    Another fun and beautiful fact is that when Messi retired for Argentina's national team, one of the reasons Messi said he came back, was because of all the child letters they sent to him, and one of those kids was Enzo Fernandez the winner of the golden boy award. There has been a thousand coincidences, "fun facts", theories, signals... I cannot even tell you how many weird things I've come across...
      Even brands of beers, TVs, sport brands and even... A mayonesse brand (?) started making commercials about this, coming up with the weirdest conclusions, that started with a picture of Maradona raising the World Cup with one hand on 86' and signaling, casually, the Qatar flag with the other hand, and followed with fans pointing out Canadá clasifying only to world cups Argentina won, to the Obelisco being 86' years old, to the 5 cups card used in Truco and Tarot made by Messi winning his first trophy on his fifth final and argentinian players De Paul, Acuña, Pezella and Lautaro forming in line during penalty knock outs, creating a very visible line of 78', 86' and 22' numbers...
      Us, argentinian as a whole, believed this World Cup had Argentina written all over it.
      Kid you not. We REALLY believe this bullshit.

    Should've mentioned the 123rd minute save. The save itself could possibly be the most impactful save of footballing history. And Messi being constantly compared with Maradona, but somehow always in the second place, suddenly rises up to become the GOAT without a single discussion point, not even in the attitude, and in the most fantastic possible way. Forgot a key point between the Copa America and the World Cup. La Finalissima was a match between Argentina (Champions of America) and Italy (Champions of Europe). International press dismissed Argentina as a clear candidate for the World Cup due to the fact that all the unbeaten games were against American teams, not Europeans, which in their eyes was not as impresive given that we had no chance to prove ourselves against a "top team". Argentina won 3-0, destroyed Italy and move from a really good latin american team, to an actual winner of the World Cup.

Geroud and Dembele were subbed off because Mbappe wasn't tracking back, causing an overload to occur on the right side of the pitch. This opened up the left side, giving Di Maria space and room, which forced Dembele to have to defend one on one. Terrible situation. The French substitutions fixed that because Thurman and Muani are much more defensively responsible and effective, though they are not as brilliant offensively. Mbappe moved centrally so that his lack of defense wasn't an issue. When France did this, despite Di Maria still playing, he ceased being effective. Also, this run of Scaloni can be turned into Documentary or Movie status, a young rookie Manager thats called up to a gigantic task and then goes into a Win streak that goes all the way into Copa America, then losing one match of World Cup and then, the run to the world cup final and that nerve wrecking match.

      The entire left flank became weak after he went off. France didn’t need to worry about Di Maria’s flank anymore and could just focus on defending the middle where Argentinas main offence was while also sending counter attacks. France was constantly sending long balls to Mbappe after Di Maria’s substitution. Taking Di Maria out gave France one less problem to deal with and it’s no coincidence the SAME thing happened vs the Netherlands. Di Maria was undoubtedly a essential key for that Argentina team

    • @amogussex9921
      @amogussex9921 Před rokem +41

      Di Maria wasn't 90 min match fit for the tournament, he was very out of gas by the second time so a sub was in order, but replacing him with Acuña was misguided. Argentina went in with the right idea, France is almost exclusively a counter attack team that heavily rely on speed and efficient balls, so their solution was to simply disallow them from playing at all and pressing nonstop. It worked beautifully, France was hardly there at all... for the first 70 minutes. As soon as Di Maria left and they switched to defensive mode they struggled to hold unto the ball. They were still doing okay until Otamendi had a brainfart and threw all tbe momentum away. Argentina only needed to hold on for 10 minutes if it hadn't been for that. By that point they were all tired, and one slip up from Messi was enough for coman and Mbappe to turn it into the equalizer. That's why it was such a bad choice, France are a very efficient team when it comes to their shots and plays and being defensive against them just isn't good enough, given enough time, at some point or another they will find a way to score. Thankfully for Argentina they pulled thru from sheer grit and superior ball control (and the fact that they're the best penalty shootout team, not just in this tournament but in history, literally no one has won more shootouts than Argentina) but they really need a good winger to replace Di Maria when he's gone.

