoverlorde2109 Not just other children but family friend children who his own kids grew up with (like just how could he have not foreseen Soren not going through with it as a result in showing he wasn't thinking clearly when he gave such an instruction) and as he himself said he viewed Harrow as a brother, but guess it really goes to show I suppose how his last talk with Harrow really effected his psyche at the time for him to resort to such an extreme yeah definitely him at his worse. When it comes to the succession I think he personally had the right of it given they're without a king rn and should have had in place a regent which he even offers to let I forget her name, but you know the one who should have just taken the position until the princes showed back up.
I could go on and on about how this episode was so amazing! I love the power of friendship thing they got going. Rayla and Callum were so protective of each other 🥺
BEST EPISODE OF THE SEASON, MY TOP 3 OF ALL SEASONS COMBINED- can’t WAIT to see your reaction! CALLUM WAS TORTURED 😭 RAYLA TOO- When Finnegrin froze Raylas blood in her veins, I honestly reacted the same way as Callum. And can we talk about how Callum straight up REFUSES to use dark magic, but whenever Rayla is in danger, he doesn’t think twice?? He used the same spell as he did in season 2, just to get out of the chains to save Rayla. I think that is why he looked guilty towards the end of the episode, and also why we saw the snakes. The hug at the end had me in TEARS- the “I’m glad.” Just KILLED me. These two are finally the two best friend / lovers that I remember. Absolute banger of an episode. I would say SO much more, but I decided to cut myself off. Time to see what you think about this episode! It’s easily a 10/10 from me. Easily. ALSO- totally forgot to mention that we have a Sky AND Ocean primal mage now. Absolutely insane! Ps, to answer your question there at the end, the sun seed is still hidden where Janai left it. 😉
It's an amazing episode but a terrible episode, I mean it's amazing BUT WHY CALLUM I'm not gonna lie if that was ezran I would care but not as much, if it was soren I would probs not really care, if it was violas probs same as ezran but if it was nyx I would straight up be happy about it😅😅😅. Lets be honest here. Callum didn't really have a choice so I will let the dark magic slide on this one. But two arcanes now, He keeps this up and he will be more then just the first human mage in existence. Also, Love the part were he punches, just shows his determination.
Finnegrin acts like a combination of Captain Hook from Peter Pan,Darth Maul and Count Dooku from Star Wars,Hama from Avatar the Last Airbender,and Negan from the Walking Dead.
It was so cool to see Callum and Rayla saving each other. I actually expected Finegrin to pick up Rayla's relationship with Callum from the beginning. It would have shown a smart person. He eventually found out about "your elf girl" Callum (Am I the only one who thinks this is funny?)
This is my favorite episode! I loved how it went so dark! I also believe that since Callum used dark magic, this only plays into the hands of Aaravos. I also wonder if Callum using dark magic helps him somehow understand an arcanum, it's happened twice now.
I was actually really glad about how much everyone got beat up (hear me out it's not as bad as it sounds 😭). It really sets that darker tone I've been excited to see. Well, that did and all those horses getting mauled (yikes). The cool reveal for me this ep was that Callum used dark magic, also the ocean arcanum thing. Another note that was going through my mind was how Soren was talking Deadwood (Elmer 💀) down from following Finnegrin. I was watching like, Soren knows this because he used to follow the orders of his dad blindly. He was the one doing the bad things in an evil character's name. He knows what it's like, then, in the scene he said that "I know what that feels like" aloud and it cemented all that.
The episode is so much better once the characters lose even a little bit of their plot armor. It makes them a little more relatable and more thrilling to watch. ❤

This episode is one of the darkest ones in my opinion. I feel so bad for Callum, but it also showed his loyalty to his friends no matter what. Although, it's also seemingly setting up for more dark magic Callum in the future. Great reaction by the way 😊
This episode is one of my favorites, it shows that its not just power of friendship and magic that will solve all your problems, this episode shows that world is full of madness and sometimes you need to hit the monsters on face to save people you care about :]
This episode had the best Rayllum moments it shows how Callum and Rayla will do anything to save each other can't wait to see in seasons 6 and 7 and see how Rayla is going to save Callum from Aaravos' control.
I find it kinda hilarious that Aaravos’s super secret prison location has a statue of him at the entrance haha they even reference him in the name of the sea
I too was surprised by Aavravos’s giant statue, but I think that it’s plants the seeds of his banishment backstory which will pay off in Season 6-7. But that is a nice reference to The Lord of the Ring: The Fellowship of the Ring.
Ok this episode really showed how much rayla and callum still care for each other, I am hoping for a kiss maybe next season cuz they are the best couple❤😂 this ep was my personal fave but ep four come in close
Callum better have a Big Feelings Time soon! Beacuse he needs to sort out his feelings for Rayla for real and someone needs to adress the fact that he did Dark Magic again! Ezeren got Bait Zym Hat Sneazels and Jelly out of that room... Hiw come he didn't see the snakes! Why none of them questioned how Callum got lose of the chains!? This s05 already had so much tension and S06 will need to have a lot of more things for our heroes to come around!

