- Here’s my full honest review of the Suntour Suspension Fork on the 2021 Canyon Stoic. I got a lot of questions about this so I figured I'd make a full video! Bottom line: It's a good fork for the money! However, it's not perfect. Watch this video for those details. Subscribe for future videos where I'LL PUT THIS BIKE TO THE TEST! Links below for the upgrades I bought for this bike.
My name's Tyler and I love mountain biking! I live in the Midwest United States (not typically known for great MTB riding) and I want people to know that us riders here in the Midwest are awesome too! We don't need huge downhill trails to have a good time! I just got a brand new 2021 Canyon Stoic 2 - sometimes called the Canyon Stoic 3 - and this bike has got to be the best hardtail of the year! At least for the price. So I'd at least say the best budget-friendly hardtail of the year! I'm stoked to be able to share it with you guys. I'm also stoked to ride it this summer and let you guys know how it goes!
If you enjoyed this video free to like, comment, and subscribe. I really like making these videos and would be so pumped if the channel grew!
If you live in Southwest Michigan/Northwest Indiana (or really anywhere in the Midwest) let me know. I’d love to hear about any awesome mountain bike spots that you know of.
Cheers!
Tyler

Update: I dropped the PSI down to 85 and I'm really liking it. It allows a little more cushion on the rough stuff but still stiff enough for short climbs and big drops.
I would add some oil in the fork, to decrease the air volume, with that the fork do not has a linerar graph of progression
This guy is great, so genuine. I love the content
Thanks so much, I REALLY appreciate it!! 👍🤙😁

Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any other questions about the Canyon Stoic 2! You can find my full review of this bike here: czcams.com/video/cASliZDPW6Q/video.html
Love how you say your verdict outright.
I love this fork...been running it on my Voodoo XC 29er for almost 3 years now. I believe this fork gets confused with the XCR coil fork that SunTour makes for the budget "big box" bikes. In fact, I believe the XCR 34 Air Boost, when introduced was/is higher tier than the ST Raidon and Epicon/Epixon...It was certainly more expensive. That's neither here nor there, just rambling...I have mine set up for 130 mm, I believe you can adjust them for travel between 120-140mm internally.
Glad you like it too man! Yea I think it’s been great! I’ve been running mine at 140mm of travel because this is my only bike and I like to hit some bigger drops and stuff, so having more travel is nice! Thanks for watching!
Very professional and clear review 👍
Thank you!!
Wow, really nice bike man. Love it👍
Nice video, props to you for super positive attitude.
Thanks!! 👍👊
Thanks, for this great Fork Review
For sure! Have a great day!
Congrats on 150 subscribers!!
Thanks man!
Those stair riding is SICK❗
Thanks bro!! 🤙
Nice! Love the stair ride!
Haha thanks! Me too! 🤙
Love your videos! Thanks!
Thanks! I have fun making them too! =]
Verry good review, nice vid.
Thanks man!
I went for a riverside walk in Beloit yesterday and there were a ton of stairs, ramps, and bridges. We were just about the only people walking around too. I kept thinking "Tyler would love this place!.
Haha that’s awesome! Maybe I’ll have to go there with you sometime=]
great video and review of the fork.
Thanks so much!! 👍
You should do a service video on this fork. I have a Stoic 2 as well and have found the fork to be pretty decent, but I'm curious if it can be improved with any internal mods.
Hi, bro! Thanks for the content! Does this fork has steel or alu legs?
Thanks for review ;)
For sure, thanks for watching!!
Can’t wait to come back in stock!
Yea for sure, hope they’re back in stock soon for you!!
@@MidwestMountainBike as it seams there is not too much hope unfortunately soooo I will wait maybe at max until July if not in stock then I will find a different bike . I have been hyped with the stoic 2 since the day of release but I guess even if I can afford it now I can’t b it it :(
Yea that makes sense, it’s a great bike, but at some point it would be worth getting something else that is in stock!
