Either or they were both cocky and materialist. I definitely could see strange supreme seeing Christine as a trophy wife. A women that is almost at the level of his intelligence and even challenges his intelligence. That was why he was obsessed with her. I can also see supreme pissed at losing his hands and the very thing that made him a popular renowed dr. Dr Strange is borderline sociopathic. What keeps him grounded is the weight of his responsibility as a hero. Dr strange is a intelligent man, that he understands that he can not let someone dumber than him destroy the universe.universe for the sake of science and understanding which is ultimately his goal in all universes. honestly Uatu is probably being honest, its probably beyond his power, even if he could interfere, to fix this. I don't think the true Living Tribunal could undo this mess.
No I think we misunderstand what he means.
He CAN fix this and WOULD save the universe. But him abiding by his rules to not interfere is what stops him and hence why he says “he would”.
His wording is very vague and the factors at play means it could be read as many different things. But that’s what I believe is the right take
The Living Tribunal could 100% fix this if it wanted to. The only being that is more powerful than the Living Tribunal (ignoring the nonsense that is the Beyonders) is The One Above All, but the Living Tribunal is more or less just a walking Judge.
A Watcher could very well fix this easily. They're practically omnipotent reality warpers. However, they can't interfere (unless the situation is dire of the multiverse in itself). "Can't" being their own will to not interfere because their actions in one universe would affect another, and they know that.

Watched episode 8. This comment did not age well
It's funny that the Thor, Tachala or zombie episode WEREN'T the ones that got me hooked on What If.... It was THIS one. I feel we can all connect with losing a love one. Some more than most, but it's scary and beautiful how far the sorcerer supreme handles it
I feel like the previous episode, with Hank Pym becoming the Yellowjacket and murdering 5 of the 6 original Avengers, was almost a prelude to Episode 4. Pym became broken and demented by grief, just like Strange Supreme. Strange's loss became an insane obsession with reviving Christine, consequences be damned, while Hank's loss turned to vengeance against Nick Fury. In the end, both suffered consequences: Strange brought a full universal collapse on himself, while Hank murdering Thor led to Loki retaliating and taking him prisoner to Asgard.
It was only beautiful during his attempts to try to change the course of Christine’s demise but after that it went to shambles. It went from beautiful to scary and wrong really fast.
@@Interestingenough4 those two episodes are my favourite after the finale. Makes me learn that grief can lead people to darker path
I love this scene because it really shows how the Watcher sometimes hates the fact that he can't do anything but observe.
It really showed that he truly wants to interfere and help if he could, but he has rules that he cannot break.
And starting to this episode until the end of season 1, he had multiple occasions to interfere, but he just can't
This is kind of a callback to Loki. The Watcher can’t interfere, because of time and shit.
In the Loki show, Loki demonstrated that if they travelled back before an apokalypse, nothing would happen.
The Watcher shows up because he knows it is the end

I really like how humble Uatu is, he is one of the most powerful beings in all of existence, weilding power unfathomable to mortal minds, capable of seeing and being anywhere and everywhere at any point in time. He is by nearly all accounts the perfect description of a god, yet still vehemently denies it
He’s actually not that powerful, he is just part of a race that watches over a certain universe, and that’s about it, when you name some of the most powerful marvel characters his name is definitely not one of the first you think of.
@@mohavoc7154 he is one of the most powerful. Ultron destroyed thanos in less than a second but couldn't destroy the watcher very easily. Seeing ultron destroy universes in less than a second and yet the watcher still stood against him makes him probably the strongest thing without the stones.

I don’t think it’s pure power that is needed. Sure powerful beings can sense the watcher but they also need silence. Strange supreme only managed to slightly sense the watcher when he absorbed a ton of mystical beings and was all alone in that library. The road to hell is paved with good intentions: The character.
You know, probably the person who suffers the most from these What If...? stories is The Watcher himself. He's a being of almost infinite power, but due to the rules of the multiverse he cannot directly interfere in most cases. And considering most What Ifs don't have happy endings (both shows and comics), that's a lot of tragedies he's had to witness. It's like a doctor at a hospice, they have all the medical knowledge they could want, but in the end there's only so much they can do.
Lucky for him that being able to see events of the multiverses so directly means that he could go watch those where things turn out fine & happy as a means of taking a breather, & he could technically turn a blind eye to multiverses where things went to shit all the same if he wants to, given that it's not actually his job to watch & he answers to no one. doctors in hospices don't get that kinda privilege & luxury with their jobs.
69th like
He truly does stage was rule he can't intervene
Supreme strange is so powerful that he can feel and see the presence of the watcher
While he was repeatedly warned, he still was mature enough to ask for a punishment only reserved to him, not to Christine and other innocent people.
I like how he came out of watching for that moment because he knew the universe for strange was ending
*Later
The Watcher: "I need your help to save the Multiverse"
Strange Supreme: "The same way you saved my universe?"
The Watcher: "No, but...."
Strange Supreme: "Heh, how the tables have turned now"
Episode 4: I do not, cannot, will not interfere
Episode 8: screw it I need your help
This is the scene which solidified Dr. Strange as my favourite character. His regret, remorse after tampering with time and causing the universe to collapse. The ending of this episode was so sad, him being stuck in the prison of his own making, saying sorry over and over again. I'm glad he's now vibing with the Watcher, and watching over two dudes with colorful rocks.
It's not the vow that prevented him from fixing this. He literally cannot. Sure he's a god (small g) but universal collapse isn't a thing he could fix
As Mr Incredible once said “you can’t unpunch someone”. (Or maybe that was “crush”).

