I love the music of Hugo Distler, and am so glad to have found this recording. I remember it well from singing it in a chamber group in college forty years ago….our director introduced us to wonderful works like this by rarely heard composers or works. It was an incredible part of my education!

Sang this in college in a giant cathedral church. One of the most haunting and ethereal experiences of my life.

Thank you for this! Since I've been on choral hiatus due to the plague, I've been looking for choral pieces I'm unfamiliar with on CZcams with scrolling scores. I get to sing along, and keep my sightreading skills sharp. This is quite the work!

An absolutely inspiring piece and performed flawlessly! Fantastic 20th century modern classical music example.

Ernst Häublein: Distler was one of the most important German choral composers of the 20th century - a brilliant and innovative musician.
Unfortunately . like Paul Hinemith - he has almost been fogotten. Performing distler is a unique experienve! By the way: Before Spruch 5 the first speaker
has to say "Untersassen" (servants),not "Unterlassen"

Let’s hope Suzy Klein reignites interest in this composer