Exactly the video im looking for! I have canyon stoic 3 and just ordered stoic2 today. And asking around the suntour fork around instagram
Awesome, glad it was helpful! 🤙
Was abit spectical about this coz I have canyon stoic 3 already and swapping it was my option but seems so ok alr. Hahaha thanks!
Hey man love the video! Really thinking about getting into trail biking and I really like this bike to start off with. I'm about 5'9" 180 pounds. What size frame do you recommend? Thanks!
Hey man, thanks! That’s awesome! I started getting into mountain biking again about 1.5 years ago and it’s been so much fun! This would be a really good bike to start on. I think you would want a size Medium. I’m 6’1” and ride a size Large.
@@MidwestMountainBike I was thinking medium as well. Thank you! I see that they are out of stock. Just put my name on the list. Hopefully I hear back soon so I can put my purchase in!
Oh yep I had to do that too. It was hard to wait but was worth it! You’ll want to order it as soon as you get that in stock email. When I got the email I ordered it right away and it was already sold out by the next day!
I have the same weight and run it at 55psi. After watching this I will try 60-70. Shame they don't provide some base settings.
Yea I agree! I really think the fork works well once you get it dialed in, but it's just hard to figure out what works well for you. Good luck!
did the fork stanchions keep their shiny black color? how do you maintain it? any product or smth?
Hi legend! Me again. My stoic was delayed to august so now i dont know if i should get a different bike. I dont know if they are going to delay it again.
Bro that sucks! I’m sorry about another delay!!! 👎👎👎👎 I know it’s a great bike and worth the wait, but I’m sure there are some really good other options out there if you can get one sooner. I was also looking at the Marin San Quentin, Rocky Mountain Growler, and Commencal Meta too. Those were all nice and kind of in the same price range.
I have a question whats the offset fork on this bike?
I have this fork and it is better than entry level for relatively small jumps etc. You can easily buy 3rd party ZTTO seals and felt rings for it for basic maintenance
You didn't mention how fiddly the qloc axle can be.
How does this compare to the rockshox recon?
Hello. Does the bike come with a shock pump?
great review
compare xcr34 with rockshox recon which one the good for xc trail?
Thanks for watching! Im sure the Recon would be better, but the Suntour is great for the price. I don’t think you’d need to spend the extra money if you’re just riding XC trails.
@@MidwestMountainBike recon is 32mm and santour 34mm ? it won't get better?
Hi mate. i am considering buying the stoic 2. i would like to mount a marzocchi bomber z2. do you think I would be able to sell the Santour default fork on the second-hand market?
Hey mate, I don’t see why not. I’m not sure how much $$ you’d get for it but I’m sure someone would want it. It’s honestly a pretty good fork, but my bro in law has the bomber and its really nice too.
I got one used for 175 bucks. Hope I did a good purchase
Nice, I hope so too! I honestly don't know what the fork costs by itself but I know it's been a good fork on my bike!
how many mm is it offset on the fork
Where have you been riding? I'm a kenosha rider myself
I typically ride in Southwest Michigan and Northwest Indiana - places like Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI and Creekside Trails in Valpraiso, IN. But I grew up near Kenosha and still visit family there sometimes. I really like riding Silver Lake County park when I'm out there.
Will this fork on my 21' trek roscoe 6 27.5+? I ask because my friend removed this fork from his canyon and has it laying around.
Great question! The forks are plenty wide for plus size tires. 27.5 wheels will definitely fit on the fork, it will change the geometry a tiny bit but shouldn’t be an issue… Good luck man!!
Hi. About to receive my Stoic 2. Curious what size dropper post you went with and the size of your frame
Nice! Excited for you to get your Stoic. I went with a Tranz X Kitsuma dropper post - 30.9mm with 170mm of travel for my size L frame. Its been great 👍
Awesome! Thanks. Bike literally just arrived in the mail. Putting it together tonight. Thanks for the content and the reply
Dude that’s awesome!! Happy new bike day!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Thanks! Curious, the rear brake feels quite soft. Doesn’t really lock up. The front is great. I bled the back and got some air out but it didn’t change it. Curious how your rear brake is
Stoic 2 or 3 or 4? I think for the next 3-4 years I am gonna buy stoic 2 for 899€ but i have to buy a seat post too. Which would you prefer iridium?