This "i don't intervene" really didn't age that well
I kinda like how everyone ignores how cruel it is that fate litraly screwed over people and made it that she would die no matter what. This is bullshit and not free will.
I don't think it's about fate, more continuity.
If every single action or event can be reversed, then we no longer have a consistent history. We would have history being relative and subject to the individual. That's just paradoxes and chaos.
Having some instances set in stone acts as a kind of study base so that reality doesn't crumble from its own inconsistency. It's possible that this instance of an absolute point was more random than destiny. And so another Dr Strange could have changed time without anything happening.
Fate is like a river and we humans are just like fishes in that river.
Whichever direction the river flows or changes, we humans would just follow that direction and helplessly bound to that direction regardless.
We are in no power to change our fates because we are both mortals and human beings.
Obstructing fate would be like putting a big stone in that river and that would led to dire consequences.
Well, maybe you would not get it, but that is my perception and understanding of fate.
It is cruel. They said that “Nexus Event” and “Absolute Moment In Time” are the exact same thing- which means, that this universe’s severance from the ‘sacred timeline’ is Christine dead. If you cut out why your universe is different, the very reason it exists- it’s like a tree branch cutting itself off the trunk.
If this were Doctor Who we would be calling it a Fixed Point in Time.
She had free will until she died, then everything after that moment relied on that crux in history. Once it happened it could not be undone.
I've always wondered.....why not absorb the damn watcher- to someone like strange, the sky need not be the limit
Nice question
This episode actually feels like a What if scenario more then the other ones, (other then maybe Infinite Ultron).
The other episodes feel more like fanfictions then actual what if’s. The Supreme Strange episode actually plays into the what if scenarios Strange finds himself in.
It’s not just, “Oh what if Thor was party dude” or “what if these characters switched places”
This is actually a alternative scenario from the actual film. In the film, Strange drives alone, but in this episode he takes his girlfriend with him, causing the what if scenario.
"I can't interfere but I won't shut the fuck up"

The fact that the Watcher did said he wished he could interfere tells the audience how much they have suffered from just observing the reality destroys before their eyes countless time.

