- In this penultimate episode of our Manipur food series, we went on a brief non veg street food tour across the locality of Khagenpalli in Imphal which was then followed by the making and tasting of two classic Meitei recipes - Tharoi Thongba (snail curry) and kangsoi presented to us by our charming and knowledgeable host cum friend Ammo from Living Manipur.
Khagenpalli had evolved into a food hub dotted with numerous take away shops both big and small selling a variety of non veg dishes.
The lively atmosphere and array of options caters to the locals craving for spicy and zesty stuff. Here we tried a delicious duck curry at Tutu Food Corner and a brilliant grilled chicken at Q Point.
Our eating spree continued with the two traditional Meitei recipes that Ammo presented us at his home. The star of the show was the Tharoi Thongba, a sumptuous snail curry that tantalized our taste buds with its unique flavors. This dish, expertly prepared by Ammo showcased the depth of Manipuri culinary heritage. The key elements of the dish were ngari (fermented fish), yongchak (tree beans), potatoes, loklei, dried red chillies, small dried fish, chives and winged prickly ash leaves (mukthrubi). We had a hard time eating the snail but Ammo came for the rescue by breaking it and taking the meat out. He effortlessly sucked it out of the shell.
Next came a classic Meitei delight known as Kangsoi. This no oil veg dish introduced us to the simple and dominant flavors of Manipuri cuisine that had a lasting impression on our palates.
Throughout this episode, Ammo amicably guided us through the culinary treasures of Manipur.
**Despite the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, we made a conscious yet hard decision to proceed with our food video series from the state which was filmed between 30th Jan and 3rd feb 2023.
Our intention was to showcase the incredible warmth, love, kindness, camaraderie and enthusiasm we encountered during this immersive visit.
It's essential to acknowledge the complexities the state is going through, but we firmly believe in highlighting the genuine goodness of the people whom we met during this wonderful journey.
Throughout the five-day tour, we encountered a heartwarming display of hospitality, generosity and harmony. We want to reassure that our approach remains sensitive and respectful towards the ordeal being faced by the people of Manipur.**

I remember the first time I tried Manipuri food during my hostel days with my Manipuri friends...I was amazed by the taste and the variety....their culture is very rich and beautiful.... being a Rajasthani....I have observed the same richness in food and culture of Manipur.....This is the beauty of India
But illigal migrants kukis want to destroy our motherland
But these days Manipuri culture tradition is stopping being alone or grouping in roam through hilly areas is very dangerous militants from myanmar is all occupied hill areas
i wish manipur series is never ending. Cant wait for the next one!!!
Even in Kerala, people eat snails..we call natha in malayalam..It has similar texture to mussels or kallummakaya..
Even duck is popular meat item here....
Kerala and Manipur has some similar kinds of foods and we even serve foods in banana leaves too during occasional large gathering😊
Even martial arts and boat race
@@Oppenheimerh2732 Yes, that boat race is called Heeyang tanaba.
Sir ek hug banta hai amo Ji ko...He is the one I would like to be my friend..So energetic lifeful
The passion and sincere effort of the host to give the best hospitality is clearly reflected.
Keep it up Sir Amo....
But this video of Snail curry is incomplete without our famous Manipuri phrase, " Charey tengkot than chadre tengkot than".
In bihar, we cook it firstly boil the snail(aaitha) then take out eatable part then put in the gravy and cook into them. This is very sumptuous (even more then mutton) and delicious and in terms of nutrition it plays a great role.
Hope next time you will visit Bihar, i glad to share this recipe with you.
Mr. AMO is doing a very good work promoting Manipuri cusine to main land stream.
My new favourite CZcams channel ❤️
Thank you for another delightful epsisode, really enjoyed watching it.
Living Manipur.. Great👍👍
I have had snails 4/5 times so far. In West Bengal , before cooking of snails, the inside fleshly part are first taken out of the shell and thereafter it is cooked. But I have never seen how the fleshy part are taken out from the shell. As in this case, only fleshy parts are cooked, it must be tasted better for better mix -up with spices and requires no extra effort for eating it. It tastes almost like keema but a little harder than mutton keema. It is taken with chaati or rice. This is very good for health, specially for eyes.
Here we also have stir fry of the snail after its meat is taken out. We boil it first and then poke the meat with a pin or needle
Very humble down to earth
N thank you sir for the effort 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Host is so nice and humble

