How local communities helped restore the Atlantic Rainforest | WILD HOPE

- In Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, Mauricio Ruiz has turned his love for nature into action by working with the community to reforest a critical stretch of the nation’s most endangered forest, and by using drones to help him reach his goal of planting 15 million new trees.
Mauricio created the Institute for Environmental Preservation, ITPA, when he was just 14 to fight back against rampant deforestation. With government and private funding, and a law in place that protects the remaining forest, Mauricio shows us what 25 years of civilian-led action looks like. Locals are paid to extinguish illegally set fires and to operate a nursery that grows 100,000 trees a year. They raise 58 native species critical for biodiversity and convince private landowners to reforest their land.
Mauricio knows scaling-up will be the only way to combat continued forest loss and has set an ambitious new goal to plant 15 million trees. Fortunately, he’s partnered with a technology company, MORFO, that has the experience and tools needed to accomplish it: agricultural drones. If the approach works, Mauricio can cut costs and time by planting 50 times faster than by hand, and still rely on citizen work to prepare and monitor newly forested ground.

Parabéns Mauri. Que trabalho maravilhoso. A Madre Tierra te agradece.
This is so wonderful!!!
Happy Earth Day ❤❤❤
Yay! New episode :)
Great as always! And so important, to show what is possible, and actually being done, instead of the constant flow of doom that we are mostly fed with... Without this balance it is easy to get paralyzed.
Muito bom! Parabéns Maurício 👏👍🥰
I love, love , love this. Thank you!!! The encapsulation of the seeds that are distributed by the drones is amazing
Earth Day 2024 is here. Many thanks to all those addressing "Climate Change" with their actions. One simple action can have a big impact.
Parabéns!!! Vc merece.
I really look forward to these videos!
love to see it
Thank you #SaveSoil
We have done this to our Mother Earth:
We MUST Make It Right!!!!!
Cool, seed truffles!
GREAT
We are having amazing success in restoring the same Atlantic Rainforest, relying only on the seeds produced by the surviving plots of original forest
It all started in the 1990's when our local government started enforcing the Riparian Forest Law
Since then, it's just amazing the number of plant species that have come back
As for the fauna, we are in a very advanced stage of restoration, as evidenced by the presence of jaguars that prey on our cropfields
We are achieving a situation where we have a mosaic of high-yield cropfields intertwined with rainforest corridors, proving that food production can coexist with conservation
But all of these achievements are highly threatened by the proposed construction of small hydroelectric dams, which are an environmental disaster in themselves
Wow, this is very interesting and inspirational. We are doing similar work in Hawaii. I’m sorry to hear about the threat posed by the proposed dam, wish you luck in stopping that.
I thank you for your support
About the dams, are not just one, but hundreds
My best wishes to you in Hawaii
I love Mauricio's project.
Saneamento básico e educação ja estaria bom d+ né ❤❤❤❤❤❤🤘
❤❤❤❤❤
Me lembro quando você conseguiu a licença 🎉❤❤
i would love to see this happen in Australia, where deforestation is a Govt sanctionedprocess. On the one hand they claim Climate change is ruining our Planet and on the other allow forests to be destroye ,so confusing .
😅 marvelous 😍🥰 our Fathers will being DONE people pleasingly developers and you too can get it ✅
❤❤❤😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉

This narrator is no good. Her emphasis is annoying. Where's David?
There has to be a better way to supply humans with heat & energy instead of burning down a forest to make coal?
I hate to say this, but the part of the video that talked about turning the forests to coal was in reference to burning down the trees to make way for grasslands to feed livestock. Not for harvesting the trees for firewood. They just burned them down. Which makes the entire process even more disgusting. 😢
Yep
Planting Eucalyptus
Cultivated forests are in such a way highly productive that they just displace the cutting of native ones by turning it unprofitable
Cattle! Cattle! Cattle! There are more cows in Brazil than people.

No other way.
So, the better option is CONTROL OUR POPULATION. 2 CHILDREN POLICY. But now need to reduce it first. 8 billions already too much for global ecobalance
