- After Imphal, we visited the town of Ukhrul, a captivating hill station in Manipur, in search of new flavours.
Our gracious host, Ammo from Living Manipur guided us through this fascinating journey to this popular tourist destination that is primarily inhabited by the Tangkhul Naga community.
Today's episode is all about this delightful food trip full of intriguing tales and sights. So do tune in to enjoy this interesting culinary experience.
**Despite the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, we made a conscious yet hard decision to proceed with our food video series from the state which was filmed between 30th Jan and 3rd Feb 2023.
Our intention was to showcase the incredible warmth, love, kindness, camaraderie and enthusiasm we encountered during this immersive visit.
It's essential to acknowledge the complexities the state is going through, but we firmly believe in highlighting the genuine goodness of the people whom we met during this wonderful journey.
Throughout the five-day tour, we encountered a heartwarming display of hospitality, generosity and harmony. We want to reassure that our approach remains sensitive and respectful towards the ordeal being faced by the people of Manipur.**

Interesting episode. My late uncle served with the Punjab Regiment, at Imphal and Kohima in 1944 (World War 2) . I wish I had obtained more information about that time from him.

My late uncle was also posted in Imphal as in the rank of Wing commander in Air force & he was also deployed in Burma. Almost lost his life down there but was fortunate.
He would always quote that the time during British administration was better & same would my father say.
My grandfather was a medic in the Army. He also visited Basra back then.

next time pls experience the usob/utsav cooking of the meeteis; such exquisite arrangement of flowers around dish/plate, on the ground. just amazing. also usob foods, since some meeteis traditionally did not eat meat, only fish. the vishnupuriya meetei community are another unique and lovely subgroup; usob sana/utsav chhana, and whole dry peas boiled with baking soda and tarka with allium hookerii.
i would love to find some seed for allium hookerii! the leaf your host was using with the chicken is eryngium foetidum, also known as culantro in puerto rico, and ban dhania in indian cooking of the west indies.

For those who consider Masala as not healthy, I would like to mention them that every masala is a herb and has medicinal benefits, I respect your choice of food and you should also be respectful towards others
But the moment you put those masalas in hot oil, I think they lose much of their nutritional value.

Its a big misconception in most of the Northeastern states that masalas are not healthy mainly because most of food in these states are not used to it. The spicy taste of the food comes from raja chillies and not masalas, and moreover for most of the people the masalas create havoc to the digestive tract...😊
I never got the impression that they considered masala as unhealthy. I think the healthy part they were considering is that they used little or no oil. It's just that masala is always associated with oil.
For me also i go someplace in Europe and asia but i never got the teast of manipur pineapple.Manipur pineapple is the best
