After marching up to 125 miles across the sea ice, female Emperor penguins must locate their chick among the thousands of others in the colony. Unfortunately, the chicks and their dads all look exactly the same. To find her male partner and their chick she issues a unique call which her male partner can identify.

Two main thing that caught me:
1. Even to penguins...THEY. ALL. LOOK. THE. SAME.
2. The fathers get in line for the female to find the chick. And for the mother to look at every penguin and find her baby.

What if she chooses the wrong one? Since they mate for life, is the man honorable and like "Nah you're not my partner lady!" and they each go about their business and she just keeps searching until she finds them? Serious question lol. They also showed one male respond to her call. It's truly amazing if out of thousands, they each recognize eachother's call distinctly despite the other penguins around them. That's beautiful 😢
*p.s the father looked so happy to see/hear her!! His lil flappy wings when he responded to her made me smile 😂🤗
Seeman BJP fg nah mate that doesn't apply to emperor penguins, the have one partner for that mating season and that's it.
To answer OP question, they never choose the wrong partner because although they all look aesthetically the same, the pitch of their voice and their way of singing the mating call is unique, like a human fingerprint. Their ears are evolutionarily made to tell them apart, that's how they find each other :)
That won't happen, they have a unique sound enough for their mate to realised it was them calling

Penguins are so anthropomorphic and it's adorable. The dads forming an identity parade looked like a bunch of little people walking in a single file line.
60 miles, what?!?! This is astonishing! And the tiny little steps that penguins must take, walking on land isn't their strongest attribute, compared to how graceful and fast they are in the water. But still they somehow manage to walk that amazing distance and over uneven ice of all things. Amazing.
