A Top Gear-like challenge would be fun. Give every presenter a set amount of money ($750 maybe?) and they have to get a hardtail. They can either buy a full bike or get a crappy bike and slap better parts. Once the bikes are done, they have to complete a set of challenges like...
· Hillclimb
· Blue descent
· Red descent
· A cross-country loop
· A city/town commute
When the challenges are all done, they all have to bring the bike to the same mechanic. Each challenge gives (or takes) points regarding positions (or maybe time difference a-la decathlon?) and the mechanic's opinion gives double or triple points.
You could release it in 2 or 3 parts for extra monetization. I'm sure it would be tons of fun!!!
yes Top Gear, not Grand Tour
"Taking it easy on north shore" then proceeds to do wheelies and goes 100 mph down it
when I do new jumps I find it helps to add a bar turn or a mini table so you don't stiffen up in the air
Ye I do that
That’s the only way I’m able to do jumps lol
3 videos in 1 day! what a treat from gmbn 😃. no other utube channel coulf turn out 3 good videos in one day
Bro its gnbn WTF its a professional chanel
"You're gonna need a parachute" yeah that's the trick for big drops... always carry a parachute
I've been working on different levels of fear on some of these things for years. Videos like this remind me of a quote attributed to J.S. Bach: "It's easy. You simply hit the right notes at the right time and the instrument plays itself."
Neil, the slow motion video is really helpful for us newer riders, i.e. when you did the drop off part. Also, re: hardtails, Vitus makes a nice line of slack hardtails at a reasonable cost. Anyway, nice work Neil..
Usually don't like scott bikes very much but this black and orange genius lt is. SUPERNICE! 😂
Learnt so much watching you guys during the lockdown, I checked other channels but always come back to GMBN. Neil you’re a legend
I love jumping, but I was a bit scared of gaps. So a few days ago I was in a small bike park and I was riding a red line. It started smooth, into a drop and I was flying down the hill and right in front of me was a huge gap jump. I knew I wouldn't be able to brake in time so I just committed and cleared it. Now I like gaps as well.
An observation, on banked turns N is not locked down onto the bike; he not only keeps his head more level, but even his body is more upright and while feet are on the pedals, he is moving the bike, leaning it more under him. Overall, the slo-mo implies a flexible give-and-take, positioning the bike in anticipation of the next few yards, absorbing the changes, and resetting/ recentering balance to repeat, rather than a lot of folks who seem to hit everything hard, then wrestle to recover before the next impact. The expression "don't overdrive your headlights" refers to keeping speed within the limits of the beams; for MTB descending, the same applies, ie don't outrun your control and position on the bike, which means everyone's controllable speed zone is going to be different based on experience, skill levels, bike setup, etc. As an old rider I elect to err towards fewer risks, as the rewards are just not that worth it. Been there, done a lot of that. If the scare factor > fun factor, I'm out. No one's keeping score. Have fun.
Great vid guys keep em coming

All of these videos are super helpful, differ from one another to add a new point of view
These guys do great vids!
Good advice!
hey thanks guys for acknowledging and speaking to that which we'd rather not- the dang sport is dangerous and sometimes scary. focus, technique and sometimes toning it down is all a part of the sport. nice job Phil et al.
your right Neil , any hesitation is a no no , either go for it or stop what your doing and go practice your technique , confidence is everything ;)
Great video
"IF YOU GO OFF THE SIDE ON THIS PART... YOU'RE GONNA NEED A PARACHUTE"... 😂🤣🤣🤣
Fantástico!!!
Red Giant, Fort William!! Awesome trail.
VERY NICE VIDEO 😀
WELL DONE ❕❕❕❕❕❕❕❕❕
Just try to ride on the sand dunes and try to keep balance when going though deep sand that helped me have better control
I ride like I drive...annoyingly slowly!...but I enjoy the lines I take in everyone’s dust, especially those that slide out etc.
"Whale sized holes" is that an imperial unit of measurement?
He said "wheel sized"
brian k haha
brian k lol
Yeah, needs to be a bit more Pacific
frfeeao,some should be banned
for drops practice riding street it really helps with confidence
nice vid
I recently had a hard fall off my bike. It is taking time to build the confidence up again. Perhaps there is a video to do on that? But otherwise this is helpful, thanks.
GMBN can you do more things with hard tails because half of us can't afford a full suspension
Alexander Santiago where is best to get them from
All the same techniques apply they are just a little less forgiving.
true hardtails rock , look at the jumps some of the slopestyle guys do on hardtails their massive , if you can learn to do ruff trails on a hardtail you will be a better rider when you get a full sus
Don't go bikesdirect. If you want a bang-for-your-buck FS I'd go Commencal, Canyon, or other direct-to-consumer brand.
If you want a more rugged hardtail you should try a "hardcore" hardtail. You can get these from Commencal, Kona, Orange, Chromag, Transition, etc. Commencal and Kona seem to have the cheapest.
Do some bmx stuff or at least more street and maybe trials
can you please do more for us oldies, advice on getting back into biking and looking back at the glory days of the 90's when it was more about having fun with your mates and less serious as it appears to be now.
4:30 is quite technical, drop with a slope, easy to stuff this up...
