  • When does Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness take place? We placed it in the Spring of 2025 in our MCU Timeline v7, but is that correct? Usually the Disney+ timeline placements can be discarded as false, but is there any truth to the idea that Doctor Strange 2 occurs in 2024, before Hawkeye? We dig into everything we know to help us out.

Newspapers usually bury the retraction in the paper...so that it was done, but not everyone sees it.
This is really great to see the integrity of your brand being preserved and lauded...by owning it and continuing to show that your MCUTimeline is superior to the Disney MCU Timeline.
Another great video. Thanks for the clarification. Great catch and thanks for making it right...as we know you always will.
Just another reason why Marvel needs to hire your survices...for even the correction was done amazingly.

7:49 - I know this is going to sound weird, but...the events on Earth-838 are taking place in the year 2021. Just like the events of "Morbius" and the second "Venom" took place in 2020. In the post-credits scene, the Vulture will move from 2024 to 2020 (but in a different universe).
Time is an unstable thing in the multiverse, really. When someone (or something) moves from one universe to another, the time will not always be exactly the same. Pay attention to "What if...?". Watcher collected "Guardians of the Multiverse" from different universes, and everywhere the year was different. (Peggy in 2014, Party Thor in 2010/2011, Supreme Strange in 2018, Killmonger in 2009/2010)
And then there's Spider-Man: Into the Universe where Spider-Man Noir was pulled out of his 1930s universe. Well, yes, Sinister Strange mentioned Christina's wedding, which, according to the events of the film, was not so long ago. His universe takes place somewhere in the second half of the 20s.
In short, when MCU is 2024, it does not mean the same year in the rest of the universes.

Hey Dakota! You might remember my comment a couple weeks back about the day the Snap takes place. Now I can say with certainty it's either April 26th or 27th, 2018 - which also happen to be the Thursday and Friday opening days of Infinity War.
What cements this (on top of the two-week line What If gave us that I mentioned last time) is the flip phone that Steve gives Tony: when Tony is in the Sanctum before Maw and Obsidian's attack on NYC, the phone displays "Wed", so we know the first day is Wednesday the 25th. Now, you know I'm partial to the Snap happening on the 26th for the irony of it being "Thor's Day", but I think two days is a valid reading of the in-film timeline if the Quinjet Cap's team has is fast enough; they don't seem to spend too long in any one spot (they're in a bit of a rush, after all) and we only actually see one night pass on Earth, so they could MAYBE make it to Wakanda by early evening there (which we know it is, because the Snap happens at 10:24 am in SF. Time zones are a little wonky in this movie, but whatever). If not Thursday, though, it's definitely Friday the 27th. The line in WI and the Wednesday day from the flip phone is enough to put the Snap on one of those two days.

Regarding that Fandango article; I may be partially responsible for your initial confusion.
After I attended that early fan screening (which I can talk about now), I said:
"According to Fandango, the film takes place 'roughly a few months after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home'. This seems to be accurate, as the film appears to take place in spring."
My logic at the time was to start with any mention of its time-frame already on record and then compare it with the film as I could remember it. With no other mention of that time-frame, I'm not sure why Fandango thought it takes place a few months later, though I think I must've underestimated the importance of the word roughly in that sentence. (As you pointed out, it does seem more obviously speculative in hindsight.) Perhaps it was the orchard scene that threw me off? Or perhaps it was not being able to pause and notice background details. Either way, I remember thinking it correct at the time (or at least not thinking it incorrect) even though it wasn't corroborated anywhere else and it being phrased vaguely. But I can always rely on you to figure it out in the end.
By the way, Michael Waldron told Deadline's Hero Nation podcast that it was initially written with the expectation of being released before Spider-Man: No Way Home. That's got to have had an effect somewhere.

I still think MOM is in early to mid 2025, I just think that the "most recently" line means that NWH happened not too long earlier, but like a few months earlier actually.
also the dates being 2021 on Earth-838 could mean that Earth-838 in MOM is in 2021 at that time, which doesn't really affect much since it's another timeline/universe.
another also, I'd love if you did a video explaining how the MCU Multiverse works and how new timelines branch out, to then eventually become so different from other timelines that they become different universes entirely, though this video could just be your view on how it works, base on how the MCU has shown it thus far.
3rd also, do you think any of the Fox Marvel movies are canon to the MCU's Multiverse (since Disney has owned them for a few years now)? I'm sure Patrick Stewart as Professor X in MOM was supposed to imply that the Fox X-Men films happened in other branched timelines (I do mean plural, cause given of the continuity in those movies, it's likely they all came from the same branch, but then happened in different branched timelines from that branch, which would mean that similar events happened, and it would explain the many continuity errors, though I do wonder how far back it's original branch goes, given that Apocaplyse was around in 3600 BC, as well as played by Oscar Isaac, which will definitely not be the case in the main MCU timeline), meaning that that Charles was a Variant of the Fox X-Men one, but I don't know about any of the Fantastic Four movies or the 2003 Daredevil movie.

