      I've rewatched this game a bunch of times. Embodies what I love about rugby: a team being ultra cohesive is more important than having 15 superior players.
      I doubt they would have got away with it two weeks in a row, but Japan went in with a game plan and executed it flawlessly against a South African side which actually played very well.

    Agree with the number one spot, a try on fulltime to not only win the game but cause the biggest upset in Rugby history when Japan snatched victory against the Springboks at the death. You should've also included the All Blacks try vs Ireland (2013) after time was up where they held onto the ball for numerous phases to score a length of the field try and needed the conversion to win the game.

      At least Barnes came forward years later when it meant nothing and admitted he cocked up royally for nearly 60 mins of that test. Was very confusing watching the refereeing of that test. It was so astonishingly bad, for so long, it seemed to be not completely real. The French supporters in the bar I was watching it in, in Barcelona, were as dumbfounded as I was at what was going on but, at least it was amusing for them.

  • @edmokmg
    @edmokmg Před rokem +27

    First off, that Ngwenya try still gives goosebumps because I'd never seen anyone in world rugby blitz Habana then (and maybe even now).
    I do have some choice options ahead including:
    Radike Samo almost 50m sprint through the NZ back line was a massive try.
    And the Jason Robinson blitz right through Wales entire midfield for a try by Will Greenwood for England at the 2003 RWC QF (I think) was also awesome.
    Memorable maybe not as much, but also include the one Ma'a Nonu scored I think in the 2011 RWC from a pass from Sonny Bill Williams (who had some great offloads btw)
    Otherwise, very good selections
    Thanks

    Japan vs Boks. Never been kissed by so many Japanese women (and men) in my life.
    Italy v Wales - what made that the best in my mind was that Capuzo could have retained the ball, risked everything and scored in the corner leaving a difficult conversion. BUT he passed inside and the 14 took it closer to the posts. The conversion gave Italy the win. Fantastic thinking.

      Context was that England hammered NZ ending a 20-game unbeaten run which included RWC 2011. It was the All Black's only loss in a 3 year period from Sep 2011-2014.
      Ashton v Aus was a great try but England were at least 50/50 before that game. This one was 80 mins of complete bewilderment at what you're witnessing.
      It later transpired there was a virus in NZ camp so I guess some players would have been a bit post-viral, no less fun at the time though!

      Yes it is. Remember that this was already after the final bell had sounded, and Japan had a forced a penalty and had a chance to opt for 3 easy points right in front of the post to force extra time, or go for the try to seal one of the greatest upsets in sports history. The commentators couldn't even believe they chose to go for the try.

    • @Pmaxsam75
      @Pmaxsam75 Před 2 měsíci

      @@kanajingly8957 I still hugely disagree. I have no problems acknowledging Japan major upsert against a team that was given favorite on paper, or recognising a major accomplishment. This is not what this video is all about, at least in its title. What is an unforgettable try? A try that shows something borderline unhuman, which displays incredible skills, velocity, technique, intelligence, to get in the end, a try that would have been thought impossible to get. It is something out of the ordinary. This is not the case with this try. To get to qualify it of an incredible try, you have to consider the circumstances, the fact that it was overtime, the fact that Japan was the under dog. I don´t dispute any of that. But the try in itself is very average, the kind of try that, if not put back in its context, would never, NEVER, make it to the local news as an incredible try. Again, this try, out of its context, is very average. Leave aside the circumstances and you are left with nothing. Or, change the title of the video to: ´´MAJOR UPSET IN RUGBY HISTORY``. That, I would agree. But look at the other tries in this videos, we do not know (or need to know) the context to conclude that yea, that was an incredible try. In fact, the team that scored could have lost the game, it would still be an incredible try. But not this one. I will repeat that I do not under judge Japan´s major performance, which blew the world, me first. They deserve recognition for what they did, but then again, the title of the video would need to be changed.
