This video may be 9 months old but my Grandma use to make mince pies although in Canada we called them mincemeat tarts. My Grandma also use to make whipped shortbread topped with a candied cherry, or a gumdrop, those little silver candy balls, or coloured course sugar in green and red.

Hello you two! What a delightful Tea Reads again this week. I have a favourite Christmas recipe book from years ago "The Josceline Dimbleby Christmas" by Sainsbury's, it has writing about Christmas traditions as well as recipes amongst which is her orange pastry for mince pies made with icing sugar and you put a teaspoon of full fat cream cheese on the top of the mincemeat before the lid goes on - delicious. One of the most amazing taste combinations I have ever had comes from this little book and that is to stud a rib of beef with smoked oysters (as you would garlic). You can get a second hand copy from Abe Books if any of your viewers were interested. Thank you Donna and Miranda for making our Friday's so special, Teresa ❤️🌲❤️

Oh funnily enough, I think we have that cookbook, Teresa! My Mum loves Josceline Dimbleby, and her book 'Orchards in the Oasis' is a favourite of mine. Have you read it? I'll have to try that cream cheese tip sometime - sounds delicious! Hope you're having a lovely weekend xxx

Miranda this will be a long comment(sorry) ..First of all hello to You and Donna...I enjoyed this video SO MUCH!!!! I tried mince pies (around Thanksgiving)for the first time in my life because of a book I read titled “Tinsel” by Sibeal Pounder... but I didn’t make them I ordered them online (some mini mince pies, I ate them all) maybe I will get brave enough to make my own (maybe).,,,,Miranda this tea reads for me was so different from any other because 🥰🥰💕💕 I read along with Donna...I replayed the video after I gathered up my new Christmas Anthologies..first the excerpt from Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights” in my “ A Literary Christmas” then the poem by John Betjemen “Christmas” in “An English Christmas” by John Julius Norwich it was so wonderful to follow along to Donna reading...now this is where I did myself a disservice by getting “Letters From Father Christmas” on my kindle in November (I just realized November is my favorite buying month 😂) when I read how the letters came about I had to read the book right away along with the audio (my favorite way to read) for J.R.R. Tolkien to write letters each year for Christmas to his children was a concept that was beyond wonderful BUT how dare they offer such a beautiful book on the kindle because silly people like me will get it instead of the physical copy but after seeing you hold up that beautiful book.....well it’s another Christmas book to add☺️🥰) Thank you, Miranda💕

I wanted to thank you for recommending 'Letters from Father Christmas' to me because I read (and listened to the audiobook) and I LOVED it so much! It's one of my new favorite Christmas books. I actually want to listen again once I'm done with my other Christmas audiobook - lol. The sweetest book ever. I also adore 'A City of Bells' and I just finished reading the sequel, 'Sister of the Angels' (a quick and really lovely book!!). I'm also re-reading 'No Holly for Miss Quinn' right now and plan on reading 'Winter in Thrush Green' too. This video did not disappoint and I can't tell you how happy it made me. It was like chatting with friends and I could almost smell your delicious mincemeat pies - they came out wonderful! You both looked amazing (and very festive, as usual) and I love the pattern on your dress, Miranda :D Holiday hugs to both you and your mom! (Hi Donna!) xoxo

I do love your mum’s chilled, make do and mend way of being and she always has such interesting tales to tell 🥰
The readings were lovely, I especially loved your reading of one of Tolkien’s letter from Santa; I bought this book to read to my daughter when she was born 21 years ago last Tuesday, it’s a beautiful book🎅
One of our traditions is to toast the tree once the house has been dressed for Christmas, we’ll be doing this next Saturday with our first mince pie, which I’m making on Friday, can’t wait having seen yours 🤣

Hello Miranda and Donna. I have to tell you that your tea reads are just getting better and better. I loved all of the selections the both of you chose to read. The mince pies looked heavenly. I adore mincemeat, but I am about the only one in my family who does. I have never made actual mince pies as I usually just make either mince filled cookies or holiday mince squares which are wonderful and have oatmeal in them. I used to watch Nigella Lawson on the Cooking Channel and I really enjoyed her program. Sadly, we don't get that channel anymore. I will look up her mince pie recipe though as it looks delicious. I have raved about your channel to my daughter and now she is very much enjoying your videos too. She and her husband have been having great fun making the origami stars. I hope you both have a very nice weekend and stay well. I am still loving my reread of Winter Solstice. Take care.......Crystal.

I'm always amazed by how many excerpts you both are able to recollect and find to share. It is so heartwarming to watch you both reminisce over holiday traditions. Here in the states--or perhaps it was just my mom's interpretation--mince pies were simply apple pies ruined by raisins. The real thing sounds much more delightful. Thank you for another wonderfully charming Friday afternoon and for reminding me of the season's joys and wonder.

I'd never had mince pies, but ordered Walker's mince pies a couple years ago and shared them with family, and we all really enjoyed them. But having watched this, I would like to try making my own. Also, I live in an area with a strong Norwegian heritage and at Christmas there are always lots of Norwegian baked goods for sale. And I just checked with my local bookstore, and they have the "Letters From Father Christmas", so I'm excited to get that! Thank you again for another wonderful video. I so enjoyed it.