I was eating in the moment i watch the Callum torture scene, and i was so sure i was gonna throw up, im very sensitive to this type of things. And i cried when they offered their hands to be cut and Soren's torture scene, and i'll not even talk about Rayla's agonaized screamings effects on me hhehehh (i could not look to the screem). A sad episode, but essential for our chacters, for sure my favorite

I agree with the dark magic thing. It is very unpleaseant to find out he did it again. Though we know he wasn't geting free anyother way...I think...but still came to a very toublesome ending. He was also torture and all... so sure his brains weren't doing well. And he is yet to have a proper Big Feelings Time for all the situation since TTM. It is possible that Finnegrin survives 🤔 As strong and cunning as he presented himself, he should be able to fight a sea leviatan. But who knows 💁🏼♀️

I just learned that the show has been made TV-14 on Netflix! l think this could allow for even DARKER material in the future seasons! The story will get Darker with more Dark magic. Finally it’s more for adults the story is too dark for a kids show. Rayla and Callums big feeling time will be amazing. ❤
I am thinking immortal Laurelion, a possible Startouch Elf, was very close with Aaravos and her death solidified Aaravos’s hatred for Elves and Dragons. Elarion might be named after Laurelion. She may be the statue we see at the Sea of the Castout.

@@ReelJames I was thinking about how much Callum and Soka have in common and one of the biggest part is their story and convection of thou these people have what they(Callum/Soka) want they found and forge their own story with their minds and things that make them unique. To me that is the best part about all of Avatar and Dragon Prince. And I know that the creators will use that for Calum’s story

I've seen *way* more torture in my romance and found family - this just adds to my collection! 😊✨ Callum is my favorite character and he was really well executed here. Interesting connection others have pointed out is how he learns a new arcanum after using dark magic 🤔 Soren continues to be the MVP!!! Ezran did steal the glowtoads so he did something wrong. Also the saddle of the horses are from leather right. Also from an animal. @@ReelJames idk since in the comic of blood moon huntress when rayla was little elf but now she is all lot older , she might be able to get a few scratches on kim'dael but hers wounds / scratches would be worse then kim'dael's injuries in my opinion as we know kim'dael is all lot more experience then rayla, she won't be able to stop kim'dael without the help of Callum , that's my theory 😅
The callum intro episode last season. S4E4 was the best of Season 4. This one S5E8 is arguably the best of this season along with episode 4. I will say though, it kind of disappointed me how easily Finnegrin was defeated at the end but according to the comments, he might now rlly be gone👀

Personally when it comes to Viren's faults I took more issue with him wanting to kill the princes than his using dark magic when the situation called for it like when Harrow was we'll share in their pain with the other kingdom which yeah Viren had the right of it there that Harrow should have told them they're not in a position to offer such aid to the extent it puts his own kingdom's citizens at risk. A leader's obligation is to their own people first and foremost. Harrow was too altruistic to a terrible fault there and then for the next time with dark magic ultimately that was still Harrow's choice to kill the Dragon King and frankly he was well within his right. Anyway, I'm glad Callum was challenged on it and as for Finnegrin for all we know he could have been right to have wanted revenge on the ocean dragon given what we've seen of Sol Regen in the flashback as he probably isn't the only dragon that's an ass (Dragon King was too as even the earth dragon last season pointed out in being right).
We’ve seen plenty of instances of people using dark magic in ways that are beneficial and even noble. But ultimately I think the main issue with it is that it’s portrayed as something inherently corruptive-something that puts a stain on one’s soul. And I think that’s why, no matter how positive the result of dark magic may be, whether it’s saving Soren’s life or the lives of thousands of people, it’s a form of magic that’s so heavily discouraged.
But yeah, I agree that it’s complicated. Because many of the things these characters are using dark magic for are things anyone would do if they had an option. If it could help us escape a dangerous situation or save a loved one, I think most of us would make that choice.
Viren sending Soren to kill Ezran and Callum and then gaslighting him about it was unforgivable though, yeah. It’s one of the main reasons I’ve never been particularly sympathetic to him. Sometimes, you can understand where a villain is coming from and even empathize with them. But Viren sending his own son to kill other children was on another level of vile, and undoubtedly more repulsive than any dark spell he performed.
@@supremeoverlorde2109 Not just other children but family friend children who his own kids grew up with (like just how could he have not foreseen Soren not going through with it as a result in showing he wasn't thinking clearly when he gave such an instruction) and as he himself said he viewed Harrow as a brother, but guess it really goes to show I suppose how his last talk with Harrow really effected his psyche at the time for him to resort to such an extreme yeah definitely him at his worse. When it comes to the succession I think he personally had the right of it given they're without a king rn and should have had in place a regent which he even offers to let I forget her name, but you know the one who should have just taken the position until the princes showed back up.
I think the actual key to help Callum defeat Aravos is Viren himself. He is the one that will lead Callum to a better path
I could go on and on about how this episode was so amazing! I love the power of friendship thing they got going. Rayla and Callum were so protective of each other 🥺

