How good was Robin Van Persie actually? #GOAT
New video about one of the most talked about players we've seen over the 2010s in football. In this episode we take on Robin Van Persie who played for Arsenal, Man United, Fenerbahce and Feyennord for most of his career.

Imagine being a woman aline at night and seeing him coming down the pavement 😱. Terrifying
Oh dude i remember i know this is gonna be retarded to say but everytime i played with a homie in fifa without fail hed pick van persie before anything wlse. And this motherfucker would score volleys like it was his signature on a bank note. And sure enough van persie would do that in real life. I apways remember him scoring these crazy first shot volleys. I still remember that diving header he made on spain the man was absolutely clutch.
Pl
His left foot is so so good. Left foot volley, trademark goal

He is relaxed in that Utd team because those guys would chew off their legs to win a match. During his last 2 seasons at Arsenal, I've watched enough matches to tell he was really frustrated at his teammates and Wenger. They capitulated too often when they get pushed and hustled by their opponents. Arsenal post Vieira, Bergkamp and Henry was just like the current Utd. Technically gifted players. but lacking that bit of mental fortitude and determination.
Couldn't say it better. 💯
fax
Part of the problem. He was their captain after all.
Current Utd are worse, there's not a lot of "technically gifted" players in that lot.
@@pritapp788 Ha, get ready to what's coming for us then...
As an Arsenal fan, I am still hurt that he left. We stood by his side during all of his injuries. He gave us 1 complete season and then left the season after. Obviously we never knew what was going on behind the scenes, now I can look at the situation and understand. However, it still reminds me how sad I was when he left and join a club rival. No denying the fact that he was one of the best strikers the EPL has ever seen.
i wouldn't say United were direct rivals to Arsenal at that time. United went head to head with City in the title chase
it was the time when i have truly become fans, after 1 year of being a true fans... he left... what a shite time to be an arsenal fans...
but nowdays, its good
we lack the striker like RvP himself, but we're good
when he was on the bench nursing injuriesfor almost 7years , no one complained, he should never say anything about the current arsenal
RvP still has one of the best goals of all time. 2014 against Spain (Rematch) in the World Cup.
The diving header was a thing of beauty. Still have a vivid memory when I watched that game.
He was also part of Netherland’s best team to ever NOT win the World Cup.
With the exception to Cruyffs final upset against Germany
Amazing goal, but 1998 + 2002 Netherlands teams were iconic.
one of the most satisfying goal in the history of FIFA Worldcup.
but isnt netherlands best team ever to NOT win the wc the 1974 team with cruijff?
yeah that mad flop diving header is one of the best goals ive ever seen
1000% Agree. Its is a thing of beauty.
Man that decade was so brutal as an Arsenal fan
Every single year we marginally got worse with zero chance of improvement. It was the years we heard every summer there wad a War Chest when in reality we ended up spending nothing on a net basis.
That war chest rhetoric triggered me to no end lol
Awful times indeed. Thank god for David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano.
Exactly
Too much toxic PR management (top 4 finish, challenge on 4 front, cant buy players coz market is saturated, too many midfielders say no to ces, quality is there, spirit is there bounce back, mathematically possible) and expect a few top players to carry the entire team
It was so brutal that I'm still Wenger out. Bringing on his son Bendtner against Barca was the first time I said "Wenger out".
@@LION_and_the_LAMB what was the alternative?
Regardless of how much ever I love Arsenal, these were the dark ages. I felt betrayed, angry and bruised after RvP left us to United and we had to give him the guard of honor the next season and all, but truth be told, Arsenal had no hunger to win any trophy. Paying of the stadium loan and satisfying the bare minimum (4th in EPL) was all they aspired.
We still lack the hunger! I fear we will bottle it again this year...
@@houseofvenusMDu could, but arsenal right now does have the hunger. There is a goal and that is to win the prem. That wasn’t the case in the past. There is good recruitment, a good foundation, they want and can spend the money. It’s a team with loads of potential, pretty young as well. They just need a lil push, a stronger bench or 1 superstar player.
But yeah there will always be city who can buy whatever they want…
@@houseofvenusMDArsenal need a world class forward if they want to beat city

Solskjaer lost the plot and betrayed the club whenever he blatantly disrespected Van Persie. Then Ole became super disrespectful towards RVP. “He took MY NUMBER 20!” 😪 suck a crybaby, thin skin. If you were a hard manager, you wouldn’t even acknowledge it
The player that got me into football. Absolute legend
RVP united legend, most memorable moment was Arsenal being forced to give van persie a guard of honour at the emirates after united won the league and the cherry on the top van persie scored that game. One of the coldest moment in prem history
The club that didn’t have the motivation to give you what you most desire giving you the guard of honour must have been one heck of a feeling 😂

The worse thing about the Van Persie betrayal was not that he went to our greatest northern rival and foes in the Premier league era it was the loyal Wenger and Arsenal showed him when he was out injured most of his arsenal career finally he managed to get a full season under his belt and he offed and leaved us.
As a gooner, I remember how hurt I was when he left. Now that I’m older, I’m not mad at him anymore cos I understand how important it is for a player to win trophies in their career. I was just angry then cos Arsenal stood by him when he was injured for so many yrs, a lot of clubs wouldn’t.
he didnt want to leave, Arsenal didnt want to offer him what he wanted and man united did. it was a business decision.
@@Ghost-tx4ftReferring to his meeting - on 16 May - with Wenger and Gazidis, Van Persie said: "This was a meeting about the club's future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.

