My 2 cents...I learned that a master of any subject (especially when ego doesn't get in their way) has the ability to make relatively difficult ideas so simple they seem obvious. There are tons of videos addressing the same subjects as you. However, I've not found one that makes me say most of the time "of course," first time through (and that isn't because I already know it). Just wanted to tell you that, and thank you for making things much clearer and easier.

Wow .. thanks for this video! I gave up a long time ago trying to apply all the heavy jazz "elements" to my playing. I just play pentatonics to everything with a bit of variations. It works for me but I've always worried that approach is not traditional or acceptable. However, the audience has always seemed to appreciate it, so it's just become my thing. Your video validates this approach. THANKS so much .. I'll keep on keeping on!! 👍🎷🎵🎵

Hi Dave. As a pop/funk player, I use the pentatonic scale as a base for all of my solos. I don't worry much about the chord changes, but I do use my ears to guide me as to my note choices within the scale. Also - as you suggested, sometimes it's easier for me to know the major pentatonic even if the key is minor - e.g. F# Major is easier for me to pull up than Eb Minor. However, I think it's important to listen and choose notes (from the scale) that fit the context. As a next step, I recommend adding the blue note as appropriate. And after I am very familiar with the song, then I may add other notes, for variety, and color while always keeping the pentatonic as my main guide. This doesn't work for every song - but certainly for many!

I can't believe I went to the trouble of downloading that's simplistic piece of nonsense just a pentatonic scale and then some c major and a minor chords. What's a waste of time!