I think the 2 and 3 are both really good options for the money! I honestly don’t think the 4 is as worth it, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve got the Tranz X Kitsuma 170mm dropper post. It was one of the best prices I could find for a 170mm dropper and I’ve been really happy with it!
@@MidwestMountainBike am living in Switzerland… and it is for me not able to buy trans x…. What would be your second choice? 😁
Oh that’s cool, I’ve always wanted to visit Switzerland. My brother-in-law has the PNW Rainier dropper post and he really likes it. It’s really high quality. I don’t know how much that one cost though
I am still wait vor the Canyon stoic 2
Oh man I hope you get it soon!! It's worth the wait!
How would this look like with white tyres and öhlins
Oh man that would be AWESOME!!
This or the bobcat trail 5 , i dont know which one!
Honestly I don’t think you could go wrong either way! They’re both solid bikes with pretty decent components. I think the biggest difference is the Stoic is slightly more aggressive (more for going downhill) based on the longer travel fork, geometry, and wider tires. So if you want to focus on going downhill the Stoic probably has the advantage. But if you’re more focused on trail riding or XC the Bobcat might be better. That one has an 11sp drivetrain and the Stoic only has 10sp (at least that was the spec when I bought it). Good luck man! Hope you enjoy whichever one you get!
Bro when did u order Stoic2?
I ordered it on March 20 and got it on March 29. Get on the email list on Canyon.com so you get an email when it’s in stock!
lol, I ordered at the beginning of February and I am still waiting for delivery at the end of July...
Oh that sucks! Hope you get it soon!
I weigh 80 kilos, how many psi do I put in ? please
and for tires too please
I’d start around 80-85 psi in the fork and 22 psi in the tires if you’re going tubeless! Cheers mate, have fun!
Has anybody compared this fork with a Suntour Epixon?
Sorry, not me! Looks like the Epixon is more of an XC fork with up to 120mm of travel as opposed to 140mm. It looks like a nice fork too, just depends on your style of riding.
rebound looks okay but overall your setup is way to hard. you are maybe using 80 out of 140mm. even standing upright its barely sagging in. On the drops, heavier impact like the bottom end of the stairs this should go in nearly completly. To get a full picture you need to set it up in a way that allows to use full travel and then the fork still has to feel planted. some of the cheaper forks can start to make the frontend feel like its floating and you usually bandaid this with making the spring/air stiffer. just as a sidenote. According to sr suntour manual it should have 20-25% sag standing upright on the bike - to get a better starting point 75-80psi is about right for your weight but the sag is more spot on then the psi
Cool thanks! I’ll give that a try!
suggested for cross country ... pisses me off that it came on what i thought was trail bike
Bit of an update from my side after 1 year of use. At first I was ok with this fork, for the price it worked decent. After the year I changed my mind completely. This is a really heavy fork with thick stanchions, but it can't handle rough terrain, not reliable enough. It's a pointless fork. Could be lighter for xc, or more reliable for trail riding. It's neither. Very dissapointed with it.
This is probably the minimal fork spec anyone that is actually trying to mountain bike should have on their bikes. Any of the others that are just floppy springs in tubes are simply dangerous. If only companies would stop selling "mountain bike shaped" bikes to people and be honest with customers that they are not suitable for offroad.
Stop it! Get some help! Suntour is a Walmart fork.
I own 2 SunTour xcr 32 and a 34 ... I dust anyone with rockshox or fox because I am a better rider. I see plenty of guys with way fancier bikes and specs that have very little skills . Just look at videos from the 90s when mtb had very little specs and look what skillful riders could do . I just beat a bunch of SE bikes enthusiasts with a 2018 Giant ATX that cost me $450 . My fork doesn't say landing gear but it's actually meant for landing jumps , not just for show 😜