CALLUM WAS TORTURED 😭 RAYLA TOO- When Finnegrin froze Raylas blood in her veins, I honestly reacted the same way as Callum.
And can we talk about how Callum straight up REFUSES to use dark magic, but whenever Rayla is in danger, he doesn’t think twice?? He used the same spell as he did in season 2, just to get out of the chains to save Rayla. I think that is why he looked guilty towards the end of the episode, and also why we saw the snakes.
The hug at the end had me in TEARS- the “I’m glad.” Just KILLED me. These two are finally the two best friend / lovers that I remember.
Absolute banger of an episode. I would say SO much more, but I decided to cut myself off. Time to see what you think about this episode! It’s easily a 10/10 from me. Easily.
ALSO- totally forgot to mention that we have a Sky AND Ocean primal mage now. Absolutely insane!

Lets be honest here. Callum didn't really have a choice so I will let the dark magic slide on this one. But two arcanes now, He keeps this up and he will be more then just the first human mage in existence. Also, Love the part were he punches, just shows his determination.

Finnegrin acts like a combination of Captain Hook from Peter Pan,Darth Maul and Count Dooku from Star Wars,Hama from Avatar the Last Airbender,and Negan from the Walking Dead.
It was so cool to see Callum and Rayla saving each other. I actually expected Finegrin to pick up Rayla's relationship with Callum from the beginning. It would have shown a smart person. He eventually found out about "your elf girl" Callum (Am I the only one who thinks this is funny?)
This is my favorite episode! I loved how it went so dark! I also believe that since Callum used dark magic, this only plays into the hands of Aaravos. I also wonder if Callum using dark magic helps him somehow understand an arcanum, it's happened twice now.
I actually think that the arcanum of the ocean helped Callum understand that, even tho he doesnt want it, he need that dark magic
I was actually really glad about how much everyone got beat up (hear me out it's not as bad as it sounds 😭). It really sets that darker tone I've been excited to see. Well, that did and all those horses getting mauled (yikes).
The cool reveal for me this ep was that Callum used dark magic, also the ocean arcanum thing. Another note that was going through my mind was how Soren was talking Deadwood (Elmer 💀) down from following Finnegrin. I was watching like, Soren knows this because he used to follow the orders of his dad blindly. He was the one doing the bad things in an evil character's name. He knows what it's like, then, in the scene he said that "I know what that feels like" aloud and it cemented all that.
The episode is so much better once the characters lose even a little bit of their plot armor. It makes them a little more relatable and more thrilling to watch. ❤

This episode had the best Rayllum moments it shows how Callum and Rayla will do anything to save each other can't wait to see in seasons 6 and 7 and see how Rayla is going to save Callum from Aaravos' control.
I find it kinda hilarious that Aaravos’s super secret prison location has a statue of him at the entrance haha they even reference him in the name of the sea
I too was surprised by Aavravos’s giant statue, but I think that it’s plants the seeds of his banishment backstory which will pay off in Season 6-7.
But that is a nice reference to The Lord of the Ring: The Fellowship of the Ring.

And i cried when they offered their hands to be cut and Soren's torture scene, and i'll not even talk about Rayla's agonaized screamings effects on me hhehehh (i could not look to the screem). A sad episode, but essential for our chacters, for sure my favorite

I agree with the dark magic thing. It is very unpleaseant to find out he did it again. Though we know he wasn't geting free anyother way...I think...but still came to a very toublesome ending. He was also torture and all... so sure his brains weren't doing well. And he is yet to have a proper Big Feelings Time for all the situation since TTM.
It is possible that Finnegrin survives 🤔 As strong and cunning as he presented himself, he should be able to fight a sea leviatan. But who knows 💁🏼♀️

Ehm people eat sausages right so also meat. Don’t know if glowtoads are rare and also wouldn’t want them eaten, but you can’t just steal the glowtoads. Think this is a little weird. Ezran did steal the glowtoads so he did something wrong. Also the saddle of the horses are from leather right. Also from an animal. So if glowtoads are endangered then I can get Ezrans choice, otherwise it was stupid because of the things I just said.

The callum intro episode last season. S4E4 was the best of Season 4. This one S5E8 is arguably the best of this season along with episode 4.
I will say though, it kind of disappointed me how easily Finnegrin was defeated at the end but according to the comments, he might now rlly be gone👀