Look okay, Benedict Cumberbatch put SO much emotion in this bit....It made my heart weep a little.
The watcher in this episode : i can't intervere 😎
The watcher in the last episode : bro help 🥺
They completely ruined his character in the 2nd season, writers really had a bo*er for captain cater. The entire season was centered around her
Exactly!
Exactly
When you realize the multiverse opens up unlimited possibilities for MCU
Its moments like this that solidify that yeah, Benedict was the right choice to play Stephen.
This is Multiverse of madness More than the real Multiverse of madness.
The darkest and saddest episode
Strange supreme be like after episode 8:
*You could not live with your own failure. Where did it bring you? Back to me*
Watcher be like "naw fam"
You cannot life with your own failure see where it brought you back to me
Strange in episode 8 : you could not live with your own failure, where did that bring you? Back to me
You want to hear it from me?
Oh yeah. Oh yeah...
And then
"I need your help" 😂
Well that turned out nicely for watcher (episode 8)
Just a tidbit, the Watchers represent what their named for: us. Viewers of a TV show, readers of a fiction novel. Nobody picks up a pen and rewrites the plot when reading a novel.
Then there's the fanfic writers making the worst timelines imaginable lmfao
I really like how the Watcher fades in and out.
Now watcher needs help from Dr strange 😁😏😏😏
Remember what ashoka told ezra?: "You can't save your master, and i can't save mine."
For some in-comics history/lore to provide context &/or explanation about The Watchers, and Uatu (Earth-616's Watcher)... *:)*
1.) *_Why Do The Watchers Not Interfere?_** ~* By Marvel (in-)Comics lore, for one of The Watchers' earliest versions of Origin Stories, but not the first, or the last, across the comics-decades/-generations, Reboots, and RetCons...
- a.) *Ancient Sins ~* The Watchers are one of the oldest (but not the "first") races in the Marvel (Space) Universe, and even the Marvel Multiverse. At a particularly strong upswing point of The Watchers early rising power(s), The Watchers foresaw a youthful up-&-coming race with a great potential. The Watchers tried to uplift and teach the young race...with *_disastrous_* results. The young race not only wound up destroying themselves from misuse of The Watchers' gifts, but their (self-)extinction resulted in multiple Evil races rising up in the young race's empty spot in the galaxy. Those Evil races in-turn, wound up exterminating *MORE* young(er) races across the galaxy, before the Evil races eventually destroyed each other (or themselves). Horrified and guilt-ridden by their terrible mistakes, and the catastrophic _'ripple-effect'_ consequences that followed because of those errors, The Watchers took-up their Vow of Non-Interference over other civilizations' development and choices.
- b.) *Eternal Penance ~* This is the important understanding of The Watchers' Vow of Non-Interference, it is *NOT* because The Watchers are uncaring elitists &/or Multiversal space-snobs; but rather, the Vow of Non-Interference is The Watchers' endless act of _Penance,_ for The Watchers' ancient _Sin of Pride/Hubris._ The Watchers' penance-Vow is to observe only; never to act, for Good or for Bad, and to never take Center Stage in the galaxy ever again.
2.) *_Exception to the Rule/Vow_** ~* The Watchers' vow is eternal and immutable; however, it is *NOT* absolute... Should a Threat of such cataclysmic proportions arise/occur (usually on the Multiversal-scale), a Threat that could spill over into the rest of the Marvel Multiverse, The Watchers will do what they can to provide aid/information/guidance to avert/combat the Threat. However, even then, such aid is done with the utmost care, harsh strictures (among The Watchers themselves), and indirect means (e.g.: The Watchers will not hand you a Cosmic Gun to combat the Multiversal Big Bad, but The Watchers may indirectly guide where/how to acquire a Cosmic Gun, and obliquely hint where to aim the Cosmic Gun.).
3.) *_Uatu the Watcher_** ~* Uatu is the Watcher assigned to Earth-616 (Marvel Earth) and its stellar region in the Marvel (Space) Universe. Uatu is a tormented soul, from the burden(s) of his watch. Earth-616 sits upon a major dimensional nexus, which indirectly causes Earth (across dimensions) to be a hotbed of chaos and conflict. While Uatu tries to adhere to the Vow of Non-Interference, Uatu sees the potential worth of Humanity, and their valiant (though not always victorious) struggles, both on Earth-616 and through the interdimensional lens of the Marvel Multiverse. Uatu cannot help but feel a connection towards Humanity, counter-balanced by the terrible mistakes of The Watchers' ancient past. As a result, Uatu has bent, and even broken, the Vow of Non-Interference in order to safeguard Earth-616 and Humanity from various external Threats that would summarily snuff out Humanity by no fault of Humanity's own. Uatu's counter-balance being that Uatu also resolutely abstains from any interference when Humanity harms/destroys itself, &/or opens themselves to external Threats by their own decisions &/or actions.
- a.) For an example of intervention, Uatu directly interceded when Galactus' wandering path threatened Earth-616 with being consumed by the Great Devourer; Uatu attempted to divert the Silver Surfer (Galactus' herald & forward scout), as well as to cloak Earth-616 from Galactus' sight and starship's sensors. And when Uatu's direct intervention failed to avert Galactus' arrival, Uatu guided Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) to The Ultimate Nullifier weapon aboard Galactus' World-Ship (the Taa II) so Richards could repel Galactus.
- b.) Conversely, when Tony Stark (Iron Man I) instigated the *[Marvel Civil War I (2006-2007) CrossOver comics event],* severely damaging (if not nearly crippling) Earth-616's Super-Heroic community and Earth-616's defenses/defenders, it left Earth-616 wide open to easy infiltration and invasion by the shapeshifting Skrulls, leading to the *[Secret Invasion (2008-2009) CrossOver comics event].* Uatu stood by and watched as the Skrull invasion ships descended upon Earth-616, though Uatu expressed his hope (at the time) that Humanity would prevail.
Underrated comment.
Excessive.
@@Xominus ~ Generally better to be under-rated than over-rated. Thank you kindly. *:)*
@@wj3186 ~ Excessively good? Why thank you. *;>*
Also from what I've heard about Uatu, he was assigned to Earth-616 when the universe there was not yet formed. But the moment he blinked for a second, oops, the dinosaurs existed! So, Uatu made a tiny mistake and so continued to watch Earth-616 with some caution.
Me, an intellectual: Episode 3 is as dark as they’re gonna get.
Episode 4: Hold my crème brûlée.
“And tonight you’re going to break your one rule….”
-Some DC villain
Episode 4: I can’t interfere
Episode 8: anyways, I’ll just knock ultron into multiple different universes
next episode is about to get real awkward
People who skipped What If...? Have no idea they're missing out on the best Dr Strange story.
What if is the only worth so far think marvel the best series ever directed
What if is the only worth so far think marvel the best series ever directed
*Watcher 5 episodes later*
"I need your help dawg"

Best goddamn What If episode. The live action movies need to take notes in term of tone.