Nice video sir
Mr. Sapra you're doing amazingly well.. Your content, and the way how you present is excellent..
Die hard fan,
Pulkit :)
You are the only one who is honest about the food and the culture in the food block community.
You remind me of a renowned chef and traveller Anthony bourdain.
u also wanna eat duck curry, love it
khana hai khayega ,, kya hua , so yummy
Ab shadi m bhe SNAIL hone chaheye👍🇮🇳
I like snail kanghou more than cooking snail( Tharoi thongba) . Snail Kanghou(Tharoi kanghou) is boiling the snails first and then fry them with oils , vegetables like mint, chive, potatoes and even with peas etc. Even though people like Tharoi thongba (cooked one) , I don't like it much but like the fried one.
First time I saw Snail🐌🐌🐌 Curry🍛🍛🍛 but it was good😮😮😮
The more u have dishes of Northeast, the more u will be healthy and young😊
Great video...Bhaiya apka chanel ka name delhi food walks kyu hai.? App delhi se ho.?
In Manipur, all the meats taste is very good plus, tastes different from others places /states ..visit again and try all the dishes , meats / vegets,,,super jummy
It’s refreshing to see some pre war Manipur .. thanks Delhi good walks
umda 😃
Snails curry is best curry for drinking.
What you see is all about the indigenous meitei community.
#Save Meitei from Narco-terrorist illegal migrants Kukis.
@@brangsengsingpho 🤣🤣🤣 haothusssss no need to hide ur identity u belong to Nomadic tribes. Name one tribe from North East whom Kukis doesn't have conflict. Kukis have conflict with every tribal community in North East💀 Don't act innocent 💀Crocodile tears
@@brangsengsingphoinnocent my foot. Get the facts correct if you don't know. They're playing religion card and you all are falling for it. You'll only realise when you're met with the same fate as meiteis and in that time it'll be too late for you and india as whole. They're big threat to the country but clever enough to hide themselves as victim.
@@brangsengsingpho bro ur relatives@Kukis were caught by NIA and CBI for killing two meitei students, I think the real monster,"Narco terrorist Kukis" started showing its face. And 4-5 Kukis were caught by Assam and Mizoram police everyday for drugs trafficking. In the end truth will always win.
@@brangsengsingpho oi DAFLA don't poke in someone else business without knowing the actual ground.
For starters, they can use wooden toothpicks to extract the snail out.
I have been watching your show. The flight to Imphal I saw someone like you in yellow jacket. Now i know it was definitely you…Wish I had said hi….
Hi :)
This is what it is ❤️😅 best explaination
Yes if it doesn't hv indian name or scientific name unknown then this is what it is the best ans😂
❤❤❤
The way you kissed the snail😂😆
And you should respect the guy too haha he cracked the snail for u lol... We do crack the snails when we failed to suck and doesn't come out 😆😆
Beer bhi chalti sir. Mzaa aata hai dkhkar
Lovely! I enjoy snail's a lot like in Mascarpone. In Oysters I don't add much except for lime juice or Tabasco sauce. I live near the elbe river. So we get snail's from the uncontaminated sources. Eating certain thing's is but an acquired habit.
I developed mine some 25 year's ago. When I arrived in North Europe. But watching you accepting certain cuisines without any prejudices is very impressive indeed! I've no taboos either related to eating habits.
Being typical is but ignorance.
Visit again Mr Abhinav. I am out of station now but will be there next year. Will expose to more taste.
Upload next episode .. . Eagerly waiting to see utsav wala vedio ..😅😅
Eating duck and snail curry in a day wow. How am I not supposed to feel jealous about these guys. Damn my mouth is already watering I need to cook something tonight 😆
Our place is jakhalabandha (assam)

Kaha hai yeha can I get location?
🤤💙
Nice video sirji. ❤❤❤
😋😋😋😋
First view first comment ❤❤❤
Use with lemon thorns to take out instead of breaking by hand Dada
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I want someone to invite me to manipur :(
Snail is good for eye
Beautiful..the snail part 😂..👍
For the snails, just use toothpick
Hi sir mai bihar se hu
Iyamba eromba sidi neire hai eidi tin tare
One tip if you are finding it hard to suck out the meat part then you can use a toothpick, not a single snail will go to waste.
Kabhi drinks bhi dikhaya karo
It is what it is 😭💙
Sir vedio quality 240 kar dijiyega
Could have just used a needle or a thorn or a sharpened stick to get the snail meat out instead of crushing the whole thing.
All in all it was an awesome video
Beautiful....but host n guest ne thoda jyada laga li lagra😂😂😂
Bahat din ho gaya snail nahi khaya
No one puts fish in chicken . Yes as was shown with liver pate made with u-morok, ngari is surely added. But not in chicken curries or chicken fries..
That chives is called Chinese chives tharoi thongba chaningee wanna eat but i am a vegetarian now because of piles
Drinking while cooking OR cooking while drinking goes hand in hand.. kuch alag maja hai..
Can see emptied b**r cans.. behind chairs