He's a piece of shit, remember wenger backed him when he was charged of rape back in 2005. He backed him when he couldn't spent a single season without a long term injury before 2010, and since he left he's always claimed that arsenal never offered him an extension omitting the fact that he didn't want to extend his contract and that in fact "Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.", that quote is from van persie's offical page

RvP was one of my fav players around that time. Not only was he an Arsenal star but he as also playing for theDutch national side, and though I am not Dutch, they were the team I supported ever since 1994 (and watching Bergkamp). When he left it was a huge betrayal but also I understand as the years from 2006 till the end of Wenger's era, were terrible for us.
I don't comment on videos often but I have got to say your videos are awesome
Paddy speak your mind it will clear your head and cure your persistent erectile dysfunction.
RVP going to united really did hurt. That entire season felt like a nightmare. Watching him score spectacular goals for them was heartbreaking. But i understand why he did it. Arsenal were aimless and could not match his ambitions. Still hurts but its the truth.
As arsenla fans we fully deserve where we are now. We have been through almost 2 decades of pain and heartache. Really hope we can win something soon.
Very well put together video. Good job 👍🏻
dude was unstoppable that 2012/13 season. Him lining up for volleys, you knew it was going in
You forgot to mention he is is also the all time top scorer for the Dutch national team, with 50 goals. That list contains players like Cruyff, van Basten, Bergkamp, Kluivert and van Nistelrooij.
He also played a lot more games for the Netherlands than those names, in an era of increasingly pointless international football with stats padding against weak sides (he's not the only one, Lukaku and Rooney were even worse in that area). He scored like 1 goal at World Cup 2006, 1 at Euro 2008, 1 at World Cup 2010 when he was the lead striker in a Dutch team that reached the final and 0 at Euro 2012. Cruyff, van Basten, Bergkamp and Kluivert may have scored less but did so when it mattered.
@@pritapp788 His run at 2014 World Cup was good though, and you couldn't deny his assisting qualities.
@@pritapp788 yeah, you’re right about that. He was shit on almost every major tournament, with maybe the exception of his goals against Ivory Coast in 2006 (free kick) and his goal against Spain in 2014 (header)

"Our club has a terrible habit of selling our best players to our domestic rivals and then watching them win trophies. Although I loved Wenger, I can't forgive him for allowing the sale of RVP to United, Cole to Chelsea, Kolo Toure, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Adebayor to City. Love your videos, man. Couple things though: -He was NEVER offered a new contract @ Arsenal - something he's gone on record to say several times (Never denied by Arsenal) He famously said he'd offer a couple million euros to anyone who could prove he REJECTED an Arsenal contract (via Jake Humphrey's pod). SECONDLY, he said "the little boy inside me was screaming for Man United" when comparing United to presumably his only other choice in the summer of 2012 - Which was Juventus (Hence he spoke to Van Der Sar, who had played at both Juve and Man United). I had an EXCLUSIVE interview with RVP in 2020 (On my channel) and all of this was part of the research. KEEP UP THE AMAZING VIDS!
Why wouldn't Arsenal offer a new contract to their best player?
Do you seriously believe that he was offered contract extensions all those years he spent at hospital
and suddenly once he's injury free Arsenal decided not to give him a new contract?
Why would ANY club not offer their best player a new contract, if for nothing else then to sell him for more later?
You do know that just because someone says something, it doesn't mean it's true?
@@Qlicky That's a rather simple way of looking at things there. Gazidis apparently didn't want to offer him the wages RVP knew he could attract at another club. Hence no offer was made. At the end of the day though, who knows?!
@@SidKohliTV It's a simple way of looking at it because it was a simple situation.
He wanted to leave whether for money or to win trophies (or both). He was just too big of a pussy to actually admit it, so he invented this bullshit story how Arsenal didn't offer him a new contract.
Again, it makes absolutely no sense from a business stand point to let your best player leave for free. And Arsenal is a business after all.
RVP basically wanted his cake and eat it too while not wanting entire Arsenal fanbase to hate his guts.
Wenger stuck with him through his entire injury ridden career and as soon he had an injury free season he stabbed him in the back and left. The least he could have done is actually be honest about it.
But you dont get that from snakes like he is.
He wasn’t gonna sign anyway 🥱 all summer he was doing interviews and flirting with a move away
@@alphomega2459 That's why he was sold in the first place. Not because he wasnt offered a contract or other bullshit RVP would like people to believe, but because he wasn't going to sign it.
Having said that, he had no problems pocketing the wages and signing extensions when he was spending half of each season injured and nobody was interested.
A textbook example of a backstabber.
Watching from Belize central america and I'm a Real Madrid FC fan but I love the EPL and I loved RVP from the moment i see him ⚽✨

