This is an amazing video of a penguin losing its egg. The wind blew the egg out of its nest. It tries to reach it without getting off its nest and risking losing its other egg. Meanwhile, a couple of other penguin offer to help. But at the last minute, a gull gets it for breakfast.
What's even more amazing, is the very end. It's hard to see, but the gull flies the egg high up in the sky and drops the egg to crack it open. The egg doesn't break, so the gull flies it up into the sky and drops it two more times before it can get the egg to break.
While this is a rather long video, a lot of amazing things happen in it!

People don't understand it only takes a minute for an uncovered egg to die. She couldn't risk the egg she was on for that one yet she still tried to get it back

I'm glad the gull took it. That egg died after sitting in the wind for too long, the penguin was risking its other egg for nothing.
@Steffan Meyers depends on the species, penguin can lay 2-3 eggs, except emperor penguin.

Yes, the gull dropped the egg two more times. It finally broke on the third try and then the gull ate the contents of the egg. They are very smart!

Yeah father penguins can't leave the eggs alone for more than a few seconds, the chicks inside freeze almost immediately. That's why the mothers are the one who look for food when the father keeps the eggs warm until they hatch

Not just that, but the cameraman would have likely scared the penguin parent off of it's other egg, which would be a worse outcome. The egg outside the nest was already doomed, so risking the other egg would be idiotic.

No he was protecting the other egg. If he got off the egg he was already on, it can wuickly die withiut being covered. At the same time he was trying to get the already dead one back in hopes it was still alive. Then the gull took it away.

For fucks sake why didn't you just roll the egg back over to her? She was clearly anxious about getting it back and I'm sure watching a gull fly off with it after all her anxiety did no end of needless distress to her while you sat on your arse doing sweet FA. This doesn't make much sense though I thought penguins only had one hatchling at a time if she already had one egg how could she have another? And what's more how the fuck did it roll away from her arse in the first place? I think this is more likely an abandoned egg attempting to be adopted.
Most penguins have 2 eggs its a bit different for each species but basically one egg acts as a back up incase something is wrong with the first egg at some point they will dump one of the eggs anyhow so no matter what only one of the two eggs was gonna make it
Moving into the penguins nesting area might scare the shit out of them and result in more egg losses and its usually best not to interfere anyhow animals mostly learn thought trial and error you just have to let that process play out