    Fideo the unsung hero, without DiMaria playing those 60 minutes, we saw how different it got when he was replaced. Angel DiMaria you will go down with the great ones, I cried because of his own journey, I have watched Argentina win all 3 world cups, 78, 86 and now, and this one had as much drama and storyline as the 86 cup. Thank you Scaloneta!!!

      Here in arg it was known that Di Maria was injured and could't play the entire game, so scaloni sub him cause of that, and the team started to get tired also, you can't simply play the entire 90 minutes like those guys were playing the first 75

    this is a beautiful video, and adding Montiel's story makes it even more beautiful, if not necessary to win. As a kid, he was very poor and suffered very much. His childhood friends were killed in a shootout, just when his mother prohibited him to go play with them, and even more incredible is that in his poorness he took penalties for money, as in clandestine bets. He is an excelent penalty kicker, doesnt even look at the goal to score, and i feel like his life's story put him in there to take that last shot to win the world cup.

    I think it was just destiny Argentina to win the WC. I think this must have been the first time that so many players, past and present, so many opposition teams, so many neutrals wanted Argentina, Messi to win the WC. I PRAYED for Argentina to win the WC. So many around the world did. After the Saudi game, when I was down and questioned my involving prayers into a world game, people came and told me Argentina would still win the WC. Saudi coach, Herve Renard, said the same thing after Argentina lost to his team. It was like Heaven or sth communicated to some people that no matter what would happen, Argentina would win. And that's exactly what happened.

    2 thing to add... 1... the save of Emiliano Martinez at the very end of the extra-time was unbelievable and 2... Is so poetically Karmic that Montiel give the victory to Argentina because it was an unintentional handball of Montiel that give to France the 2 penalty and the 3-3 on the score.... He just take off all the remorse that could have it and that is wonderful [I think that why he react the way he does] ... (bisede Montiel never had been miss a penalty... since he start shooting penalties for River Plate he never miss 1... so)

    Emi Martinez was the best Goal Keeper, even though Bono (Morocco Goalie, had most clean sheets, saved once from penalties shoots), Coatian Goal Keeper Diminik Livakovic (Saved twice from penalty shoots) were also great, need special mention... but Emi Martinez saved Argentina twice from Penalty shoots, I wouldnt have been surprised if he was given the Golden Ball and Golden Glove. He deserves special recognition, played equally good like any forward of Argentina like Messi, Alvarez, Di Maria.

    Beautiful video I have come across! It's very motivational. It's true that Argentina is the only team which suffered a lot after 1986 World Cup win. Even though they performed well in many tournaments like 1990 and 2014 WC, they had to lose in the finals. And who can forget the Copa America final loss against Chile? They have stood up and come back as the World Champions now. Hard work and determinations can take one to the top. Needless to mention Argentina always had skillful players.

    Told everyone long before the tournament started that Argentina would win the whole thing, and after the introductions of players like Enzo, Macallister and even Alvarez, I started getting more confident. The croatia game in particular is the one that I was the most confident in. I even called a 3-0 win for Argentina. Argentina were up against “the best midfield “ of the tournament but people forget that Messi is basically a midfielder nowadays, it was never a contest from the beginning. Then the final was quite possibly THE BEST football game in history. It was the world cup final, Messi vs Mbappe, late drama, extra time, pens, literally EVERYTHING. The Mbappe volley is the goal that made my heart drop, that finish was top top class, genuinely scared me. But in the end there was always going to be one winner. Messi showed why he’s the greatest of all time. There was never a debate. Winning man of the match in every knockout game, scoring in ever ko game as well, and winning the best player of the tournament. People act like those penalties weren’t insanely high pressure penalties, yet he made them look so easy. We’ll never get to see anyone better than Messi.