What woods were you in when you did the jumps section they look sick
@ASKGMBN this video is like no other video on mountain biking. please can you make a video on pre ride and post ride checks?
good luck in all of your future endeavors Neil!
what shoes are you wearing in this video? i'm having trouble finding a proper fitting shoe for my flat pedals
hey gmbn i find that when i am going through rock gardens on my hardtail the back wheel gets kicked up into the air do you have any advice
Yep and you always but always neves to maneuvre the bike like that boys always Stay cool and a hug from Portugal
Because ir turns whilest maintaaining a center of Gravity behind you
I am your fan you are best
Ahahaha I'm laughing at the board walk part because the last time I rode that exact track I slipped off the edge, got sent over the bars and knocked myself out 😂 the bike came up behind me and tore a huge hole in my t shirt 😂 thankful I wore a full face helmet that day
Went the wrong way on FOD downhill (grade 3 instead of 1), cleared the road gap and last table top on my 100mm XC hard tail. Landed entirely on front wheel both times (with a loud "f*** me!" at the DH guys watching on), still don't know how I stayed on, that scared the s*** out of me :) Can't wait to try again
@Global Mountain Bike Network What do you think of the khs 650b 200
Fun thing is my scariest part of the trails is not on this video: Gnarly climbs full of gravel. My town is full of them and someone falls victim of them almost every ride I go. The terrain won't sit under your bike and you're already pedalling at your max to get up... If you slide down, you're done for.
Maybe a video on how to ride multiple drops. There's this section of my local trails with big drop offs in rapid succession and I can't ever make it through cleanly
hit it with enough speed to make it one big drop. duh
If his frame doesn't snap in half, that is.
Like to see a video on Rotor size. Many seem to be going 200 FRONT 180 REAR ?
Have you got clip pedals 4:15
GMBN could you make a video where you completely take apart an air fork an explain how everything works and where what sits. Not only lower legs but also the top both left and right.
Can you do a video on how to service a coil dropper post?
Do you wear clips while doing trails, or flat pedals?
Where are you riding, the trails look really good, I'd like to try them
Nice clip boys and girls!
What is the model of your knee protection?
Looks like a nice hang gliding launch.
Could someone help me pick out a good full suspension bike for jumps and drops and bike parks. Thanks I would like it if it is in the 1300$-1700$ price range
That intro was nice
just send it🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Thats the Red Giant at fort william, nice descent.
I feel better after seeing your seat position. I have mine low like that, i feel it gives more stability. I'm new to mountain biking, and i get criticism from bike snobs to crank my seat way up. Just doesnt seem natural.
Hi how are you? Where was filmed this video? I am from Chile and I will visit UK soon. Thanks and nice work!
This one is in Fort William, Scotland!
29er FTW !
That's a rough rock section?! Come to Quebec,Canada lol
I should probably recognise it but where was this filmed??? I'm always on the look out for obstacles like these as I live in a pretty flat area and my mtb is just sitting there collecting dust.
GMBN I have a 150mm aion fork and whenever I pump in less then 80 psi, the fork will sink in and loose about 20mm of travel. However if I go above 80 psi, I can't get my desired sag. Any advice?
Sounds like it needs a fork service to get it working properly!
First time at big bear snow summit. Wish me luck hahaha
I like how many times he said, "hopefully."
One thing to mention with fast cornering is notice Neil's leaning the opposite way to the bike for the balance point. Lean in and chances are the bikes going from underneath you on that loose ground!
TrailRider
odd. pushing down not out.
TrailRiderMTB yep. I learned that the hard way because it's the exact opposite of riding a motorcycle :-) or :-(
going to need a parachute! lmao!
Neil, how is that Scott 29er, mate ?? Getting used to big wheels ??
Who else was at the us open downhill races
0:11 Neil.exe has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution for the problem
Lol
Can u guys sell u r shirt I really really love it so if u sell plz give the link
nice video. what's the id of the music?
Darude "sandstorm"
Hey GMBN, what's the name of the drum and bass song you used in this video? Sounds pretty groovy... P.S. I love you.
look awesome in slowmotion
Where is the trail from the first half of the video ?
What are good flat pedals for mtb and a little bit of riding street? My budget is around 50/60 euro, thanks in advance!
Boyd Winters you could try Dartmoor Stream Pedal. the price around $30.
If you go off that side you'll need a parachute! ha ha ha classic XD
Im looking to a bike that can climb but still do intense down hill lines what do you guys think would be a good bike for under 3000 us dollars?
Rowan CP giant reign bikes!!
Can do a wheelie for 2 seconds, trying a manual I can lift my front wheel about 1 feet above the ground, when I try a bunnyhop I just slip off my pedals... Any advice?
Drop your heels a bit more when beginning the hop!
I started feeling more confident and now my wrist is broken :/
What shoe do you have there Neil?
somebody knows where is this place???
I wish I had trails like that for my ebike
can you do some cheap upgrades ?
The course looks like the Nevis Red route on Aonach Mòr?
Thats the one :)
you guys should sell the cool GMBN zip ups you always wear
We do! Just head to our shop: shop.gmbn.com/
No I'm taking about the down jackets your guys have
I don't live anywhere near a ski resort or any mountains or anything but I really want to get into dh riding :(
How to avoid aggravating injuries after a fall?
"...you gonna need a parachute." Wahahaha!