At Arsenal, Van Persie was more like Half Persie since he was usually out half of the season due to injury. He left Arsenal to win tropies but he would have won in Arsenal if only he could have stayed healthy in years prior.
Thank you for agreeing for the robbery vs Barcelona
I admire RVP during his time in arsenal so much. What can we do life needs to go on. He get what he wants and deserve that.
He made the best choice for his career, he went from a small club to a bigger club. So respct to RVP for that.
he was also a class player.
Your club is completely in the mud now 😢
The problem is he could've gone to any big club. He chose Arsenals biggest rivals at the time.
There were a few bastards who betrayed Arsenal in that era.
I get WHY they did it (We had very limited transfer budgets for a long time, due to paying off the debts on the new Emirates Stadium, coupled with signings that were not great) but it still pissed everyone off at the time, and they've never been forgiven.
Van Persie did explain, with anger, why he left Arsenal, saying that they didn't offer him any contract.
Honestly, had Arsenal managed to extend the contract, he would have won the league at that same season.
The litany is long really. I mean, so many of them betrayed Wenger, wanted things handed to them. For all the "no mentality" stuff going around, these self-same players were the creatures displaying the lack of mentality.
IMO the best left foot to strike the ball, that too if its a volley then its over for the keeper.
As a man united fan, it was a pleasure ❤ we love you RVP

The fact that Cesc now refers to Arsenal as 'us', but RVP only does this for, and only shows up to watch Manchester United shows to me that RVP's betrayal was bigger. Even compared to Cole (who ended up playing for Chelsea for longer than he was ever at Arsenal, so it makes sense for his loyalties to be there) and Adebayor (who didn't want to leave Arsenal, and then developed real bad blood with Arsenal fans), RVP is snakiest of snakes
He could of joined literally any other team in the world. I was devastated too
@@Kate-ms2mn lol betrayal, when a player goes to another club uit is always " betrayal". Bullshit ofcourse. He just left because he wanted to win trophies and at Arsenal there was no eager of winning. Just as simple as that.
We are talking about football not about war.
He can say whatever he wanted about the club's lack of ambition and whatnot, but he conveniently forgot that he was part of all the troubles we've had by being injured for more often than not. It was the club that stood behind him and backed him up when so many times people have been calling us stupid for hanging onto a player made of glass.
And his thanks? One good season and he's off, joining our rivals. Even then, you know, a simple thanks and acknowledging the club and fans had been good to him would've sufficed, but no. He had to run his mouth the way he did, burning away every conceivable bridges as he went.

At the time when he left Arsenal. I felt hurt and angry. He was the one thing my team still had. However a few years in hindsight. Its a choice of his for him personally that I agree and understand. Arsenal wasnt going to put together a title winning team. The team at the time was just so subpar. I also like to think because of his departure that the management got their act together and started putting together some semblance of a team. We havent won the PL since then, but at least now the team feels much more on the same page. His career also deserved more recognition than it had at that point, at a club level I mean. He was class and absolutely lethal. Had he signed with a more ambitious club earlier Im sure he would have lots more silver to fill his cabinets
I'm only at the start... but I feel like your definately romantasing the "love" Arsenal had for RVP.
The stats tells a slightly different story, but the general opinion isn't that "RVP stuck through 6 seasons of no trophies" but more like "Arsenal stuck with him through 6 years of him never actually being fit to play".
The annoyance Arsenal fans felt was that after sticking with him for all that time, they deserved more then one season. Ultimately its a bit false, because he DID have more then one good season.
I think its kind of amusingly ironic that RVP ended up only getting one good season out of United in the end.
SAF is an absolute legend. After fulfilling RVP's hunger, he then proceeded with karma and gave him a taste of his own medicine. It was all worth it at the end.
yep, the fact fergie just used rvp for one last league title then left makes me slightly happier bout the situation lol
What beautiful story
With a sad happy ending
Against Aston villa, the first goal, he won the match, the second he won the goal of the season, the third he won the Golden boot!!! Legend!!
RVP going to Man Utd a betrayal? Sol Campbell leaving Spurs for Arsenal was an even bigger betrayal. Either way if a player hasn't won a league title an sees the opportunity to join another club in order to so then so be it. It's called having ambition.
Similar things happened in Italy with the divine ponytail Roberto Baggio, from Florence to Juventus, and in France with David Ginola. It is exactly how you said it. They have my respect for that. ^^
All of these mentioned are BOTH ambition and Betrayal. It just comes down to what you value the most. If you can look back in 10 years time and still feel like you made the right decision then fine. But you can never expect the love of your former teams fans when you do them like that.. I think this is where Van Persie has a problem, he is bitter that Arsenal fans don't respect him