    • @Geekritique
      @Geekritique  Před rokem

That’s a definite possibility. The purpose of this video was to display all of the facts within the film, every reference to time and season, and there’s simply far more evidence it occurs in Fall 2024, over early 2025. I could be wrong though. 🤷🏻‍♂️
As for 838, there’s no evidence that MCU Chavez travels in time, because it seems a one-to-one jump between parallel universes. More likely it’s a mistake in the movie than a purposeful point that the timelines aren’t in sync.
I’d like to make a video on the multiverse! Definitely in the cards.
As for X-Men, no clue. I don’t currently consider any of them canon.

The only thing I argue is that the second half of NWH takes place after Halloween. Because someone yells at MJ to take those Halloween decorations down and then Peter looks at a witch ornament and that’s where he gets the idea to go get stranges help half way through the movie. So it’s probably early to mid November. Then at the end of the movie when Peter goes to the diner to give MJ the letter it’s already snowing and Christmas decorations are up. So we’re expected to believe that MoM takes place in the 1-2 weeks before NWH even ends??? So Strange fixes the spell at the end of the movie, then a day or so later MoM happens and concludes and then Peter goes to MJ at the diner?

I feel like you should add the fox X-men movies to the multiverse edition for 3 reasons
1.) Charles is played by Patrick Stewart and earth-838 Charles could be a variant of the fox X-man universe
2.) Earth-838 Charles says Just Because Someone Stumbles And Loses Their Way Doesn't Mean They're Lost Forever witch is a direct quote from Days of Future Past
3.) Deadpool 3 is said to be set in the Mcu
In my opinion the order for the X-men movies goes like this X-men first class, wolverine X-men origins, X-men, X2, last stand, the wolverine, days of Future Past, apocalypse, dark Phoenix, Deadpool, and then the new mutant ants and Logan because I Believe them to be set in a parallel universe and the word multiverse to me means parallel universes taking place in both past present and future times, and then Deadpool 2 in my timeline I put these after What if but before wandvision because of Evan Peters being in it, and again this is all just my opinion.

    - My current guess is that Ms Marvel takes place during No Way Home, between Peter's first day of school and when he starts receiving rejection letters from colleges.
    - That leads directly into when he visits MJ at work where her boss tells her to take the Halloween decorations down.
    - That seems to put that scene in early November, leaving plenty of space for MoM to take place a week or two later.
    - J Jonah Jameson says it's been a few weeks after the battle at Liberty Island when Peter is walking through the snow to see MJ at the end of No Way Home.
    - That snow is then on the ground during Hawkeye, which takes place the week of Christmas.
    - I place Ms Marvel where I do because during a couple of the credit sequences they show the Statue of Liberty prior to its redesign with the Captain America shield that was shown in No Way Home and mentioned in Hawkeye.
    - There are autumn leaves on the ground in her first episode and her guidance counselor only has data for "Q1" on his computer. Also the posters in the halls are all asking students to join school clubs and campaigning for school government. All of this points to early in the school year.
    - Eternals seems to also take place in the autumn based on the foliage and pumpkin in Phastos' suburban yard. Which autumn is the question though. It continues to bother me that nobody in any of the other shows/movies has mentioned the huge Celestial statue sticking out of the ocean.

***Mild Spoilers for Thor Love & Thunder***
Based on Thor's VERY specific reporting of how long it had been since he'd seen Jane, all we need is a better idea of when one of those two events happened and we'll know when the other happened.
Thor's personal story at the beginning of Love & thunder feels like it needs a little room to breathe, so I'm hoping it belongs in Spring of 2025. Maybe that matches with the pretty temperate weather we see in Norway? I'm not sure.
If so, that would place their previous parting in something like October of 2016.
If the last time he saw her in person was prior to or immediately after Age of Ultron in 2015, that would drag Love & Thunder into 2024, which makes less sense story-wise to me but is certainly possible.

