Building A Lifeline to Solve Brazil’s Roadkill Epidemic | WILD HOPE
Fernanda Abra leads a crucial conservation initiative along the roadways of Brazil, where vehicles annually kill about 475 million vertebrates - more than double the country's human population. She spearheads over 300 projects targeting roads with high wildlife casualties.
Her approach includes installing underpasses and canopy bridges to ensure safe travel for terrestrial wildlife, like big cats, and arboreal creatures like monkeys, effectively reducing roadkill mortality. These structures also reconnect fragmented habitats, promoting genetic diversity and overall population health across various species.
Abra's efforts not only decrease wildlife deaths but also illustrate the successful merging of conservation with infrastructure development, setting a precedent for worldwide practices that harmonize human progress with environmental stewardship.

Magnificent gorgeous animals
It’s amazing how a positive story is so much more enjoyable than the normal doom and gloom.
She has found a use for humans.
They also will know how to navigate humans and crossing a road without getting hit by a car. Instead of freaking out cuz they just saw an alien, they’ll just see their mama always walked past humans so they will copy that
Hooray!
How wonderful that 40 people are working on this project. How does one donate?

Book rec for people interested in octopuses (yes that is the correct plural): The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery
This dude can speak bear and talked to the mother bear about it. We’re so lucky to have people like this who speak bear.
Grizzly bear: would you rather be alone in a town with a human or a mae grizzly bear?
That guy sounds stoned 😂
I like to think they just picked a random person off the street to explain the video.
So sad. I’m all alone. It’s so hard. No one to help me. I feel for them.
A lot of animals do this manly prey animals thell stay close to humans so predictors are less likely to be around those areas
475 million in Brazil? maybe you meant to write worldwide, and 9 million in Brazil? see your first sentence.
yes, build natural habitat bridge crossings for the wild animals; it worked in New Jersey, USA
Grizzlies: would you rather be in a forest with a car or a male grizzly?
She know humans are safe and will do anything to protect her babies
Human men could learn from gorillas
Amazing work 👏🏻
That was a crazy perspective shot towards the end where the bears looked tiny and the people huge
But so problematic
She is smarter than the average bear.
Awww bless you all! I always feel horrible whenever I see roadkill and it just does my heart so good to see all those lovely animals crossing roads safely <3
Had this worked out years ago in my head, glad it had came into fruition.
Didn't any of you play pokemon as kids? Clearly pokrmon can evolve
Patron : i want another hamburger, - no buddy we gotta keep you under 9 pounds weight.
I like to imagine each time they're opening their mouths it's just like Bro? Bro? I love you bro! Bro! I love you too bro! Bro! 😂🐋🐳
To God the Creator be the Glory!
Why they don't remove the barnacles attached on the green? They should do it tho
"As a sign of acceptance he shows his true feelings." He proceeds to feel the fake octopus thinking, "What the hell is this thing anyways?"
The cats of the sky.
Momma bear is a term for the reason
Why can't these gawker's leave these bears alone. Filming is one thing, but with these visitors always around, it's not a wonder their not afraid of humans- but that's not how nature in bears is supposed to be. Give them some peace!! Once again, greed rears its never-ending ugly face!😢
Smart mama
Love 399
Why don’t people leave them the fuck alone?
Aliens
Same is true for humans, number one threat is stepdads.
And so the domestication of bears begin before you know it we'll have a bear looking like a pug
I saw a baby bear just this weekend driving home . Ran up the ditch to a tree and was on its hind legs hugging it like he was going to climb it lol. Didn’t see the mom but that makes sense iv seen 2 small bears in the last couple years up here in northern mn right off the road
Awww! I love LOVE octopuses! (Don't eat them, a-holes)
I hope they stop the fires, no just for them , but for all of us…!!!
🕊️🦅: Wait I'll sit on your back and show you how the snail gets inside that shell ..
Bears were there first cowboy!!
I feel like this is step one towards a hundred years from now having fully domesticated bear pets lol
Important omission. Ranchers get paid more than fair market value for every cattle lost to bears and wolves. They're fine.
His Majesty makes what is majestic.
Beautiful piece of document. Thank you to all who’s contributed.
This is so hopeful and necessary. Anything we can do to protect and support native wildlife and biodiversity is a must do!! Wildlife across the map is up against so many threats resulting from human behavior, and roads are high on the list. Safe passages is a best solution. Great work Fernanda and team!
