@@quint3ssent1a the most common weapon for them is like a switch, blade or baseball bat or whatever but they do occasionally there like 80% melee 20% pistol and they’re generally 357 magnum‘s 9 mm pistols or 10 mm pistols. SMG‘s are rare.

Well they were able to focus on one deathclaw at a time since the death claw on that stack did not came in four at a time unlike the next thug stacks they did.
There's something incredible in that shot where the veritable wave of Freeside thugs descends down the hill to enter a lethal quadrille with those four or so deathclaws at the quarry's chokepoint.
RNG got nothing to do with anything, 20 thugs might have been armed with better weapons that pass more of the damage threshold than those 50...when you have shitty weapons, that don't do enough damage to even make a dent in enemy's armor it doesn't even matter whether there are hundreds of you or just ten...lol
One person can be equipped with something like Gauss Rifle or something else very highly damaging and clear out the entire Quarry all by himself, than thousands of people all equipped with silenced .22 pistols could ever hope to...

This really does put things into perspective. When you think about it, most wastelanders would be pretty similarly equipped to the Freeside Thugs, if only marginally better. Even singular deathclaws mow down a dozen plus men without breaking a sweat.
it only took the ncr to have 15 guys to kill the alpha deathclaw and clear out a better part of the quarry it took the thugs to have 50+ guys to kill the three deathclaws in the first area
Im not even sure if any of their weapons can get past the deathclaws' DT. Even several dozen focusing on a single deathclaw with 10mm take forever to kill it.

The first fight felt like the adult death claws were waiting to see how the young one would do and as soon as it looked like it would get ganked they all came in to counter gank.
Now if the game made it so that a Deathclaw's attack wasn't limited to one NPC but the whole swing of a claw swipe, the thugs would've stood no change even at 100.
Would be neat to see how many Kings it takes, though I almost hate to ask you to do this to them lol. I assume you are working towards doing this with every faction. Also a Kings vs NCR battle would be cool.

The death claws in Fallout 3 and New Vegas truly were OP, and I loved it. They were nerfed in the HP department on Fallout 4, and maybe in the attack damage department as well. One hit in New Vegas was pretty much instant death. Lol

And yet 5 hours after the courier wipes out every single deathclaw by himself, a freeside thug will think he’s got what it takes to rob you.
The DT of the deathclaws in this scenario is putting in work considering all the low damage guns being used.
