    Another good one (I got from a trumpet player in my big-city’s professional orchestra) is playing scale tones 1-through-5 (and vice versa) and going from forte to piano, in various ranges of the instrument. Teaches tone control across registers (when relevant) and across dynamics; a pretty cool and useful exercise!
    This arpeggio exercise looks like a good one too, I’ll keep it in mind for the next time I practice a horn instrument (since I’m a keyboard player primarily, haha)!

    I always find the high to low jumps, especially octave and greater, the most problematic with not only my students but even myself. Thanks for posting this AMAZING tone exercise!

      Yep, those are really tough. Being able to play each note correctly individually first is most important, then start connecting them slowwwwly!

    Thanks Dave. Im using this for my students. Great work as always ❤

    I feel my tone is getting better from the tips on 1-12-24 video!! I put more mouthpiece in mouth and created a full sound that I did not have before. Also playing soft then loud while watching the tuner was a great idea!!! Now I will practice arpeggioes. Thanks a lot!!

    Thanks Dave for the vid. Could you do open triads next time? I wanna add that to my practicing repertoire🙏🏿.

    I've seen a number of videos from different people including you on articulation. There are some players that play some lines that come out like a machine gun. I just love the sound of it. Trying to figure out if the tongue is on the first note of four on sixteenths or if the whole thing is slurred and the articulation is all in the pads.Any comments on that?

    Thanks for this Dave! I was going to ask if it would make any sense to do this with 7th chords -- so Bb D F A Bb but I not sure it will work out and perhaps too complex!

    • @DavePollack
      @DavePollack  Před 6 měsíci

      Absolutely! It will really work with any intervals - I just wanted to make it as simple as possible, so major triads fit that bill.

    Just an off topic question. On the 'same licks' short video. is Ryan Devlin playing a Conn 'shooting stars' tenor?

    • @DavePollack
      @DavePollack  Před 6 měsíci

      It's actually my Conn 10m (well I've been borrowing from someone else for like 10+ years, but yea) - not quite sure if that's the same thing as a "shooting stars" conn!

    • @coryholland1811
      @coryholland1811 Před 6 měsíci

      Thanks Dave. A 'shooting stars' tenor was a much later model Conn which some say uses the same body tube as the 10M. Not in anyway way in the same league that's for sure. He sounds great on it none the less - maybe convert him from his Selmer. Thanks for the reply.

    I love exercises that kill 2 birds with one stone - great time builder AND way to “own” any arpeggios over time (own= instant association between fingers and ears)

    • @DavePollack
      @DavePollack  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes!! If you can work on multiple things at once without getting overwhelmed, you can be wayy more efficient with your practice time