Great video! There's a lot of evidence pointing to it being fall, however I do believe this is going to be retconned. We know now that America Chavez was intended to be in No Way Home meaning the film was 100% meant to be the fall. However thanks to covid the film released after it and they decided to remove her and have the film take place after the No Way Home. This explains why the trees and setting points to a fall setting but all articles (as well as reliable leakers from before the film hit theaters if that counts) said 2 month-ish after as they had to move the film. Unfortunately I think this is one of those times we have to go off the interviews 2 month timeframe but that's just me

I think wholeheartedly the film was meant to take place in fall 2024 like it was also meant to take place before No Way Home. But since covid fucked it up and it was moved to after No Way Home I do believe was moved to a couple months after now and that's where it'll happen. Like the trees being autumn based is good evidence but they are also largely still green which points to an early autumn placement not a late November placement. I think thanks to covid the films setting and background and the films placement in the timeline just aren't going to line up nicely.

Disney did not make a mistake. The Events of No Way Home take place right towards the end April into May during the Spring time because acceptance, rejection and waitlist letters may start arriving as early as February or March. But in some extreme cases, letters may not arrive until the end of April. Because of the events with Peter, Colleges withheld the sending out of letters in order to change their decision.

    • @Kal824
      @Kal824 Před rokem

Also Peter had to take his GED either during the summer or at least after the first semester in order for his score to be evaluated. Plus, in actuality... Both Spider-Man: NWH AND Dr. Strange in the MOM had to go under serious reshoots. MOM was supposed to release BEFORE NWH, which would have happened during Spring break, While Peter and everyone were in Italy and America Chavez was also supposed to appear in NWH... But, with the Pandemic, things got changed around, even with "WandaVision" being released BEFORE "Black Widow" and "The Eternals"

No Way Home elapses from July to November, with a short few scenes in the epilogue in December. July being the start of summer break, as it’s just a week after FFH, which is the start of their summer vacation. It runs through the start of the new school year (September) wherein early action letters are sent out to colleges. We know the main events occur in November as MJ’s boss tells her to take down the Halloween decorations.
As for release schedule, yes, MoM was supposed to drop before NWH originally. But both films were rewritten during the start of COVID to avoid any mixup. Eventually both would begin filming late 2020 around the same time.

    • @Kal824

@@Geekritique Well then Sony/Marvel made a mistake. If the events of NWH had taken place starting in July, there's now way they should've neve been getting ANY acceptance letters from colleges, because those are sent out in Feb-Mar... By the most, early April everyone would be getting them in the mail, as most colleges try to recruit early to beat their competition. Also, NWH takes place a week after their trip from Europe.

The scene with the x-rays that show the dates would be wrong. Because if those are indeed the actual dates of the x-rays that shows Stephen's injuries were taken, that would imply that they are further in future than we think. Becauuuuse, Strange already had his powers before Infinity War... Hell, even before the events of Thor Ragnarok. Infinity War takes places in 2018. 5 years pass into 2023, when Scott returns from the Quantum Realm. Strange was gone during those 5 years... So, there's no way that date is accurate if he was still dusted in 2021. I believe the events from NWH is what actually adds to the confusion. Everything that happens in THAT movie happen within the beginning of spring. The end of NWH that shows Peter swinging through the snow is definitely in December because he swings pass the tree 🌲 in Rockefeller Center which is still intact because it gets destroyed during the last episode of Hawkeye.
So, by your account based on what looks like Autumn setting, MOM definitely takes place before Hawkeye and Moon Knight.

    • @Geekritique
      @Geekritique  Před rokem

The date is most likely when they filmed the scene or edited the vfx. The x-ray was taken by Christine that day, so it has nothing to do with being ahead or behind, it’s just a poor onscreen date.

IN FFH in the early beginning of the movie, when that Whitney Houston tribute for Tony, Steve, Nat and Vision play, Betty starts to talk about the aftermath of the Blip, and in her monologue she explains that 8 months had passed since everyone blipped back. Since that was still in 2023, all you have to do is find out when that happened, then count 8 months forward (Assuming that the trip to Europe happens days after their last day of school in FFH), and you'll get a definitive time frame for both FFH, NWH(since the movie starts a week after their trip) and move forward using NWH as your time frame leading to MOM.
